88survivor Posted September 21, 2008 Share Posted September 21, 2008 The "Rio" music video.....how I wish I had a yact. Shoot, I was still a poor lower class five year old in the 80s. I only went to Sesame Street, McDonald days in the 80s, thinking Michael Jackson was the coolest person ever and I can't remember how many times I seen Moonwalker(must been in the hundreds or thousands), watching Saturday cartoons, reading comics from newspapers, every 80s show I could remember(including Charles In Charge), and so many more. That's all......what is ironic for such an 80s based soundtrack is that could have Kim Wilde in a New Wave station knowing that she is not New Wave, but rather British pop. She is pop as pop can get, but I could why they add her. She is daughter of Marty Wilde, a 50s singer, and she is pretty much the originator to start the whole sex appeal trend before Samantha Fox & Sabrina took the stage. Except Kim had a better than those two. Samantha posed topless when she was 16 and Sabrina only remembered for her two jugs, not her music. I remember, they were rivals against one another as to who had the bigger assets, you know. But I disagree there. I don't think Kim Wilde is the originator.....the one that started whole sex image was Debbie Harry of Blondie. Hell, she started the whole thing before those came around in the 80s.
