Aside from what you might think by reading these forums (of which the population demographic leans significantly more toward the middle-school aged immature know-it-all cry baby), GTA IV is an excellent piece of work. It may not be the best game ever (very hard to compare two games from different genres), but it is indeed worthy of the praise it receives, and doesn't deserve the negative attitudes of the underage punks on this site.

I'm 23 years old and enjoy the game very much. I browse these forums as I'm doing my research or homework for college, and the attitudes of many of these so-called "fans" of GTA games grated on my nerves so much that I had to sign up just so I could argue against their pointless ranting.

Anyway, speaking on behalf of the people who actually LIKE the new direction GTA has taken, I'd like to plead with you...

Please,

-No jetpacks

-No aliens

-No go-kart chases through the streets of a ghetto

-No "San Andreas 2010"

San Andreas is an excellent game... but GTA IV is not SA, it's time to move on to NEW things instead of constantly retreading the same old grounds. It was questionable to even go back to Liberty City (and clearly it spawned these ridiculous assumptions that the GTA IV series will just rehash the original 3 cities all over again) but I respect your artistic integrity to complete unfinished business and build Liberty City the way you originally intended to build it, despite the fact that we've already been there twice before.

Whatever choices you make for the next game, I just wanted you guys to know that you still have fans that understand that not every game should be exactly the same - just with a new setting, and that some of us will be fans of the GTA series, especially when you all put forward so much effort into creating a gaming experience unlike any other.

Rock on, Rockstar.

Some people just can't accept the fact that not everyone shares the same disappointment with IV.

A Couple of "GTA Fans" see IV as a game after San Andreas instead of a Next Gen game.

"Next Generation"

GTA is not gonna stop here, they have build a very strong base with IV to continue making more awesome games.

Grand Theft Auto IV, is not exactly how I thought it would turn out, it is better.

The first time I saw trailer 1, I thought: "There goes the fun".

But no, it's still the GTA i like, only getting used to the new setting/graphics/gameplay is a little bit hard.

But hey, it was hard for Rockstar to build this entirely new GTA game wasn't it?

Indeed, Rock on!

People tend to forget than San Andreas was the last of it's kind. Rockstar probably added all of these extra features because they wanted to go out with a bang, test the water, as it where. Now they're started from scratch with GTA IV. Just look at GTA 3, see how it got better and better with each installment after it (Vice City, San Andreas, LCS, VCS)? That's exactly what's going to happen with GTA IV's trilogy.

I strongly disagree with the first post. They've tried and imo failed at making a truly deep and serious GTA story. The story in GTA IV was mediocre at best and they should just stop trying so much for realism and just have some fun, be creative. make it in the future, make jet packs. please.

I agree.

GTA is made for fun, not copying realism. The storyline was OK, I thought. But the new gameplay was annoying. The cop system gets on my nerves all the time and the game has no replay value.

You wrote gangsta, which is lamer. Nothing worse than wiggers. We need an clean their ethnicity out, not people of different races or religions.

Racism is bad, as long as it's not against wiggers.

As for your information, I'm not white (if that's what wiggers supposed to refer to). But I don't want to start talking about race now.

I want the 'gangsta/ghetto' (however you call it in order to avoid being insulted.) again. So what does it have to do with you?

I type properly without acting "gangsta" like the kids you think about, such as:

"ZOMMGZZ; IM GUNNA SHOOTZZ DIS, MA NIGGU, WUTZUP?"

The story was excellent, if you are into that type of story.

Clearly I found the "gangsta" crap from San Andreas to be boring... so that's just a case of different taste, now isn't it? I loved the story line of an illegal immigrant who feels as if his life is pointless, so he comes to America for a chance at getting out of the life he once lived, only to realize that it's the same game in America, and his soul may very well be lost after all. I don't think we've seen the last of Niko - the fact that Bulgarin got away is evidence of that.

GTA is made for fun, not copying realism. The storyline was OK, I thought. But the new gameplay was annoying. The cop system gets on my nerves all the time and the game has no replay value.

Who are you to say what GTA is made for? I think Rockstar are the ones who decide that.

As far as the cop system... you do know that nothing has really changed, right?

In San Andreas, if you had 1 or 2 stars and stayed out of sight long enough,. they went away, didn't they? Same thing here, except you have to leave the search perimeter. If you could get into a Pay'n'Spray without being seen, you were pretty much off the hook - same here. So really, the only change is that you can now SEE where the police are searching, and that in order to end the search you have to leave the perimeter. That's IT. If anything, it's EASIER - so how can it possibly be more annoying than San Andreas, where if you had 3 stars or more, the cops never gave up and always knew right where you were?

Yeah I prefer IV's story any day of the week to SA's. I mean SA's was alright, but it really didn't know what it wanted to be.

I enjoyed the LV portion though, because it centered around the Mafia.

IV's story does somewhat get lost around the middle of the game, but it doesn't sway too far off, but overall I just found Niko coming to America to realise the "American dream" was nothing like Roman had said, and he found out it was just as bad as back home more appealing.

As you said, it's just differences in taste. As for the whole fun/realism fiasco, obvioulsy some people don't find realsim fun, but what about people THAT do? Fun CANNOT be expressed universally.

I believe that GTA IV slipped up when it came to providing players with lots of interesting things to do. Remember how the buzz for GTA III spread? It was the people who had bought the game and then told their friends, "hey, in this game, you can f*** hookers, kill them, and get your money back!" and "you could jack an old lady's car and then run her over with it!" It was this freshness, this emphasis on providing a fun, new experience that had never been seen before, that sold all those copies (although the controversy certainly didn't hurt). In GTA IV, on the other hand, what could you do that hadn't been seen in prior games? Go bowling, play darts, go out on dates.....things that people do in real life. Open worlds are supposed to give players the freedom to do whatever the hell they want, provide unique experiences, and I didn't feel that in IV. GTA has never been about realism - if it were, you wouldn't be able to steal cars and fire rockets into Times Square with such little consequence.

However, IV did do a lot of things right. For one, it provided players with one of the best storylines to come out of a video game since Final Fantasy VII. There were moments where I genuinely felt for the characters - something that I had never even considered in the previous games, which felt like '80s action films in how the plot was secondary to the action. The new physics engine, controls, and gameplay were also a vast improvement over San Andreas, making gun fights and car chases far more engaging than they had been previously. Finally, the attention to detail was astounding. For the first time, it felt as if I was in a real city - shame I couldn't do that much in it. Grand Theft Auto IV, even with its flaws, still sets a new standard for open world titles. For the next game, Rockstar should hold onto, and expand upon, the storytelling and attention to detail that made GTA IV a classic, while injecting the best of San Andreas' over-the-top elements (and perhaps grounding them a bit more in reality, so that they actually seem plausible).

Besides, I think that the main reason why GTA IV was so lacking in things to do was because it was Rockstar's first outing on the current generation of consoles. Most of the time was spent building a new game engine from scratch, and then refining it for what was meant to be the greatest open world title ever. Next time, Rockstar won't have this handicap.

hahaha excellent? hahahahahahaha. If you really think that was excellent obviosuly you have never read a great crime novel, seen masterful shows such as The wire or seen epic movies such as The Godfather, Carlito's Way, Scarface and about 20 other films. The storyline in IV wasn't even mediocre it was just.... there. The charcters were extremely boring and few were hardly fleshed out what so ever.

And in IV the cops also knew where you were at all times magically. Cars would appear out of nowhere on the map and would cahse you ruthlessly

And for christ sake why are these type of threads still popping up? The hate threads have died down considerably so please let's not start with these threads. I don't get this "GTA has never been about realism" stuff. Actually most of the things you can do in GTA can be done in real life. If I wanted to I could f**k a hooker, If I wanted to I could steal a car, If I wanted to I could get a gun, and go on shooting spree. So on, and so on.

I can do all of this in real life, so the "GTA has never been about realism" line kinda contradicts itself.

But what you can do in GTA is restricted realism. Nobody is talking about f*cking hooker when they say GTA has never been about realism. They're talking about being able to do mass rampages killing thousands of people and not getting caught, being able to fly jetpacks, being able to kill FBI and Army agents and etc.. All of that stuff may be possible but the chances would be like 0.0001%. Those elements are fun and GTA has always been more 95% fun and 5% realism not 55% realism 45% fun.

Go to hell, this is a GTA IV FORUM AND WE WILL POST ABOUT GTA IV. If you don't like it than get the FU*K out you fu*king annoying bastard. WHY CAN'T WE SWEAR HERE?!?! THIS IS A GTA BOARD FOR CHRIST SAKE.

Anyway... GTA IV was the first game I've ever played that put me in a moral dilemma. Do I kill this person or that person? Do I kill this person or let him live? Never faced that in a game before, but it's not that we were just presented with these choices to make - I actually cared about the decision I made. I thought about it for a while before I decided. That was unexpected for me and it was the most emotionally charged part of any game I'd ever played, taking over from the end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

Of course, the Microwave Hallway sequence in Metal Gear Solid 4 blows everything out of the water when it comes to emotionally intense sequences.. my God that was quite literally breath taking. I knew it was a game, but I was definitely standing up mashing the button on the controller yelling at Snake to not give up.

I felt ridiculous when I realized what i was doing - but the fact that I did it without realizing it is simply amazing.

umm this isn't a IV forum you f*cking idiot it's the NeXt forum. Also you can't be serious by saying that the weak choice options had you in a moral dilema can you? You only got that option with like 6 people and the outcome wasn't very different either way except maybe you'd get them as a random ped later on.

The choice option has been done 10 times better in other games mainly RPGs but it's funny to me that certain people complained about elements in SA that were RPG based but then they want them back but certain elements in IV are RPG based such as choices but now all of a sudden they don't have a problem with some of those elements even though they are very weak. It will be expanded on no doubt but if you can say you felt like you had a moral choci in IV with that limited choice system go play Bioshock or Mass Effect or something like those games. They had moral and emotional dilemas.

I can still kill thousands of people in GTA IV without getting caught. Infact I reckon it's more fun, because now the peds react like human beings, instead of standing in the line of fire like a dumbsh*t.
