Damo.
An early warning: Fanboys, if you don't like the awards that Yahtzee gave out, don't come here to bitch about him and how much better you think IV is. Spam up the ZP forums if you really must, but stay out of this thread. Also, my lockage rule still applies.
CryptReaperDorian
I claim 1,000th (1,001 including the opening post, but then again it isn't counted) post in this topic! I guess it is the 1,000th reply actually. I've counted, there is 120 vehicles in this game (around the same amount as GTA IV) and there are 42 weapons in this game (a bit more than GTA SA and about three times that of GTA IV). 2008 released great crime sandbox games (like GTA IV and SR2 of course) and I'm really waiting for this year's crime sandbox games (there are supposed to be a lot released this year). CryptReaperDorian
SR2 and GTA 4 have the same amount of vehicles?I don't know it seemed there was alot more in SR2 than gta 4. Actually GTA IV and SR2 both have 121 vehicles. GTA IV has two vehicles that can't be driven but you can get a ride on them (subway and sky tram or whatever people call it) and SR2 has 1 vehicle, the train, that has no transportation use (unless you can surf it, but it can be blown up). Well, GTA IV might have 122 vehicles if you include the window lift. The SR2 strategy guide by Brady Games is missing 7 vehicles that I'm aware of (Gyro Daddy, D-Stroy, Peewee, and the four demolition vehicles). If anybody knows any other vehicles the guide is missing please post what else it's missing. EDIT: This discludes those useless airliners in both games too as they can't be used for travel or be blown up. The ones on the runway in GTA IV can only run you over or you can use ramps to try to jump them. Maybe it's because a lot of the vehicles on GTA IV look a lot alike. Anyway I just started playing this game again after about a month being off it and it's still really good. Still haven't beatn it yet, trying to do it co-op though.
Destroy
Wow, bought the PC version and it runs rather slowly. Even though it has a frame rate limiter set to 31 or so, it doesn't need one cause the frame rate itself is rarely reaches 25fps. I swear this game is using an emulator to run itself, it's that slow all the time. 15fps when driving. Chugging when driving obviously loading things yet only uses 800mb of ram when I check Task Man.. 20-25fps when just running around and minor combat. Serious, this game runs like its using the ENB Series mod. CPU E8500 @ 4GHz 9x445 Graphics 4780x2, no OC, always 19x10res

Cyc2u
Ive been playing SR2 and ive never played SR1. I only play PC games so for these sandbox types ive played Mafia, GTA3, VC, SA and 4. I would say SR2 is a cross between VC and SA. And its extremely addicting and fun. Its everything GTA 4 shouldve been. After the story, i put GTA4 away. Shooting pigeons, bowling, darts, that aggravating phone with its buttons all tied into the driving arrow keys, omg what a mess. The city looked nice, but all wasted space, you cant even enter anything. Not even buildings you did missions in earlier. Theres like no reason to want to hit 100% since theres no reward except you can buy more ammo that goes away when you shut off the game. GTA 4 was a huge letdown. Ill never know how it got such high ratings. I guess people like bowling, darts, watching TV in a game, and things like that. hmm. SR2 has something to do on almost every corner. The whole city is wide open from the start. Loads of buildings can be entered. You can buy homes, docks for boats, a hangar for planes, you have a endless garage!! Not "you may park only 2 vehicles here, then 2 way over there" crap. Every part of a vehicle can be colored and modded. Your clothes can be colored however you want and you can wear them however you want from your closet instead of having to buy, say, another hat that faces a different way. You can have your toon look however you want and talk how you want. Mine looks like Tommy Vercetti with almost the same suit he wore. Gangs can be customized for their colors, what cars they drive, overall look (i got 80s style), signs, choose your tag, even what station they listen to so i got them on the 80s music channel. Its like a new Vice City lol. They can copy GTA, or Mafia, or whoever, all they want. Despite the outdated graphics and bad port, (better than 4s port on my machine but could be different for others) ll definitely pick up a SR3 if it comes to PC in the future. BigNekkidSnake
That and you never have to hear "CAZAN IT IZ YOR CAZAN WANT TO GO BOWL!?" Actually I have been playing IV a bit this past 2 weeks but I still prefer SR2. I don't see why everyone says the graphics are horrible in SR2 I mean seriously does everyone have Standard Def TVs. I mean IV has all kinds of graphic filters and shaders that make sh*t shiny and reflective thats why it looks like that and SR2 doesn't, The textures themselves are not much different in quality. Anyway I'm STILL f*cking stuck at 92% because I can't pull myself away from throwing old ladies infront of cars and such to actually make myself do the races, find collectibles or finish up the Heli assault or that one where your on fire on a ATV. SaintJimmy
I've finished SR2. What do you all suggest I do now? It seems to be getting old already. What are the 'extra' missions? I noticed an 'extra' category on the Newspaper clippings.
Jay
I've finished SR2. What do you all suggest I do now? It seems to be getting old already. What are the 'extra' missions? I noticed an 'extra' category on the Newspaper clippings. On the third floor of the Stillwater police department building (the one where you break in to hack into the traffic cameras) there are three mission markers within the detective branch where you listen to wire taps between Dex, Troy and Julius. You then go into Troy's office to get Julius' file and Dex's phone number. Ring Dex and an Ultor marker appears at the old church and you play a mission with Julius which is similar to one that was in the first Saints Row. It just sort of ties the two games together, it is called 'Revelation'. edit: something somewhat interesting: Friday, January 16, 2009sr2 kicks the sh*t out of gta4 Tagged as: Rant idk, but I really love being able to throw bums into their shanties so I can create a sex palace underground instead of pondering the psychological and mental effects of maybe or maybe not executing a character from my tormented and war-torn past because he sold out my buddies and me in a situation more dire and merciless than the one I am in now, for less than what I am being paid now, for doing exactly the same thing. Wait, did that cloud of pixels call me a hypocrite? *shoot* In any case, I love being able to choose how large my characters' breasts are, whether she will have mime makeup, or be dressed as a hotdog, or whether she (or he) should go for a tube top of formal dress when embarking on a mission to kill literally dozens of either; a) Asians; b) Darkies or; c) huge f*ckoff freakshows with loads of tattoos. That's what freedom gives you. I ended up leaving my character rather bland. Default facial settings with megamuscles and a haircut that looks a lot like mine, a cockney accent for kicks and silk pants. I was a bit cut that they wouldn't let me make him look just like my SR1 character with that pretty awesome fauxhawk. The whole bit was certainly something I relish more than choosing what shoes and suit compliment a dirty, unshaven, hate-filled migrant in a world just as wacky (and by extension, completely bipolar) as the previous GTAs. SR2 can be accused of dancing either side of the gritty/wacky train tracks as well. The scene where you begrudgingly kill one of your lieutenants like a dog after sustaining massive injuries at the hands of one of the aforementioned huge f*ckoff freakshows is stark in comparison to an otherwise unequivocally hilarious game. Took me off guard. Literally seconds into the game I stopped giving two sh*ts about the physics or the graphics being sub par. I love pressing the handbrake at full speed and taking a corner perfectly. I love crashing into a bridge on a bike and having my character lifelessly fall into the ocean. I love then being able to press one single button to get out of the water. I also like how SR2 gives you the option to use exactly the same controls as in GTA4. That's right, the one feature I loved to bits about GTA was ganked by SR2, effectively making it hot piss from all angles. I finished the storyline pretty damn quick because I'm a videogay and don't really like being challenged (read: 'casual') yet I still found myself swearing at the telly a lot, but I'm beginning to think that is just me. Also love: - the 'Newman' mail car. - the 'Compensator' truck which is understandably massive - unlimited vehicle storage (which was useless as I used the same tricked out Bezier allthetime) - owning stores, cribs and all that San Andreas-y sh*t - being able to customise those cribs, and even your gang - 6 different voice tracks allowing for different genders/races for the protagonist - driving around firing sh*t on peoples houses and pirate ships - motorbikes - Old Stilwater. Fantastic - that 'Revelation' mission Edited January 15, 2009 by Jay
okei
I think people in this topic should forget that GTA ever existed, then we wouldn't have to compare SR2 to GTA games and call it a clone. BTW: Saints Row 2 is ace!

The game's only like 15 dollars now and the story has more depth then SR2 so I'd say go for it.

I swear they didn't even test the tow truck diversion as it is f*cking BROKEN. One way to do it is in Co-op is to get your friend to jack the car that needs towing and follow you back to the garage then you attach it and drive into the marker OR Put the difficulty on easy and give your truck all the upgrades.
