sgt.slaughter
one reason i think gta 4 is unrealistic is...HOW DOES A CITY CHANGE SO MUCH IN JUST 7 YEARS?!7 YEARS!HOW I TELL YOU,HOW!?
dr.whiz
and nothing beats that scene in one of the trailers where he says "Well... Since you put ita thata way...I'm in!" Which is precisely the problem: that was a fairly unfunny scene, yet still nothing beats it. i agree. obviously gta iv is more realistic. what kind of question is that? what's more realistic, gta iv or pong? as for which game is better, i personally think vice city was the best, then san andreas, then gta iv. at the time playing them of course. my problem with gta iv is kind of what dude i quoted said. it's not funny in the same sense, and it feels weird playing a guy who's trying to be nice and "get away from all the bad things". in san andreas you were basically a gangster so goin around town shooting cops made sense. and that alone plays a huge role in the game i think, making the off mission stuff as interesting as possible to maximize the fun which is not the case for gta iv. you quickly get tired of bowling or drinking (and driving around picking people up for that matter). in san andreas you could just go out and take claim some turf, mod a car, buy houses, all that roleplaying stuff which is basically GONE in gta iv. the only thing that saves gta iv from being just an avarage game is the multiplayer. although i still think the multiplayer needs some work. something's off. no cars, areas are too big and you basically end up just running a marathon with a gun chasing weapons. i really hope they'll return to the more roleplaying route on the next gta combined with the graphics of this and multiplayer. Turdist
IV is real-looking, but also feels real (not fun) San andreas was awsome. More to do and also alot more fun.
infamyice
Yeah IV out-scores SA graphically. But until IV is playable on PC from beginning to end, SA is more realistic (Why? Cause it was playable from beginning to the end - simple).

That engine is amazing tbh, never seen anything like it.. Half life 2 comes close but still not very close And I'm thinking, the next gta is gonna be like SA(costumizing char, bigger city or more then 1 city, etc..) with those gfx and that engine... Think about it, gonna be freaking amazing dude!!

Officer_Dufus
I vote for GTA4 being more realistic over SA. It shouldn't even be a question, personally.
dr.whiz
I vote for GTA4 being more realistic over SA. It shouldn't even be a question, personally. yeah i don't think the op considered what the definition of realistic really is since a non-fantasy type game would obviously be moving towards more realistic for every release, ESPECIALLY when comparing games within a series. so yeah, the question doesn't even make sense. Lioshenka
Sa is pretty realistic to me. haven't played 4 yet, but am pretty sure it is not as realistic as SA. Tyhey left out planes, ambulance missions etc so SA is better in that respect. Edited December 10, 2008 by ˸øåíüêà
Rachinator
Realism... lets define it shall we... "interest in or concern for the actual or real, as distinguished from the abstract, speculative, etc." I do not think that any GTA game is realistic as we know it... none of us can fly a helicopter, none of us can murder people and get away with it by hiding in an alley, none of us can steal a car and watch the owner fight back once and then just give up. GTA games have never been pinnacles in realism as their games about crime and violence, but then again all games aren't realistic except the sims. If you consider it, there is no way that in the world of crime a lowlife from the ghettos of "Los Santos" which is basically L.A as we all know, can leave the city, meet a drug dealing hippie whos paranoid of aliens and 'the man', operate a car modding garage, steal a VTOL Fighter, operate a jetpack, gain a share in a Triad controlled casino, and then come back at the end of the day to defeat the bad guy. San Andreas' storyline and gameplay will NEVER be considered realistic in the crime scene. GTAIV and GTAIII are the most realistic GTA games by far, criminals who work their way up the chain of criminal bosses by preforming illegal acts for each employer. GTAIV is about an immigrant who wants to live the american dream with his cousin. GTAIII is about a guy wanting revenge. While GTA has the aspects that make any game unrealistic, alot of them are realistic, say accessing a police computer from a car and checking records. People who are looking for plain mindless fun play GTASA but for people who want a deep meaningful storyline, caked in fun again, play GTAIV (It took me forever to decide between deal or revenge). There you have it SA cant be honestly defined as real because you need to base it around the character. If the game was about a millionare impulsive spender then you could say it was lol... but a ghetto guy wanting to do nothing in particular except get revenge on a betrayer... no. flyer2359
GTAIV is a lot more realistic than SA because of the new physics engine which allows the processor to make on the fly physics and nothing will look exactly the same way twice + the handling in the cars is a lot more realistic and graphics look awesome

dafour
GTA4 offc. SA its engine was so boring and unrealistic (bike vs car 1-0) at a time they really needed a new one. Imo ,San Andreas on the new euphoria engine would be sick!
lh1
of course it's GTA IV.When i am playing GTA IV, i feel like the city is just like realife, but in SA i'm not...i just feel the cities is too cartony and unrealistic when compare to GTAIV. dr.whiz
i felt more like i was in california for real when playing san andreas than i feel like being in new york when playing gta iv. even though they spent all these resources on making the city feel alive and ny'ish in gta iv, san andreas just felt more accurate to the feeling of being in california i think. but maybe that's got to with that i think cali is the best place on earth or that i feel like california has more distinguised characteristics than ny (saying that even though ny is ny, the city feeling is still very similar to any us east coast city in the sense of trashy, rainy and narrow streets). iBall.
GTA IV of course . Just looks like they only tested it on one rig... But out of consoles version again of course GTA IV xD. I loved SA but IV is just much better...
(r)Evolution
I'd say IV overall, but car handling feels kinda arcadish in IV... but in the end both games are very unrealistic and it's good that way. Too much realism usually makes the games super-non-fun for me
