GTAdedan
I never liked the "theme" in SA, the storyline sucks as well. now I don't know IV that good yet but I'm sure i'm gonna enjoy it much better than SA. I actually had SA only for mods.
Mr.Ruthless
I haven't played GTA IV, but I can bet my credit card that GTA IV is more realistic. I mean c'mon - in SA you had to break into a military base and steal a jetpack.
Death_Blade
I can't believe someone was stupid enough to actually ask this question........ Are you blind?? Open your eyes dude, 4 has more than SA will ever have.
nikothegrate
its obvious gta 4 is better, its still fun to just run around shoot ppl and stuff because how good it looks. But I dont know why euphoria is so grate? its good its smart, half life 2's physics were also amazing even tho its only ragdolls. the one thing I dont like in the in the gta 4 physics is if ur walking and a car taps u, niko crumbles to the ground. and when u jump off a building or something u start to fall in this fetal position kicking and screaming, but its better then the gta sa 3 second falling animation loop where he just runs in the air and says something stupid like "I hate gravity" (skydiving was good)
RedEnd
they are different games, still, some say SA more realistic, i agree, and some say IV more realistic, i agree too in SA you can take a haircut, what you cant done in IV its only an example i readed somewhere, dont blame me if this isnt true still, they are both great games, and both of them have advantage and disadvantage over each other, i will see who is better right when i get my copy
Bullet_Chris
I haven't played IV, but I liked what I got in San Andreas. And if you're talking about realism from the graphics point of view, then IV surely scores ahead of SA in that department. GTA IV is more realistic in graphics, movement, fighting, driving etc.Not only graphics!
AVVvU
The unrealistic respawing traffic pissed me off in gta sa: you drive; you look ahead = no traffic, you look behind a mircosecond = no traffic, you look ahead again ... BAMMM.. CRAsh! Why? A low speeding vehicle has just respawned in front of your nose. Or the same if you want to cross a street: you look right = no traffic, you look left = no traffic, you look ahead = no traffic, you starting to cross the street ..... BAMMM! A car rushed into you right side. And the same with the policemen, gang-members, peds etcetera: you look at one point = nothing, you look at another point = nothing, you look again at the first point: suddenly there are peds, policemen what ever. Thats so unrealistic and sick. In this regard i hope gta iv will be build different. If not i dont buy it. Edited August 25, 2008 by AVVvU
nikothegrate
pple wine ohhh gta sa had more things to do then gta 4, thats right but if ur real fans u would know that R* is saving those things for the next gta. this gta was just a test the basic ingredients in the "next gen" gta's. YoungGun
I don't know why they couldn't leave a parachute in GTA IV. Thats perfectly realistic.. But I wounder if the roads will be as empty in IV as they are in SA. Never seem to get more then to many cars on screen in SA. I wish there were a lot more cars and even peds in SA. Specialty more cars on freeways that didnt travel so damn slow.
TruXter
Dunno, I have not read any, not one single spoiler yet. I have no idea what's ahead. I did watch some newb brat play the console version before release date. But come on, wonky steering is hardly going to show me anything. And I shut it down when he was on missions. I just looked for some features that I was hoping where in it. Swimming, garbage all over, rag doll.
CryptReaperDorian
GTA IV is mostly only more realistic than SA in the graphics, physics, and handling of vehicles and probably weapons. But GTA SA is way more realistic feature wise. Here is a breakdown.: -It is more realistic to have haircuts than not to (even though approach wasn't too realistic as going from bald to a big bushy afro, but it is still more realistic than not having haircuts). -It is more realistic to be able to mod vehicles than not being able to. -It is more realistic to have a jetpack than not to (even though the approach again isn't realistic as the longest a jetpack ever flew was like 32-34 seconds but still not in even one GTA does any vehicle run out of fuel only the RC Baron in Zero's mission is the only time I can think of). -It is more realistic to have a monster truck and weird vehicles in SA than not to have them as they still exist even though they might be unusual for the setting of the enviroment. -It is more realistic to gain fat and muscle even though the approach again is not too realistic as CJ gains fat and muscle quicker than real life. -It is more realistic to parachute than not being able to parachute. There is probably quite more SA but I can't of think of any more right now. I may be back to edit my post if I think of more. EDIT: I know that GTA IV is going to be a ground-up game like GTA III to GTA SA but this is only comparing the two games (GTA SA and GTA IV) and not next installments. nikothegrate
can u get drunk in gta sa? douse it show the prostitute and u doing it in the car? can u play a good multilayer match? (not as good and its a mod) can u go on the computer? can u call 911? can u roll once u land after jumping of something? can u walk around looking for clothes in the store or do u go in a changing room and wait like an hour for him to get ready? do u have to wait every time u enter an interior? can u hang out with somebody? (ie roman) are the physics good? are the graphics good? is the story good? is the character(s) good? do u go flying through the windshield when u crash? can pedestrians change their clothes and look different? can u rob shops? there is probably more, but I'm just saying just cause gta sa is so grate it dousent mean its better then gta 4. and like I said the next gta will have more "things to do" cause R* wants you to buy their new game. And u should be comparing GTA3 to GTA SA. think about it if GTA4 is just like when GTA3 came out in 3D then the next gta is gona have 10x the thing gta sa. mkey82
I cant resist. No, but this was overseen as there was the "drunk driving" feature (at leas in VC). No, and it shouldn't. Yes No, but it pretty much sucks in IV. The only somewhat nice in-game internet I have seen is in Front Mission 3 on PSX No No You can walk around the store and CJ at least changes his clothes, instead of clothes appearing on him magically Yes, but at least there are more interiors. Yes, those stupid dates with girlfriends (ie Daniele) No. Was the PS2 as a lead console capable of anything more then years old engine? No. Ditto Yes Yes No. Should one survive flying through the windshield and splattering over asphalt/wall? No. No. No. Yo an rob dozens f home, though Can you in IV... Play most missions the way you want or are they hard coded? Go to a transfender and have a bit of fun modifying your vehicle? Enjoy really good music? Buy some nice estates all over the place? Fly a plane? Use a parachute? Use stealth to move around a and have a bit more mission variety? Use a silenced pistol like a real pro killer? Enjoy a countryside ride and escape from everyday big town traffic? Does the story actually make sense (ie with those disappearing characters)? I'm not saying SA is better then IV. They both have their strong points and people will choose their favorite. And please, comparing GTA IV with GTA 3 just doesn't make any sense. Think about it this way, if IV would beat SA in each an every aspect (ie better music, story, features as well as graphics) would you still insist on comparing it with 3? Like "Final Interveiw" you can either stealth attack i.e use a knife, and not attract attention, or chose to the hard way, and have a fire fight with the cops. -No, but I would rather the pre-modified cars. The car mods in SA were mainly cosmetic, and most of the time you would lose the car anyway. Yep $10,000 pissed away for nothing. -I didn't like the music in IV at first, but it's actually growing on me now. -Why buy 10 places with virtually the same interior *cough* SA *cough*? They're only good for saving anyway. Nothing wrong with the pre-set safehouses . -No, but I reckon the reason you can't is because the physics probably would've messed up. - I much prefer jumping off buildings, and seeing all the different ways Niko can die. Parachuting gets boring after a while when it's the same animation over, and over. - I thought this was GTA, not Splinter Cell or MGS? I mean yeah it was a nice feature, but I would rather just f**king kill them instead of sneaking around. -Similar to above. I don't care if the cops or enemies can hear shots being fired or not, I just want them dead. - No, but I've found a nice alternative in North Alderney. The cliffside, and beach near the old casino is perfect from escaping big town traffic. -Makes just as much sense as a street thug suddenly knowing how to steal government equipment, and pull off casinos heists hey?. And please don't respond with "because this is a IV forum." I know that's all the SA sides fault but... why do they get banned while these who insult anti-IVums get no punishment? You can aways brainwash urself to think whatever but, Gta 4 with out a doubt is obviously better (newer). Gta 3 is my favorite, b/c its nostalgic and it brings me back its like watching the godfather. yeah it cant compare with gta sa but 4 some reason i like it more. you say you shoulden't see the prostitute and Niko do it? But its appropriate to to the f*cking head of an old lady. you say its unrealistic to go through a windshield and survive? some people have. and u don't survive all the time. But let me ask u, in gta sa is it realistic once u have finished the game and u have full health to go on the tallest building in the game jump off and survive? yeah as long as u have full health and its not an air craft! you say cj's clothes don't appear magically? if u have a camera hack u can go inside the changing room and see that they do! (and in gta sa they don't show u any preview of the clothes u want. So u need to wait hours for cj to change.) Enjoy really good music? are u joking me i like gta 4's soundtrack the best. yeah gta sa has realy good classics but gta 4 is still better. Hodgey.
I would go with IV by a mile for a few reasons. 1. Graphics 2. Gameplay 3. Storyline 4. Niko Bellic 5. Clothing and Housing etc. 6. Size of the city is just right 7. Side Missions 8. Realism There are a few more points but i cant think of them right now, overall i just see IV as ahuge step forward for the GTA series. Gone is the kiddy crap that was in SA, prime example JETPACKS. Dont get me wrong SA is a decent game but IV brings something new to the series and not just the same old storyline layout and stuff. Yes R* could of just put out another game that was very similar to SA and VC but with better graphics but they didnt, they decided to change when alot of people didnt want them to. GTA_Godfather
I don't really want to say much about IV, because I can't. I only saw a few non-mission videos when it first came out (obviously, not much to gather from a graphical/sound perspective). I don't see why posters say it's more realistic. Because they removed certain features? I think that's more about making room for others: phones, GTA internet, improved and more serious dialog, euphoria, etc. I would say (from what I've seen and heard) it's less OVER-THE-TOP, but not more realistic. BTW, the Euphoria animations look better (less canned) than before, but it still looks very "rag doll" to me. And, from what I heard, not THAT realistic. Niko can be tossed around like a rag doll and that he stumbles awkwardly over stuff he shouldn't sometimes. To me, realistic is Mafia. It's on a whole other realm of realism. The animations were all canned, but remember that was back in 2002, eons ago. I can't wait to be reacquainted with that realism in Mafia 2. It's much more engaging when you don't have unlimited ammo, it takes varying amounts of time to change clips/magazines, and weapons are much more nuanced in terms of power, range, aim, etc. It wasn't just the weapons. It was the cars, AI, and everything. Anyway, I'm looking forward to GTA IV and seeing for myself how good/realistic it will be. I enjoyed the way III and VC played on the PC. In some respects they were better than SA. My only concern really is the fun-factor (I don't expect perfection in the graphics department); however, Charlie said the missions were super easy. It's not like they were that hard before, but if they are easier than that...well... Secondly, a convincing storyline with convincing characters is a must. Not that hard, right? Though PC gamers like me expect superior graphics, modding ability, better controls, etc., it comes down to those other key qualities - the aspects of the game that don't change in the porting. The cliffside, and beach near the old casino is perfect from escaping big town traffic. -Makes just as much sense as a street thug suddenly knowing how to steal government equipment, and pull off casinos heists hey?. -You missed my point. Missions in SA are a lot more varied and a lot more loose. IV doesn't have this and those decisions are (IMO) not well done. Firstly, I don't care that much about characters I'm wasting and secondly, they could have done it a bit more seamlessly. In some games you are not even aware you are making a decision (Blade Runner). That would be a great approach but too much work for R* I guess. We can say all we want, but in this segment SA kicks IV ass. You may like it better this way or the other way, but previous GTA's had this. IV doesn't. -Car mods were an option. If you wanted to, you could skip it (only one mission required you to mod your car, that is you were required to get into the garage). 10000$ lost? So what? -Buying safehouses was fun for me. And guess what? It was optional. The interiors repeated themselves (not to the extent you are suggesting) but that was only because R* couldn't be arsed to make different ones. Besides, I liked buying them, not living there. -I just plain don't like it the music in IV. Annoying music for me is like going to a dentist. I just can't grow into loving it -I choose the parachute. It gives you variety, stuff to do when bored AND it was OPTIONAL. -This is GTA and sneaking was poorly done, only to accommodate some missions and to offer some VARIETY. If you wanted you could just push through and kill everyone the way you wanted. Once again, optional. You don0t have that option in IV. -This was more a look thing. Not that useful, but stylish to get a suit and a silenced pistol. Almost like a pro killer. Once again, optional. I also want people dead in GTA and I loved the variety previous GTA's offered. -Each to their own -SA mission were structured properly, there was a couple of "emotional" moments and there were a lot characters that I really liked, as there were a lot of other characters I really wanted dead. There were no disappearing characters, everything is connected. There are no stupid themes, like Niko repeatedly saying "I need the money", while he has half a million in the bank. Or when Roman has gambling debts, Niko has the dosh, but he can't help him out. Or that "rags to better rags" fiasco. There are no such things in SA not in any previous GTA. This is what I meant about "making sense". SA story was over the top and it wasn't realistic, but guess what? I played it over and over again and had a lot of fun. My only concern really is the fun-factor (I don't expect perfection in the graphics department); however, Charlie said the missions were super easy. It's not like they were that hard before, but if they are easier than that...well... Secondly, a convincing storyline with convincing characters is a must. Not that hard, right? Prepare to be surprised on 18/21 November. You are one of those funny people that make little to no sense. you say its unrealistic to go through a windshield and survive? some people have. and u don't survive all the time. But let me ask u, in gta sa is it realistic once u have finished the game and u have full health to go on the tallest building in the game jump off and survive? yeah as long as u have full health and its not an air craft! Yeah, you don't survive if you're low on health. Where did I say SA was realistic? It definitelly isn't and it even doesn't pose as a realistic game. IV isn't also, but there are a lot of people that just keep repeating it, so it must be true. you say cj's clothes don't appear magically? if u have a camera hack u can go inside the changing room and see that they do! You don't get it. What I meant was, when CJ goes in the wardrobe he *virtually* gets dressed, so you don't see the clothes appear on him. Of course that CJ will not put the clothes on himself via some animation when we are not looking. gta sa has realy good classics but gta 4 is still better. No. Not even an IMO, just plain no. Keep in mind GTA IV is running on a new engine and a better system. Just for the record, anyone who compares GTA IV to any of the old 3D GTA games in terms of graphics or physics is an idiot.
