why would that hold us back???Afaik RAM and VRAM work with each other....so as long as you have enough RAM...Video RAM ain't a problem...or im a horribly wrong

You are horribly wrong biggrin.gif

It's all about access speed. The GPU has a lot of bandwidth on disposal when communicating with video ram. For example, 4780 has 115.20 GB/s VRAM access speed. With integrated graphics this is not the case, because the GPU is limited with it's access speed to shared system memory. For instance, faster DDR2 modules will go up to 8GB/s or similar.

well i just hope that it will work.....i dont know why i always thought that VRAM and RAM work with each other...ah well as long as im able to run crysis i think ill be able to handle GTA IV on highest details.......right? mercie_blink.gif

Yes. IMO if you can run Crysis on medium you should be able to max out GTA IV (that is if they port it decently enough).

ADD: the amount of VRAM actually needed depends on the graphics card possibilities. That is, you can have 2 GB of VRAM, but what's the use if GPU can't process amount of pixels large enough to effectively use those 2 GB.

i seriously hope 512 megs of RAM is enough  sad.gif

That was the recommended memory for San Andreas, so I doubt it.

The official recommended memory for GTA: SA was anything above 384MB RAM. Refer to the Read me file.

Ok, I wasn't sure so I guessed.

will it run on this:

2 GB ram

160GB HDD

1.73GHz

384MB graphics X3100

Vista

I think you'll have upgrade your CPU.

wats the minimum CPU that it will run on?

If you got a dual core 1.73GHz you don't have to upgrade your CPU. But if it's only single core, you definitely have to.

its dual core.

so itll run? at least on the lowest resolution?

Count it yourself. I'm a bit noob on this but it should be like this: 2x1.73 GHz if it's dual core, so you have uh.... 3.46 GHz processor speed total. Yeah, I think you'll play it at Mid. With 1024x768 probably you'll get 35~40 fps or something. I dunno. moto_whistle.gif

You can't just multiply the core speed by the amount of cores you have with dual, tri or quad core CPU's. It doesn't work like that. However having more cores does help because diferent apps will run on different cores and so it speads the load out. Programs that u e multithreading however can use more than one core and so they utilise many cores and so this effectivly speads itself out and not using as much prower from just one core so multicores help. I wish you could multiply because then I would have a 12.8ghz CPU..

It depends on the whole system to how well it will run but looking from your specs it looks as though your graphics aren't too good, intel onboard. Are you using a laptop macorules94??? However GTAIV I can't imagine will use much resources so you will be able to play it on mid settings as long as your resolution isn't too large...

BTW, It is really easy to fill 1.5TB as I have 300GB or games and then 450GB of normal films and then alot of TV shows which aren't shown over here plus alot of other random things, like tri-booting..

IMO GTA IV will run on single core processor. Other console ports make use of single core processors without any problems so I don't see why will GTA IV be any different. As sure as hell there will not be any extra effects just for the PC version.

To make proper use of multi core CPU the application must be coded in proper way. Today most games do use the dual core processors efficiently, but quad cores support still lags behind. Thusly, games still have to gain performance on quad core processors.

When speaking of resolutions, CPU takes the back seat and lets GPU handle things, so it becomes the matter of how good your graphic card is.

You most probably have integrated graphics on your laptop. So probably that VRAM is actually shared system RAM. That makes laptops and other PC's with MOBO's with integrated graphics not very good gaming machines. It may run, but it most probably will not look that good.

We seem to be veering away from the intended reason for this thread. Please people let's stay on topic, this thread is for people to show off the PC gear that they will be playing GTA 4 on.

If you have any questions regarding requirements or whether your PC will run the game can you use the appropiate thread here :-

It depends on what you have to work with, but in general the cheapest components are the most expensive ones.
