i seriously hope 512 megs of RAM is enough sad.gif

That was the recommended memory for San Andreas, so I doubt it.

I don't really know what you mean with a "setup". But these are my specs:

Windows XP Professional SP2

AMD Athlon 64 Duo-Core 6000+ 3.0GHz

Kingston DDR2 2GB

Asus GeForce 8800GS 384MB

Seagate Barracuda 250GB Sata2 7200 rpm

These days you need at LEAST 2gb on XP for nice framerates and quick loading.

4gb for Vista. *spits on floor*

I'd expect 512mb to be teh minimum, as with other recent games.

But for anyone that DOES have 512mb of RAM, even another 512mb will make a HUGE difference in performance. It's about the cheapest and easiest was to boost performance.

Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

4GB of RAM

XFX 8800GT 512MB

I'm quite sure I don't have any problems running GTA IV.

I just upgraded.

am2 5600+ 2.9g

2gigs pc 6400 (max is 16 on this board, but nah I'm poor)

EVGA gforce 9500 gt 512 mb

on xp 64 , all drivers supported. It's amazing.

So far all is pretty dang good.

I can actually finally play san andreas at full settings

without a hitch.

Found weird stuff in vice city I have never seen.

There are actually signs in vice city by the road that say "no standing"

For some reason people keep wanting to stand by them.

There is one in front of the parking area behind club malibu.

weirdest thing..

The official recommended memory for GTA: SA was anything above 384MB RAM. Refer to the Read me file.

512 MB RAM will make GTA IV loads like an hour or more sarcasm.gif

Xbox360 has 512 RAM TOTAL, while PC has also video card memory. sarcasm.gif

Well, in 360 the RAM IMO doesn't do anything except running the game... while in PC you also have Windows default apps running in the background... If you got XP maybe as much as 300 MB RAM will be used when it's idle. So, I think GTA IV will require at least 1 GB to load smoothly

why would that hold us back???Afaik RAM and VRAM work with each other....so as long as you have enough RAM...Video RAM ain't a problem...or im a horribly wrong

You are horribly wrong biggrin.gif

It's all about access speed. The GPU has a lot of bandwidth on disposal when communicating with video ram. For example, 4780 has 115.20 GB/s VRAM access speed. With integrated graphics this is not the case, because the GPU is limited with it's access speed to shared system memory. For instance, faster DDR2 modules will go up to 8GB/s or similar.

You mostly need larger amounts of Video RAM for anti-aliasing, high resolutions, and large or many textures.

If you want to play at 1024x768 or maybe a bit higher adn don't want to use AA, than i think 320mb may be enough.

There are a few progs that keep track on how much of your cards' RAM is been utilized. I forget the name but if you find it you can run it while playing a graphics-heavy game and check the usage after you exiut. The specifiac prog I remember kept a line-graph.

GeForce 7600GS 256MB

2GB RAM

Windows XP sp2

350W PSU

Will my rig run it ?

You see, the problem is that I want to upgrade my graphics card into 9500GT but I don't know do I need to buy a new PSU to not to catch up in flames when I start playing something.
