Compared to serious gaming rigs, mine isnt much. I had to go kinda cheap at the time, and wanted a better vid card, but got what I could.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Ram: 2 gigs Crucial

GPU: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS Superclocked

HDD: 250 gig Western Digital

PSU: 700 Watt OCZ Game Xtreme

Motherboard: Abit IP35 PRO (wanted an SLI board but at the time all the sli boards had horrible reviews, few months later the 750i's came out sad.gif )

OS: Windows XP service pack 2

Monitor: Samsung 22' widescreen LCD

Case: NZXT Lexa Blackline black steel (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146038)

Extra:

2x Red Cathode bulbs (for extra sex appeal at lan parties biggrin.gif)

Its a pretty good set up, and its not too expensive for someone looking for a nice, affordable gaming rig. Id recommend getting a better vid card/mobo though.

Off-topic: Does anyone know how to turn off HDR in the Nvidia control pannel for the Geforce 8 series?? I've been trying to figure out what to change for the past few days =/.

I saw the rig that CC posted... Wish mine was that good.. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif ..

Finished doing some of the adjustments to mine, lost the 8800GT, cryani.gifcryani.gif .. Need to exchange for ATI.. Have also taken out the velociraptor ready for a new HD...

Thought I would post some pics of it and even one of my tri screens, wish they were as big as the other guys.. But then again I shouldn't be complaining..

As CC said its nice to see other people who have decent rigs as I often see people with your standard Dell and don't get me started on Alienware...

These are some parts of the PC I'm currently saving up to buy. I won't have it in time for GTA IV but it'll be worth the wait and there should be some good mods for it by then. Didn't even bother to get it for a console. Waste of time in my opinion..

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450(Will have it running at 3.4-3.6GHZ)

GPU: XFX GeForce GTX 280

RAM: Corsair 4GB DDR 2 800

HDD1:WD Raptor X 150GB 10000 RPM

HDD2: Eagle Tech 1TB 7200 RPM External Hard Drive

Monitor:Acer Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

Case: COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 Evolution Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower

If anyone of you guys have any recommendations don't be shy.

It can be very useful actually, especially if you are doing Photoshop work or work involving several windows. Gaming not so much.

Think I should be able to play it maxed out. If I couldn't, what would be the weak link in my setup, CPU and graphics card?

Anybody?? dontgetit.gif

The only problem I see there is probably your TV, the maximum resolution most TV's with PC capabilty can go up to is 1360x768, which isn't that high when you think about it. Get a normal 22" or 24" monitor, most 22 inches can run games on 1680x1050 as their native resolution and 24 inches can run at a full 1920x1200. But yeah, you'll be able to run it on full.

The graphics card definitely. I don't *think* you can max it out on a 3850.

It'll probably make me want to run my 360 through a wood chipper.

If you do that will you post some nice shots ?biggrin.gif

Yeah, it's not a full HD TV but the likes of COD4 looks great so I'm happy enough with it.

Hmm, so processor won't be bottle necking then? I'm thinking 4850 1GB upgrade?

I know sh*t about AMD CPU's but hat proc is a bit outdated. Obviously you should upgrade that also if you are going for the 4850.

AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 2.08 GHz, 1GB of RAM, ATI Radeon X1600.

I miss my 6800 and duece-core. I'd be better off a console gamer right now. I would've been too, before, but it ran games decentely.

What happened with your dual core?

ush, your PC meet's the specs for at least medium. So if you are ready to settle with a quality level which will outperform the consoles, then stick with your PC for now. If you do upgrade do so properly.

I just have a taste for max settings now so don't want to fall behind! I reckon a decent quad core and the 4850. My mobo is not AM2+ but the proc is backward compatable.

I'm heading to America next month though so I'm wondering would I get those parts cheaper there?

It... Fried. I'm guessing an electric glitch or so, but meh. Everything in it is destoryed. I go out to buy me some bread, and come back ten minutes later to find nice gray smoke wallowing out of my little PC room (5 by 5 feet), the one I'm using now was in the hallway. It (the old one) has a bigger HDD than the other one, so I store all of my music, movies photos and such on it. I didn't lose any of them. By October I should have a new rig, I'll be playing on 8600 for some time, and then I'll get one of these new fancy-schmancy ATI cards.

Warranty expired, dunno if it even covers these kinds of things.

An Xbox would be a relief, but I can hold on for a few months.

As far as can I know PC isn't doing great in US, so probably the components are a bit more expensive there. But like I said, I don't know.

In my country that CPU goes for some 210 € while I cant even find a 1GB 4850. 512MB 4850 goes for some 170 €.

Gronf, I didn't know dual core would melt so easily. It seems a bit weird to me, it must have been some major fault.

Yeah, I'm in Ireland and pc parts are generally abit dearer here but Pixmania is a French company I believe but deliver all over Europe and are the cheapest I've found online.

Well the reason I have 3 screens is because I ran dual screens at work and it is so useful so I got together my 19" wide and a 15" and used them for a while, you game on the 19" and then have itunes or other apps up on the other.. Now how ever I got a 22" and so I kept the other 2 aswell. . Gaming there is no advantage but using other things like word and IE or stuff you have things on different screens, easier multitasking.. Also if you have programs with loads of toolbars you put them all on another screen.. If I'm doing a lighting desgin (hobby) its great to have the tech plan on one and then controls on another and then have what you would see on the third, but not in that order... Modding games is also usefull as different apps on each screen...

I find it useful...

@ ush.. Erm it most likely wouldn't be cheaper to buy them from a highstreet street shop in the US. You should look online as thats where alot of things are cheaper..

I'll be upgrading my monitor,

My advice: buy a CRT

CRT owns LCD in image quality, reaction time and health

LCD's are over-marketed pieces of steaming crap and should die out at once.

My ol' Samsung with a DynaFlat screen owns most modern mid-class LCD's even though the screen ain't REALLY flat (overmolded or something)

And i bought it for 10$ a while ago

Musn't i say to adjust the refresh rate (that's why CRT get bad notes cause of flicker, but high refresh rate can do wonders

Oh, i guess i OT. Whatever tounge.gif

I don't agree. I have 19' widescreen monitor, and I'm very happy of using it. It has better contrast than my 17' CRT, and right now I would never switch to CRT again.
