I wouldn't recommend that, external drives are noisy as hell.

At least these cheap ones. (I have a LaCie)

Next time I need more space, I'm gonna go for an internal HDD, they're cheaper too.

My Ioemega 500GB isn't noisey, and it only cost £50 from Comet.

Yeah, mine barely makes any sound at all. Even if I get right near it I can't hear it. Its a Western Digital though, so its pretty high quality.

AMD X2 6000+ 3.0Ghz

ATi HD4850 512mb overclocked edition

3Gb DDR2

500GB HDD

Will be running on a brand new install of Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit next weekend. (that's when I'll pop in my new GPU and ram, completing the setup shown above)

Say what you want, but it's a fact Vista will stay clean for much longer than Windows XP. XP's registry gets horribly corrupted after a year or two, slowing down the system down, a LOT.

I love your processor. Btw why did you go with 4GB ram instead of 3GB (or even better, 6GB) triple channel?

You should run the game pretty fine on max, depending on your resolution.

you can do dual channel on nehalem

maybe he didn't have enough money to buy a triple channel DDR3 kit after the coreI7

also, nehalem aren't the best thing for gaming, actually

i hope he didn't buy this to get some framerate improvements

as it is the first time i post on this topic, maybe i should post my config:

screen: samsung T220 22" WIDE 1680 x 1050 2ms Contraste : DC 20 000:1 (1000:1) (***** sur lesnumériques réglé selon leurs conseils)

CPU: intel core 2 duo E8400 [email protected] [email protected] with Noctua NH-C12P (can't get more than 45°C with full charge)

MB: Gigabyte ga-ep45-ds3r (bios F10)

GC: ATI HD4850 golden sample 512Mo by Gainward (default clock is 700/1100 on this golden sample, instead of 650/1000, i will maybe push more (750/1200 would be great) on 3d, but i want to underclock it in 2D before that)

HD: 2 Samsung spinpoint F1 320Go and 16Mo cache (OS+SOFTWARES) with WIN XP SP3 (fully optimized by myself, 15 processes and 130Mo swap idle) and 750Go and 32Mo cache (DATA)

memory: G.Skill DDRII 2 x 2 Go PC6400 PI Series BLACK 4-4-4-12 @ 800Mhz

MX518 Logitech (***** lesnumériques), enceintes XPS 2.160

everything in an Antec Nine Hundred (all fan on low) and powered by a Corsair HX - 520W

Will run, but 9600 isn't a great card, and yours happens to be the mobile version. I'd say you can hit medium pretty safely, even high if you're lucky. It's all down to how well R* optimizes the game.

Exactly what model is your C2D?

Edit: Did a little more research, it appears the desktop edition 9600GT is roughly the same as ATi 3870, mobile edition falls a little bit behind, but it should be good enough, you've got nothing to lose sleep over.

Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz

It suits my needs pretty well. Runs Adobe Creative Suite 4 like a dream and also handles all of my games with ease.

If I want to couple 2 craphic cards, does their memory have to be the same?

well, the higher one will be reduced to the amount of GDDR of the lower one

i just bought two 9800gx2`s  hoping they wil be ok got them cheap wink.gif

even for free, it's still a waste, sell them now on ebay before it's too late

Deeper: How's your I7 mate?

I can max every setting on it no problem, only the occasional framerate stutter now and again. Not tried on the new 24" monitor yet though, that will probably break it.

My previous Crysis benches were quite good though, sometimes pwning single 280s and some Crossfire 4780s too.

Check the v-high 4AA scores. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/show...ad.php?t=286518.

I will have to do more benches now with the widescreen resolutions. Don't think I will fare so well then.

I was worrying about my warming craphic card (my pc reboots after 1:30 hour of intense playing). But I have find the solution:

After some dumbass told me: "Your graphic card is getting hot? That's because you didn't overclocked it!" I just opened my tower and it runs fine now. cool.gif

Are the Nvidia geforces 9600 that bad?

Cheers for that mate, only OC'ing I've done is a little RAM overclocking, I don't see the point in

overclocking a Dual chip GPU. (overheating issues mostly, I'm waiting for the DX11 GPUS).
