Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying new ram, should I go and buy some 2x1GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz? or just stay with DDR2 @ 800MHz

Stay with DDR2, theres not that much of a differences and will save you a little bit of money...

thanks, yeah that's what I thought but indeed one day DDR2 will be as useless as DDR and everyone will be on DDR3, by that day DDR3 should be cheap as DDR2 now rolleyes.gif

2gb of kingston hyper-x

Early air testing with lower overclocks:

I blew my first processor I had with the system a opteron 175. I had that one upto 3.3ghz. But stupid me on air I thought it would hold. It was holding good at 3.1 but I guess pushing it was a dumb idea.

Thought I might upgrade my video cards soon.

Thinking of 2 HD4850's but that would mean a mother board upgrade to support crossfire. But then I dont know if I could get the same overclock. sad.gif

My proposed barebone update.

As you already know i will move these components to a new barebone so i can run GTA 4 as best as i can without a quad core

RAIDMAX RX-450K 450W ATX12V Power Supply

LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black IDE GH22LP20

eVGA GeForce 9600GT KO 512MB PCI Express 2.0 x16

Maxtor IDE 6Y120PO master hard drive

Maxtor IDE 4R120LO slave hard drive

I will add those to this barebone

# DYNAPOWER TITAN-C2914 case

# ASUS M2N-SLI mobo (with 2 IDE ports)

# ATHLON X2 5400 2.8G - BRISBANE (65W)

# CRUCIAL 2GB DDR2 800 ram (1 stick)

I already spent 135+ dollars on the new psu, new card and the dvd-dl in October. Once i add the barebone next month, the computer GTA4tification will cost me roughly 400 bucks in 2 months. (roughly 450 when i buy the game). In the end it won't be a quad core, but for that amount GTA 4 will run fine on it and my current PC game Warhead will be great on a mainstream-gamer mix as opposed to minimum-mainstream mix on my current setup

You may want to try a single 4870 or GTX 260 216 core.

Only thing about ATI's newest offerings is clock for clock spec for spec they should beat nvidia. Only problem is their drivers. A few more driver releases they might be trumping them out right.

Remember Im getting 2 cards as well and in most benchmarks and game tests the 4850 is only around 15 - 20% behing the gt280 having 2 4850,s the scalling is around 75% so I will be beating the gt280 hands down. I will be 50% faster then a gt280.

Sweet, I'd add more RAM to take advantage of Vista 64's extended RAM usage. wink.gif

To be honest I can't remember. I haven't played it in a while. I think it was basically just a few DX10 goodies that I had to turn down to high. Things like volumetric effects.

1680x1050. I think its more the processor thats hurting me. Not the GPU.

lol.gif you got robbed.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66GHZ - 300 EUR

8GB RAM - lets say you got the most expensive stuff - DDR3, 1333 MHz - 360 EUR

GeForce GTX260 - lets say you got the most expensive OC edition 896 MB - 310 EUR

1TB HDD @ 7200 RPM - lets say Seagate - 135 EUR

Windows Vista Ultimate x64 - 240 EUR

20.1 Inch 1080i DELL monitor - the most expensive DELL monitor I could find, 2007WFP - 435 EUR

TOTAL - 1780 EUR (and these are the most expensive parts I could find)

OK, throw in some nice MOBO (200 EUR), PSU (150 EUR) and a case (100 EUR). Maybe a BD device (200 EUR). That totals 2430 EUR.

Where did you buy that PC?
