pocketpc
How-to get GTA SAN ANDREAS to work on vista Brought to you by <<< NinethInsighT >>> :METHOD ONE: ------------ Assuming your using your (User Admin account) this method will not work with standard account you must Be a member of Admins and this doe's not refur the main (Administor admin) Account. right click on the game or program execute and click Properties Then choose Compatibility tab, At the bottom of the window you will see (Run this program as an administrator) tick this and press (OK) Then see if game will run. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you still have a problem running your game or program with method one try the following method two Because UAC is so touchy and has loads of bugs still, allowing parental control may work better As this gives permissions directly and seems to be the only usable way to get uac to accept the game. To get game running under a standard user account this should work for user Admin account as well: :METHOD TWO: ------------ 1: password all admin accounts just for security (but not needed but advisable) 2: go to Control Panel\User Accounts\Manage Another Account\ At the bottom of the page where it says (Additional things you can do) click on (Set up Parental Controls) when UAC box appears click continue Then choose and click the the account you wish to allow permissions for. 3: This windows heading says (Set up how (user) will use the computer), user being you, 4: Under windows Settings click on ( Games: control games by rating, content or title ) 5: New window heading appears ( Control which types of games (user) can play ) 6: Click on ( Block or Allow specific games ) 7: Here you will find your games listed, click ( always allow ) buttons for all the games you want to allow and then click OK. 8: also add the games execute to DEP see info below for Data Execution Prevention how to That’s it you should find your game will work with no problems, Once again if it will not run under these methods Your Operating system is messed up and permissions are locked down These methods work fine on a fresh install of vista or a fully maintained system DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE SAYING THAT GTA SAN ANDREAS DOES NOT WORK ON VISTA (THAT’S RUBBISH) They have no idea what they are talking about and are clueless concerning vista Believe me it will run no problem I’ve tested on two different machines vista ultimate Running cracks and trainers also no problem VISTA is a good OS it’s just a shame it’s made by MS Words of wisdom: Don't disable UAC unless absolutely necessary and if you have to, reactivate when finished Installing and only do this if you know program is safe. Don't disable DEP ever; you can allow programs and games through DEP via Control Panel\System\Advanced System Settings\Performance settings tab\Data Execution Prevention tab Then choose (Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select) And simply add the programs or games you wish to allow To finish there is also another way if all else fails, activate the main Admin account (Administrator Admin )and install game on that account that will give you full permissions but you Will have to log on to that account to play, IMPORTANT do not use this account for anything else but Playing your game and I would not recommend playing online games on this account because protection Extremely limited to none a sure way to mess up your system ( You have been warned ) Once finished playing log into your own account. Hope this helps someone This has been brought to you by <<< NinethInsighT >>> alias pocketpc FREEDOM IS YOUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT Edited August 14, 2008 by pocketpc

radioman
Good job, though Ring of Fire has already done this first(and his has videos showing step by step) how to do it. But as far as getting it to run on Vista, it all depends on your system specs(ie. your RAM, what kind of processor and what type (1.5ghz etc), your Video/Graphics card and how much memory it has, etc.) I know, I had Vista Home Basic, and it installed fine and all, but when I went to play, the lag was so bad that it was basically unplayable as you could barely to not at all move.-and I had a 1.5GHZ processor and 2GB Ram and a 178mb video card-which are all well above the minimum specs for the game-as I could run it good on an XP system with only a 798MHZ processor 256mb(at first)/768mb(at end)RAM, 32mb processor(which was a VIA just like the Vista one), etc. So, it just goes to show that Vista was not really designed for gaming as you need A LOT higher specs(a higher end PC), in order to play games (GTA) on it. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I would say for Vista, to play smooth, at least the following specs: 1GB RAM (I had this amount on my media server a while ago and it worked fine with gta games on Vista) Nvidia 6600 GT 128MB (I had this a while too, all GTA's worked great on it) 1.6ghz CPU (I have ran it on a crappy 1.6ghz and it ran fine)
pocketpc
Thank you all and you are welcome, Points noted yes you are correct it does depend on specs but i am assumming people all ready know this, It is safe to assume not all people are totally in the dark when it comes to obvious things concerning PCs and i would like to point out that 98% of the time Vista will tell you when you try to install that one or more things are not up to spec or incompatable. Food for thourght The safest way of playing up to date games is to have an up to date PC. <<<Another Insight>>> Also keep in mind that Vista is basically a modded version of XP in that what you find in xp you will find in Vista (file for File) plus a few more extras, I guess what I am trying to say is that if a game ran on XP theres no reson in hell why it will not run on Vista you just have to find what is stopping it, and that is usually something like DEP,UAC,Firewalls ,virus software and useraccounts, And still counting but so far ive installed a serious number of Games and Programs from the XP days and further back as well and apart from the odd few, Find no major problems except you may have to update to new versions when told. I hope you guys dont think iam lecturing, Its just what i have learned to date. Any how i hope this info helps others and I would have never learned so much about pcs and software if it wasnt for NICE PEOPLE that trawl the forums posting such info no matter if you seen it else where. And just to confirm i found out the above problems for my self and could not find the answer on the net and i did look, I found the answers through trial and error the hard way and beleive me as you may know it was a really frustrating amount of time but its a buzz when you finnally crack it! Thanks again for the appreciation and really glad it has already helped some poeple. Its nice too be nice SurfSafe <<<NinethInsight>>> Edited August 14, 2008 by pocketpc
