Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Well, for a heads up, Zack Snyder revealed at CC '08 that there would be an episodic, downloadable Watchmen videogame to tie-in with the film and in the future a next-gen, console 300 game. Comic Con 2008 GTTV Zack Snyder Interview ^ All the details are in that vid. Watchmen Game Yes, this game is going to be a downloadable, episodic deal which sucks for me. Read on... The videogame for next year's big screen adaptation of the groundbreaking Watchmen graphic novel is doing things differently -- with episodic releases. The third-person brawler, developed by Danish studio Deadline Games, will arrive as downloadable episodes for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, tying into the release of the film, report MTV and Variety today. The two outlets have two different takes on the announcement. MTV notes that the game will act as a prequel to the film, and comic series, with the action taking place in a "subversive" 1970s -- the original story is set in 1985. Nite Owl and Rorschach are the main characters featured, with other heroes from the series possibly appearing. But why episodic downloads instead of a big-budget disc game? Variety has the scoop: (Warner) execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they'll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year. "We don't want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail," said WBIE senior veep of production and development Samantha Ryan. "A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect." Gameplay looks to be heavy on the action, with characters facing up to 20 on-screen enemies. The game will also include a split-screen co-op mode, for the ultimate in team-up battles. The first Watchmen episode is expected to come out in March 2009, alongside the release of the film, with another episode planned for the DVD release. And a really good scoop on gameplay, which got me grinning. Last week, when Warner Bros. announced it was developing a video game to promote the release of next year's Watchmen film, we figured it'd be just another boring console movie adaptation, something along the lines of practically every other crappy one that's ever been made. Turns out we were completely wrong! At Comic-Con over the weekend, Watchmen director Zack Snyder was asked by a fan about the game's plot, which he described thusly: "Woodward and Bernstein are in New York lecturing and the Comedian assassinates them … We tried to come up with an idea where you, like, kill Woodward and Bernstein." Apparently Snyder wrote the story, which aims to fill a few of the gaps in the Watchmen universe. In the original comic series, Richard Nixon, having repealed the 22nd Amendment and eliminated presidential term limits, remains in office through the eighties — which he's able to do thanks to a Watchmen-aided victory in Vietnam and the fact that Watergate never became an issue. In a flashback sequence, the Comedian makes reference to having murdered Woodward and Bernstein before they could finish their reporting. We guess, then, in context this all makes sense and it's not like the game is asking you to kill two lions of investigative journalism for no reason at all. Even so, it sounds awesome! New 300 Game Didn't bother with the PSP version as I have common sense, and was confused and shocked that someone didn't cash in on the film's success and make a console game for it. I guess that was a Godsend as a console 300 game is coming out in the future. And if you check IMBD, Snyder is titled with an unknown 2010 '300' project, it could be the game, a new film, or this game could tie-in with a new film. I wouldn't put it past Zack though as he knows he can deliver the goods. So what do you gamers think of all this?
freak2121
I bet the game will be as in-accurate as the movie. Won't bother buying it, since it's killing people from my nation made from thousands of dots/pixels. Edited August 12, 2008 by freak2121
Kaiser_AK
It took them long enough to make the 300 game. Like any movie video game, its probably going to disappoint. I like the idea that its downloadable and episodic though.
