mkey82
Ahh, you only said across, so I thought you meant Going from right to left. Now this is what I call bull. Just admit you're wrong. This is what I said. (I started from the lower right corner of the map, near the depot for the burglar mission and ran (not sprinted) in North direction) As for Walking, Niko walks much slower than CJ, but I really don't think it's possible to cross the entire city from South to North in 120 seconds, just seems, well, crap, Takes like 20 seconds to leg it through Hove Beach and that's only a small area of Broker. Who said it takes two minutes? I said I gave up in SA after two minutes. Some guy timed it in the map thread that was going on in GTA IV forums and it totaled some 3 and half minutes from top to bottom. Niko can walk slowly, run and sprint. Well, I'm guessing CJ 's and Niko's running speed are more or less the same. Besides, how come you're soo desperate to prove the city is small? It IS the biggest City they've created, certainly bigger than Los Santos and Vice City (Previous record holder). Yes, not as big as the whole SA Map but not as small as you're trying to make out, would you really call it small? Have you played the game? Can you really say it's patheticly small to you? You are a strange one, I'll give you that. What are you talking about? "Pathetically small"? Where did I say that. Where did I even hint at the fact I find GTA IV LC small? I never ever stated that so you really need to learn to read and stop making "facts" up as you go along. Grow up and get smart. All I'm saying is that SA and IV map size ratio is around 14:5. And I consider this to be a fact, since people measured it. edit: OK, just timed it myself, To Cross Las Venturas and Los Santos (inc Countryside) via Motorway takes 1min and 30secs using a Standard Taxi, No Nos, Nigh Time and with a load of Traffic and 3 crashes (which reminds me San Andreas had bad traffic, they loved to crash). So I'd imagine with a fast car and Nos then it would shave around 20 seconds off that, so 1min and 10seconds to cross San Andreas vertically in a car. Not exactly the 20 seconds I said (it seemed fast), Now I'll try and do the same in Liberty City later on, using a Standard Taxi. Good for you, you are putting some facts where only crap used to reside. But the main issue remains the same, we can't compare it to GTA IV as we can't be sure about speed. We would need two vehicles which move at the same rate. While you are doing this, take a look ate the in game stats counter and try to drive in a straight line (as far as possible). TonyResta
I hated when people say wasted space, jesus, tell me, how was it wasted? It was actually a more realistic map than LC since it had the countryside and desert. I take it the real counterparts are wasted space too? Last time I checked there wasn't a large body of water separating the Californian countryside, and Nevada desert. Lets give it a rest with this realism bullsh*t. Last time I checked in New York you had this island called Staten Island. But there is none in LC. And also, when you compare sizes of towns featured in GTA games with real life counterparts you get to a "disturbing" fact - all the towns in GTA are only small fraction of real life towns. SO UNREALISTIC . Let's get realistic, the size (in this case) doesn't matter. What is important is they put the right amount of landmarks and manage to connect everything properly. I.e. give us a representation of real towns in small packages.

medfreak
Well it is obvious what they are doing. They have rebooted the genre. The next GTA IV : X city is going to be larger than both LC and SA, and possibly with country side.

PTRACER
I suppose you can call it "wasted space" as not much seemingly goes on there. I don't like the third big island on GTA IV because it seems like nothing much goes on there - it's far more industrial than the other three islands. However, I haven't played any of the storyline missions that happen on the 3rd island yet.

Dhatz
all aircraft in SA had speed limits,so i think all IV helis are faster than any previous. that'swhy you can't measure by flight time.
MrKlorox
and from that link it is 14 square miles for SA and 9 for LC LC covers around 5 square miles. It's something less then 2 miles high and some 2.5 miles wide. Okay, old topic I know, but I used the in game odometer and measured the length of the straight runway, from wheels behind runway to wheels past runway and I got about 0.50 miles, give or take 0.05 due to police interference. I then got a ruler and measured the runway on the map, and calculated how many times i could place it before running out of land... both vertically and horizontally. I resulted in slightly under seven horizontally and slightly under five vertically: that's about 3.5mi by 2.5mi. Not the most accurate, but using this method the GTA4 map is less than 8.75 miles square. A bit bigger than the estimated five, a little smaller than the estimated 9, but it's still a LOT smaller than 2/3 the size of SA.
Barciur
Well let's say hypothetically that they do the same places as in GTA3 just differently laid out.. can you imagine SA in 4? Dang it's gonna take 10 minutes to get from LS to SF and i love it! and the countryside will be beautiful

Mr_Prickles
Cross the city in half a minute, by car??? That sounds like it's really small. I haven't timed this, but I'd say it takes me a good 5-6 minutes to get from Grove Street in Los Santos to, well, say Jizzy's Club under the Bridge in San Fierro, which is not actually crossing the entire map... I'll time, to see how much it is in reality... Sorry, I meant by helicopter. But by car? thats 1 and half minute or maybe less, not really sure. But yes, the map isn't huge by scale, but it is very detailed. I timed myself, and in SA, running as fast as I could with full stamina, it took me about 3 or 4 minutes to get from East Beach to Rodeo. Took about a minute and a half to do the Strip in LV. Never tried in SF. I'd have to say, SA as a state, is tiny. III's LC was bigger than any of the cities in SA.
