Damo.
The thing is, none of the GTAs really have a story that could be made into a movie. Even if they did make one, it'd probably be terrible like most video-game movies.

tmac9wr
There was supposed to be a movie a couple years ago, when they were working on San Andreas. There were rumors Eminem was going to be involved with it, but something happened and it didn't work out. That said, I'm glad they didn't come out with a movie. GTA is set up to be a game..a GTA movie would just be another action movie. There would be no fun watching a movie character take on Vigilante missions and Taxi missions haha. CarpetDweller
I've always found the thought of a "GTA-movie" as being quite an odd concept. Most of the GTAs storylines follow quite traditional or pre-existing plots that have been seen in films before anyway. If you remove the gameplay, what does that leave behind that is still 'GTA'? For me a GTA plot is defined by the following: A. Protagonist arrives in new city and immediately runs into trouble. B. Has to take small-time criminal jobs. C. When taking jobs he meets more and more connections and will also work for each them. D. Some of your 'employers' are enemies of other 'employers'. E. There are car chases and shoot-outs. F. Someone who was your friend early in the plot will turn against you. G. The protagonist will have their revenge on someone that wronged them. Other than the plot GTA is made up of: A. Humour - there are 2 levels to this. Satirical humour based on pop culture and modern society. This is generally utilized by the storyline, the dialogue, characters and the actions they take. Innuendo / Puns / School-boy humour (not to be confused with Frat-Boy humour) - the more low brow humour is usually kept to background details. This is best displayed in the everyday logos, jingles, promotional materials of the businesses that exist in the GTA world. These are not usually the main focus of the game, but cause a chuckle or smile when you spot one you haven't seen before. These highlight the obsurdity of our world and can have even more impact when a dramatic seen is played out in front of them. B. Freedom - the go anywhere, do anything, off-rails, sandbox exploration feeling. Unless the game is released only on DVDs where you can pick your own order to watch the scenes or ignore some and play others, this is unlikely to be recreated effectively on film. Similarly "side-missions" would be hard to recreate without DVD extras. These are better off left out. I actually came to this topic thinking a film was a bad idea, but I'm starting to change my mind now. I think there is a distinct GTA-style which isn't necessarily limited to games and would make it something different to other crime movies. If they do it though it should be a completely new story. They should not try to make a live-action version of an existing game. On another note, I'd be happy to see a few more official short films in the style of SA's "The Introduction" created by R* using the GTAIV engine. There are lots of opportunities to expand the IV story by showing events that led to it or by focusing on other characters. They could always create a movie around the "murder simulator" idea. Plot: A man living very much in the real grey world regularly plays GTA. As the film progresses his personality changes and he takes on the persona of his GTA character. The real-world also appears change around him to mirror the GTA game-world as it starts to control him.
Gabriel Constantin
The closest thing to an "GTA Movie" I'd like to see would be an official Machinma by Rockstar that helps tie-in the GTA 3 trilogy. Could be interesting.
BlOoDStReAm101
It wouldn't happen. Fox Atomic owns the rights to make a movie called Grand Theft Auto. The movie they own the rights to, has nothing to do with the videogame, but is based on a 1977 Roger Corman pic. Well, I’m not sure how that prevents a Grand Theft Auto movie from happening, but that's my theory. Unless they call the movie GTA? But anyway, Gamespot interviewed Houser if there will ever be a GTA movie, and this was his response: "It is not something we are currently interested in," was his blunt assessment. Angelo Leone
I decided to make Misty a young, fresh prostitute and have her own sidestory where after Sal's death, and Luigi's death(picture "Under Survelliance with Luigi as the mafia commander)she joins the Leone Family and ends up killing Claude and herself at the end, leaving only Ray,Joey, and Toni alive.Darkel kills Donald Love with a suicide bomb. And Darkel will be played by Ted Levine.
Gabriel Constantin
Again, seriously? Misty joining the Leone Family is as likely as Claude being made. Like I already said; she's just an skanky street prostitute with as loose connections to the family as her vagina. If you ask me, Misty should have a very small role (like she does in the actual game) and should be played by renown drug addict come model, Kate Moss:

Gabriel Constantin
I think Samuel Jackson would make a better 8-Ball, but he's such a big actor, be kind of a shame to have him play such a small role. As for Paul Sorvino, no. He looks nothing like Salvatore. Not to mention the fact that people are just going to call this a Sopranos reunion with all the actors you've chosen. Personally, I'd go for: Scott Maslen (Played Claude in GTA 2 opening) to play Claude, though.
Angelo Leone
Paul Sorvino may not look like Sal,but if you have seen Goodfellas, then you'll know why I chose him.Besides,do you have to trash everything I do?But you are right about Kate Moss,in retrospect, she would make a better Misty. The reason I had Misty killing Claude at the end was because I wanted it to be more of a serious tragedy.

The reason I had Misty killing Claude at the end was because I wanted it to be more of a serious tragedy. I'm not trying to trash "everything you do." I'm just pointing out obvious flaws in your logic. Movies, especially those based upon games, have to stay true to their characters. And considering this will never pass the stage of being discussed by a few hardcore GTA fans on a dedicated forum; I think image is going to mean a lot more here than acting credentials. I mean, Bruce Willis has done his fair share of action/tough guy roles, but we're not casting him for the part of Claude. Because he just doesn't look the part. Toxicity²
For me, GTA has always been a fun cartoony videogame. I can't see it working as a film unless it's turned into another dumbass generic action movie. And as another poster pointed out, a lot of GTA's themes are borrowed from movies. Vice City is basically GTA: Scarface and San Andreas is heavily influenced by Boyz n the Hood.
