jesushumper
Gold is a better conductor., and apperently gives you a better quality connection. USB or 3.5mm won;'t make much of a difference in sound, but the usb will be detected by your computer, and you can use 3.5mm on non-PC devices. I'd go for good ol' 3.5mm. If you game for hours on end, I'd also go for an 'around ear' design, where the ear muff thing rests on your head, not your ears., which can get a litle sore after a while. But for headphones you should really at least try them out at a local store. sound quality and comfort are pretty subjective - what's good for others may not be good for you. Take a music disc with you and find whatever model you'r elooking at and pop it into a display computer or stereo. Also if you find an itme identical to one online you can typically get the store to lower the price. Even if the store does no 'price-matching', it's usually pretty easy to get a couple bucks off if you just ask. Plus you save on shipping.
MrKlorox
Also, soundcard makes a difference in quality as well as amplification (necessary for solid bass on good cans) . At "budget" price though, you won't likely be purchasing a pair that will require a good amplifier. Doesn't USB have built in amplification since it doesn't use the soundcard's amp? I'd go with the 3.5 mm type (or better yet, 1/4" type) just for flexibility (you won't need to install drivers and you can use them on other devices). I personally use a regular pair of high quality headphones and a mic (or a xbox live style headset draped around my next with the mic in front of my mouth), but then again, I'm not a lanparty type of gamer. EDIT: Plantronics has some great DSPs... their headsets might be interesting. Edited August 14, 2008 by MrKlorox
