ICEKING_688
I've been thinking about this for a day or so now, for some reason. I would like to know what you think were the choices actually made by R* if they did the set the next game a few months after the events of GTA IV. e.g. I think that Niko did not Kill Ivan in 'Ivan the not so terrible' the first choice in the game, and that it Roman who died at the end and not Kate But what do you think and more importantly what do you about the other choices in the game i.e. Playboy or Dwayne, Francis or Gerry etc.
Machida
The other ending felt more of a natural ending to me. I'd like to give you a better answer but my spoiler tags are causing me a spot of Omar Sharif! Edited August 11, 2008 by Machida
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Anyone who could possibly have died in the IV story, will not appear in the story again, and they simply just won't be mentioned again, problem solved
NinjaJones
Anyone who could possibly have died in the IV story, will not appear in the story again, and they simply just won't be mentioned again, problem solved That would mean cutting out Roman or Kate and with no mention of their status...it would be kind of awkward. I'm thinking the two, xbox exclusive DLC packs will each center around one of the endings. One will take place after Roman's death and the other after Kate's. Just an idea... The only other thing I can see happening is that the one that died is 'miraculously' still alive and was just in a coma or something...but that's REALLY unlikely. Then again a third option would be that the DLC differs according to who died. Basically the character that lived will have a very small part in the DLC missions that won't really affect the storyline. So something like if Kate lived she will call you and ask to go out on a date (since she says Niko should call her in the Deal ending) and the conversation will mention Roman's death. And if Roman lived he will come with you on a mission that you would do alone if he died. It wouldn't be to hard...just some minor dialogue changes and the inclusion of Roman or Kate in a cutscene or two. Yeah but that would just be a bit glaring if you're playing something that totally contradicts what heppened in the main game. I don't think the DLC will even involve Niko. We may see a reappearance by a few characters, such as LJ or Brucie, but there will be no Dwayne, Roman or Kate, and no mention of them, it would just be that much easier

Tony Mozzarelli 80
Hmm yeah i suppose it could depend on your save game, but i don't know if that's even possible for them to do that

Niko could be dead by the next gta and we'd have no way of knowing what happened to him (unless its about him). If they mentioned one of the characters that might be or is dead they might say remember that bent cop McReary or that drunk or that guy who owned a cab depot in Broker then made it and like "that gangster Dwayne Forge" or that fake Playboy X stuff
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Yeah i agree they could reference them as long as they didn't allude to their current status
Magic_Al
It's simple: if it's not supposed to happen it's a failed mission, otherwise anything goes. "Canon choices" is a question for Star Wars games that have to follow an established timeline, past and future. By comparison GTA doesn't look back much. ICEKING_688
You've talked solely about the ending choice, but what about other choices in the game like the choice between letting Darko or whatever his name is live or die, and the choice between Derrick or Francis etc.
Dillinger8
I'm pretty sure both endings are meant to lock in Niko's "lifestyle" of dealing out death for the right price. Each has him close to being legit and straight and then suddenly getting it swatted down in flames and death. He's down for more killing and jobs, aka another game. That's just my view on it.
