completeidiot23
Only just got broadband, and noticed lagging. Like things pop-up out of nowhere, cars are driving sideways, people running on the spot. If I'm lagging does that effect other people? and what does it look like for them? Can people tell whos lagging? And what speed should my connection be to have a smooth game? Thanks (I'm all new to this)

completeidiot23
Ok thanks, so when 1 person laggs does everybody experience the same effect. And I'm sure it was me (Wireless broadband 256kps)
Lazlo_Panaflex
No...not necessarily. If I am playing a particularly laggy game....I will usuall quit and restart everything. I am on a pretty fast connection...but it still happens. I've lagged so bad that I've been killed and have never even seen the shot.
completeidiot23
Do you reckon a Wireless 256kps is enough
SuperJude™
Do you reckon a Wireless 256kps is enough It should be enough but you'll notice in games with RPG's or Assault Rifles, you'll likely experience more lag. Pass protect your router, obviously, so you don't have people leeching while you try to play. Also, avoid downloading while playing, it'll lag you out as well. xxxBdogxxx
Yea, i get pissed off too when the game lags heaps Why cant technology just work the way we want it to?
CTDiesel
Yea, i get pissed off too when the game lags heaps Why cant technology just work the way we want it to? Amen to that. I used to get so pissed off when racing. I would run into an object that would stop me dead in my tracks and I'd loose multiple positions....yet I would see another car run into the same object and bounce right off it and keep on going. Or I'd fly over a wall (like on an elevated road) and go down to the bottom, but another car goes over in the same fashion and disappears, only to reappear right in front of me a split second later.....It had me convinced I was being bent over every time. I'm not too happy about the only mp on PS3....played on xbox once and it was leagues better....perhaps psn needs some maintenance.
TheBruceter
Yeah its annoyin when u'r in a car chase and the car infront is at one side of the screen then the other the next second. What i tend to do is shoot for the wheels and drive a bit slower than what they are. When they crash they won't lag out as much so its an easier kill. Acidhaus
You may want to consider increasing your speed if you notice lag all the time. I have a 5mps and I still notice lag every once in a while but if you are lagging a lot it is something on your end.
completeidiot23
5mps? i have like 256kps. That must be blazing fast on your end?
Lazlo_Panaflex
I lag a bit...but only because of my dodgy reception from my wireless router etc. I'm sure if I cabled my router to my PS3 I'd get better results. I sometimes have issues streaming movies from my PC to my PS3.

I sometimes have issues streaming movies from my PC to my PS3. I'm the same, I only notice lag due to my wireless connection or when I forget I'm downloading stuff on my laptop. Most times when I turn on the PS3 I check the connection status, just to make sure that the wireless signal is around 90%. I've only streamed movies and TV shows to my PS3 from my laptop when I first got the PS3. It wasn;t so great on wireless but was pretty fast wired, just a hassle having to move the router etc to hard wire the PS3.
CTDiesel
Is it better to just run a wire from my wireless router straight to the ps3?
Lazlo_Panaflex
Is it better to just run a wire from my wireless router straight to the ps3? Well...yeah, it would be. Wired is faster than wireless, right?
Celtic_Assasinz
Yeah definately. I would if Icould, just the position of the router is not ideal.
Lazlo_Panaflex
COnsidering the signal from my router has to go through about 4 walls.....I am pretty happy with my 52%. One day I shall climb into the roof and cable directly from my router to my PS3.
Purple_ Kush
if you wire directly to your router, do u still have to open ports and all that stuff. i'm wired directly to my modem, which means i can't have my pc connected at same time. I connected directly to router before but couldn't get a mp game going, nobody joined the lobby and i couldn't get into any lobbies with people there. GTA online is doing my head in

GTA online is doing my head in I'd only forward/open my ports if I had NAT type 3. If you have it plugged into your router you should get NAT 2. If UPNP is not available I'd try forwarding your ports.
EvOIV
Wired is annoying, on cod4 for example my m8 turned his pc off and we all got connection interupted and were signed out
completeidiot23
Yeah I plug my ethernet cable straight into the back of modem, which is a wireless one. I will upgrade my place double the speed, an extra 15 bucks, but I have to get out of the first month first.
