Lazlow Chatterbox
there is no problem at all as long as they know that it is not real and they can not do any of the things in real life.

Delta Bishop
I was allowed to play GTA III when I was young, and I dont randomly feel like inflicting violence on people or stealing cars, and I know its very wrong to do these things. I think its ok to play it when your around 11 - 12, as long as you have a talk to your parents about it. I know lots of people will most likley disagree with that but thats my opinion. jedimario
Actually, it's not illegal here in the States (our government doesn't babysit like you Europeans', not yet), so considering this, I think that each person can play once they can understand that what they are doing is fiction and should never be emulated in any way, shape, or form. For some, this comes at young age, while other never learn this. So it varies.

Iminicus
Should 18 year olds be allowed to f*ck 14 year olds? Should I be allowed to kill you? Should a 4 year old smoke meth? I'd like to say you presented a valid reason as to why children under the age requirement for a game, should be allowed to play. Yet, I see it is severely lacking. The answer is no. I don't give a sh*t if this 8 year old is a well rounded child. The fact remains, games like Manhunt and Grand Theft Auto are not suit nor directed at 8 year olds. Just because your incompetent parents ignore warnings and a self imposed rating system and then blame the game when you maim your cousin, doesn't mean that is responsible. Do you know why there is so much controversy over violence in video games? It isn't because of the violence. It is because children under the age of that game are allowed to play them by neglectful parents. It is abuse when your mom lets you play Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt. She is mentally abusing you. But, she doesn't care. You know how I know she doesn't care? Because she doesn't mother the f*ck up and tell your spoiled little ass 'NO.' No, it isn't your f*cking right either to play them. No, in fact, you are a CHILD, you have no f*cking rights, except a good home, a roof over your head, food on the table, clean clothes, and an education. Don't give me the bullsh*t 'But, I'm mature for my age,' because you aren't. Especially, if you think playing Teen rated games makes you mature. It doesn't. Go tell you mom and dad that they need to be f*cking responsible and take a goddamn active interest in what you do online, in your video games, at school, etc. And they can start by banning you from this forum dedicated to the very games you are not old enough for. Although I pay taxes, I'll start conforming to the system when the system makes it worth my while. I'm of the view that it should be left to the parent to decide if their kid plays GTA. All to often though the parent isn't a factor. Most kids are able to pick up GTA from their local games store themselves. In this case then I agree with government restrictions. Although you could say that these restrictions aren't being enforced very effectively by the government. Does that make it less or more of a problem I wonder? crazymodder
im 14 now and i was freed to play GTA since im 8 years old. but my family had an advice for me, 'never try to copy what the game does, including violence, sex and drug usage'. my parents take care of me, like a son of golden. OT: its not good if a 4 years old kid to play a 18+ game like GTA. too many violence may make the kid copies the actions within the game. i just read a news that a 8 (or 9) years old kid killed a taxi driver because he dont have enough money to play GTA. he had a collection of GTAs since he was 4. this happened at Thailand. Svip
Dude? Something wrong with a 18 year old f*cking a 14 year old? Below 13 is a problem, perhaps. But 13 and upwards, no problem, if they accept it! At least, that it is by Danish laws. And somewhat most European laws. Somewhere between 13 and 15 in Europe. Hell, even people in that range can f*ck each other. We are not so up and crying about f*cking each other.

Sir Million Knives
I dont think its 'wrong' in the deepest sense of the word but I do think its not good. Nowadays the people who played San Andreas when they were 12 or so are in their late teens, and holy f*ck its out of control. They think they are some kind of gangsters, wear bandannas, throw up gangsings and sh*t. More than once I've been fronted on by a pack of 16 year old boys and girls dressed like they are straight out of compton. If I could legally do it I'd smack all of those damn degenerates around the head. I think age restrictions arent so perfect, level of maturity is what counts. I've seen 12 year olds way more mature than most 16 year olds for example. If your child has ADD or something, for gods sake take the GTA away. Struff Bunstridge
There is a reason some games and films are rated as unsuitable for anyone below a certain age. It's a decision taken by people who are largely better informed about the suitability of the material than, say, a whining fourteen year old who claims to be mature enough to handle graphic violence, scenes of a sexual nature, or references to drug usage, but isn't allowed to play the game. It is simply the case that, as a fourteen year old, you are extremely likely to be incapable of processing, storing, and dealing with this material appropriately. You may be very mature indeed, and I'm sure your parents let you stay up very late, but you are not an adult, and at age fourteen, you are unlikely to have achieved anything, or developed a sufficient level of trust between you and your parents or guardians, that might warrant you being treated like one. Mike Tequeli
I'm surprised how many of you are defending the bullsh*t that gets thrown at GTA all the time. Of course its fine, if you think you're kid is sane and you've raised him well, who gives a sh*t. If he goes out and murders a hooker ten years later it only says something about your parenting skill and/or mental illness. I hate sheltered kids, they know nothing at ages when kids should have a bit of knowledge of the world, good or bad. The better reason not to have your kid playing GTA at five years old is that he should be out getting real physical activity from a young age. I grew up on violent movies, and I'm much better for the experience. The only concession I'll make is that horror movies kind of f*ck kids up when they're only six or seven. Mark
That's the point Mike Tequeli. 17/18/whatever age limit it is in your country is a safe bet that by then everyone will be mature enough to play it. Same goes for drinking and smoking and the like. Some will be more mature and ready for it before others, but on the other hand there has to be some sort of measuring medium to decide this, so a safe age limit is enforced. As an example, when I was 16 I wasn't retarded enough to go around smashing things up and throw up everywhere after drinking a few pints, so I was fine when I went out and with certain groups I could have a few in the right places, however even now I know 20 year olds I wouldn't trust after a few bevvies. On the other hand, we've all heard of stories of 15 year olds hurting themselves after being inspired by wrestling on TV and in videogames...but we can all pretty much say to ourselves "When I was 15 I wasn't that much of a dick to do that sh*t"

I have known people to do that who have never played a video game in there life, it all depends on the individual. My parents won't let me get GTA IV despite the fact I am about 20x as mature as my freinds, they go out and beat people up and drive at 3 times the speed limit, I don't. However I have played VC and SA and never wanted to re-create them in any way in real life.
