House Of Void

Today will just be a usual day in the House of Void. Jake will be playing video games, Darius will be sitting outside watching Ryan make things fly around the back yard, 404 will be in his room twisting and reshaping to the sound of his radio, and I shall spend most of the day writing this story on how I became the owner of a house containing the supernatural. All of the people I live with have been exposed to the Aeon Experiments, which were a series of uncontrolled tests performed by the government. Some of the people that were affected didn’t survive, others became freaks of nature and isolated themselves to humanity, and some even turned on the government, but had failed doing so. There are few that had been affected to a degree that they were still considered as human, but not safe to society. I knew that these people would have to go somewhere, so I started the House of Void. My name is Andrew, and I am a psychic. I knew that I would meet these different people, and that I had to do something for them. When the ones who were going to come into the house got affected by the experiments I noted down their actions and what was happening around them. To make things a bit clearer and more engaging I’ve rewritten the notes in order of occurrence

DAY 1 OF THE AEON EXPERIMENTS, 12:00am: The experiments begin.

 

 

DAY 1 OF THE AEON EXPERIMENTS, 9:34am:

Ryan was sweeping the veranda of his house, which was in the middle of nowhere in a highway town. Across the road was another house and the ‘Stop N Go’ petrol station, which is the rest of the town apart from his house, so naturally the “town” was named Stop N Go-Ville. His father worked at the petrol station, his neighbours worked at the petrol station, and he worked at the petrol station. He had just finished sweeping and started to walk across the road that went on forever on each side of him. He turned to the west and saw a car at least 2 miles away. He turned to the east and then he saw it, a 50m high shockwave roaring up the road. He bolted back into the house to grab his dad before it hit. They ran back outside just as the shockwave hit. It was made of an incredible energy, not a force. Ryan felt something change inside him, something weird and different. The shockwave continued to blast through the town, then suddenly the petrol bowsers exploded, sending shrapnel flying towards Ryan. He screamed and waited for the steel and wood to stab into him, but they didn’t. The shockwave passed. Ryan couldn’t believe his eyes as he saw the steel and rubbish that had flown towards him were now floating around him. He took a few steps backwards and it all fell down. He looked around for his father, but he was nowhere to be seen.

 

DAY 1 OF THE AEON EXPERIMENTS, 12:45pm:

Darius had finished his shift and had gone outside to eat his lunch. He worked at a steel mill producing all kinds of metals for all kinds of things, so his body was covered in metal shavings from the machines he worked around all day. Today’s shift was taking care of the titanium bar maker, therefore he had a sprinkled coat of titanium on his arms and face. He was halfway through his sandwich when the sky turned green and a surging whirring sound was all that could be heard. Darius felt as if his whole body was being squeezed by a giant hand, he closed his eyes and groaned at the pressure being put on his body. The whirring sound subsided, and Darius waited for a bit before opened his eyes. His arms were clean of the titanium shavings and when he turned them over to inspect them they felt somewhat rigid. He stood up slowly and turned to the steel mill, which had completely transformed into an abnormal shape, almost like a crop circle but in 3d. Darius dropped his toasted sandwich and ran.

DAY 2 OF THE AEON EXPERIMENTS, 9:36pm:

Jake was working on a home call to fix an old lady’s power box. Next to the house was a basketball court where people were shooting hoops and sitting around a boom box under a street light. Jake had his hands inside the power box when suddenly the power box exploded with a blue cloud of energy, electrifying Jake then flinging him off his ladder onto the grass below. All the lights in the street shattered except the one over the boom box. All the basketball players lied on the court, all appearing to be burnt to death. The boom box had been toasted but it was still working, only the speakers were damaged so they were muffled. Jake looked at his hands, and an arc of electricity went up his fingers. Then he looked over at the boom box, and stared shocked at the black cloud moving around it. He slowly walked through the bodies on the court and examined the cloud. He waved his hand through it, and it felt like water only his hand stayed dry. He decided to change the song on the boom box, and when he did the cloud moved in a different pattern. Jake took the boom box with the strange black cloud into his utility van and drove away.

DAY 3 OF THE AEON EXPERIMENTS, 10:30pm:

I made myself a hot chocolate, picked up the cookie jar and headed out to the old couch under the oak tree in my backyard. I lived in the higher suburbs of LA, and the backyard presents me with a view of the light sprinkled city below. I make myself comfortable, take a cookie and dip it into my hot chocolate, just as the red fog heads in over the hills on the east side of the city, and seeps through the buildings and along the roads. The fog settles over the city’s centre, then a deep rumble is heard and a black object cracks out of the ground in the city park. It twists up above all the buildings, then it starts to resemble something… a claw holding a pyramid in its palm. The claw stops growing from the ground, and the fog dissolves into the night sky. I finish my hot chocolate and say “There, all done.”

 

2 months later I had arranged with the government to supply me with an establishment for the people affected by the experiments. I knew they would say yes. Within a month of the House of Void Foundation starting I was already looking after Jake and his audio friend. I had built the thing a special room away from the main rooms of the house so he didn’t react to our sounds. His room is soundproof and has a speaker in the middle of it. I run different sounds and songs through the speaker 24/7, and when testing which sounds it liked I came across a low hum in which the thing moves in a perfect circle. The sound is at a frequency of 404 MHz, therefore Jake and I called the audio thing “404”.

 

It’s been 2 years after I opened the house today. Everyone has been happily living in the house and getting along really well. 404 changes colour every now and then, but he hasn’t turned back into a human again. He does take a human form when nobody’s looking though, and he should be a normal human again in about 10 weeks.

As for the claw in the park, it hasn’t done anything. It hasn’t changed or moved in any way.

This is actually pretty interesting. I haven't seen anyone attempt this sort of thing before, kind of Heroes-esque. Interesting that you wrote it all in bold as well, it arrests the reader's attention without being overly intrusive, as a coloured font may have been. I'll be following this with interest, please keep it up.
