Fozzy Fozborne
Hello, I am currently looking for a nice TV tuner to compliment my new 22" monitor. I'm not sure exactly what I need. Pretty much all that is important is that I can receive over the air HD programming. If anyone has some input on the matter, I'd like to hear from you. I was looking at the Hauppauge HVR-1800, but I think you can only receive cable signal with it. Any interface will work as I have extra PCI-E 1x, PCI, USB, Firewire, and even ethernet ports that I could use. I am also running XP Home SP3. I'm also trying to keep it under $100. Otter
Durrrrrrrr, just looked it up. The card you suggested will do you fine, and according to reviews, it's one of the best out there. http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_hvr1800.html ...and a decent set of rabbit ears, and a guide to finding specific networks available in your neighborhood. Fozzy Fozborne
Thanks for the help... I guess that crushes that idea because I only get 3 channels in my area and they are all boring.

Well, keep in mind that everything is going digital soon, so you'll be able to get all those SD quality channels as well. I'd suggest looking into the Apple store, or other downloadable HD content. Like, I think you can buy HD episodes of LOST for super cheap.
Slamman
DirecTV's 250GB HDD Tivo model with twin ATSC tuners. I got mine for $35USD. Back when it debuted in about 2004, Hughes brought out an identicle model that was closer to $300 IIRC. reception maybe hell for you as it is for me!! Fozzy Fozborne
I think I'll wait till february 2009 before buying one, then. The prices should be a bit less then and there's no use spending money on something I really won't use for now.

I was checking out this page and see that there is many to pick from you might want to at least check them out just for reference. I would say by the time DTV becomes official these cards will be dirt cheap everywhere the market will be so saturated that they will be practically giving them away. Slamman
In the USA, you can get a coupon voucher for an ATSC terrestrial tuner box, however, a used DirecTv had the hard drive, for the model I bought and can record hours of HD programming, with two tuners, you can watch and record at the same time! Problem is Tivo will not and does not support service on it so you're out of luck with that. $50 ain't nuthin to sneeze at.
