Jato
I'm trying to finish this damn game, but the lack of proper checkpoints is really starting to get annoying. I've accepted the fact that the game can't be perfect. The subpar cover and shooting mechanics are troublesome, but can be overcome...but for that the game has to be a bit less brutal. I'm sick of having to repeat the same sh!t over and over again because Rockstar refuses to introduce some bloody checkpoints. I love this game, but I just can't stand having to go through half of the mission (just getting to the destination) because the hit-detection is poor, the cover mechanics are frustrating at best, and incidents were you accidently kill a citizen and have to deal with a rival gang AND the police which makes the mission impossible to complete. This can all be overcome, IF/WHEN Rockstar wakes up and introduces some bloody checkpoints. I really want to play this game, but Rockstar's just making it very difficult to enjoy the game! xNamexTakenx
lol @ GTAaddictforever. OT: I don't think IV needs check-points. This game was relatively easy, IMO. Especially with the cover system. But, some missions in previous GTA games frustrated me a lot! Now, those games needed check-points.
Nico Bellic
i have the same opinion like GTAaddictforever he is right, learn to play it, i've never had those problems and the game is incredible, stop making topics about this. when you dont like it then dont play it but right now its not the game thats bad ,dont take it personal but it seams you cant play it. If you make a topic like this one yeah everyone knows that you have a problem whit some parts of the game but does it really make a difference ,its not changing anything so try to become better and you will see its not difficult ,its gta 4 anyway its a difficult game ,its not easy anymore. Jato
Lol, I was expecting the internet tough guys to tell me I'm a noob etc. It's alright, I'm used to it by now. I just love guys like you that think you're so special because you're so good at playing GTA games. Bravo to you all! But to add to the discussion, it has nothing to do with difficulty. It has to do with plain and simple cheapness. GTA IV is cheap in that regard. Even if you're a complete "noob", anyone should be able to go through the entire game without too much frustration and annoyances. I'm sure I'd get through the game if I'd really try, but I don't want to have to repeat even 25% of the missions 2 or more times simply because Rockstar refuses to implement such an simple and elegant solution. I'd be playing for half an hour before I get to the end of the mission, only to die and have to go through all that again! At that point, I stop and play another game or do something else. It's just hurting the enjoyment of the game, which ultimately is the reason I play games. I know I'm not the only one as several friends of mine feel exactly the same way. Ofcourse, I realise that this place probably consists mainly of hardcore GTA fans and I shouldn't expect much sympathy here. But that's fine. I have bought the game, so I have the right to vent my opinion. Even if I'm not such a cool internet tough guy as you people!

Nico Bellic
i dont think that im an "internet tough guy" or that im the best gta player ever , also i dont think that you are a noob my friend. all i wanted to say was that there is not such a big reason to post a topic just about that .we all are good players ,the game is only one: GTA IV,so when some of us say we dont have problems and others say we have problems ..it depends on the players not on the game. if you know what i mean

fatcity
I agree there need to be some checkpoints on the longer missions. The final mission I had to repeat a dozen times. Using the "Replay" txt message was absurd between the fact that you start at the beginning of the mission, you don't get any additional ammo or health that you used up on the last try, and if you died - then you loose an excessive amount of money. Seems like the penalty is too heavy for failing a mission, not to have checkpoints.
Druton
Well I think I'm pretty good at the game (not that it's too hard ). But, you can always fail at a mission because of stupid/unforeseen reasons. In those cases it would be nice if there were checkpoints in a mission. Graven
Autosave is checkpoint. But I agree it´s little annoying, especially with those missions where You have to drive long distances. Makes one wonder if anyone has completed story without saves, without failing or dying. Not maybe at first run but it´s possible.
Habitso
A lot of missions don't need checkpoints but the last mission (I saved the game before the deal/revenge choice and saved it twice to go through both endsing) on the Deal storyline, woah! Sure we get a checkpoint after the easy part of chasing a badly driven car down a motorway. Then theres a massive gunfight, lots of shotguns. Next you enter a building with a small ammount of more health plus more shotguns. Then begins the chase. You run after Pegorino (I was carrying an assault rifle aswell!) while being shot by his goons. The chase continues when Pegorino boats off and you chase after him on a sandy terrain with lots of rocks. Once you get on the helicopter theres a bunch of rockets flying at you. Easy to dodge until the one that hits you in the storyline. For the first few turns I tried to land nearby quickly and lost Pegorino because of me escaping the helicopter, not wanting to lose 10K. Now nearby the Statue of Happiness, (there MAY be a checkpoint here, i forgot) shoot once, 5 cops'll shoot back but it all comes to an end soon when you kill Peg. After the first 3 times I was like
