CapnRedChops
Now I'm a 'camp-in-an-excellent-spot-with-plenty-of-jars-to-p!ss-in-and-wait-for-the-perfect-headshot' kinda guy. I've seen others 'sniping from the hip' with excellent accuracy (and devestating effect) at about maximum pistol range. How is this done?
SaintJimmy
You cant really 'snipe from the hip' in this game because in order to fire the sniper rifle you must go into the scope first.

SaintJimmy
I guess they're just quick/fast enough. What do you mean by 'maximum pistol range'?
CapnRedChops
I guess they're just quick/fast enough. What do you mean by 'maximum pistol range'? That seems to be the effective range for the practitioners of this dark art. The maximum range you can get a AA lock on with a pistol, estimated by me. Celtic_Assasinz
I guess it's just about reaction time. There's been so many times in a match where I know someone is sniping and its about finding them first and firing, most often than not, I'm the one who gets kills as I can never perfect my shot, I always seem to get the first shot off but never accurate enough. I much prefer sniping from distance, got my first one shot kill from some proper distance last night. The target was that far I couldn;t zoom in close enough. Jenna_Taylier
I am sheeite at sniping but I do love the sniper rifle that spawns on top of the building next to the helicopters at the airport. Some of the players in the game (as seen in FM) are amazing at piloting the helis now but all you need to do is fire zoom in and let rip into the cockpit with the sniper rifle from a really long way away and the copter just drops from the sky. It's so satisfying to hear them going nuts. Not exactly a tip but try it if you love camping and haven't done it already.

I've picked off a few pilots in the chopper, it is pretty amusing, especially in a TDM. The otherday I joined a TDM with a friend of mine, he soon had to leave and I was left in a crap game at the airport, $10,000 to win and only 2 opponents. They were being cheap and trying to f*ck me up with the helicopter blades or landing on me, so I went and got the sniper and took them out, I only wish they were on voice. I hate that slow sniper rifle, that's why I prefer powerful weapons so I can get the combat sniper rifle (PSG-1). The old brown thing (M40A1) is too slow. I used to be sh*te at sniping, it was only when I started playing AA disallow alot more that I began to use the sniper rifle more often.

Rasta Jacob
I'm pretty good at sniping. I very rarely do it in deathmatch only if I just happen to come across but in team deathmatch while my team are fighting I tend to stand back and pick off the opponents while my team have them occupied. Id say about 60% of my kills in TDM are from the sniper. Very handy if you learn to use it. The combat sniper rifle that is...the other one is slow and useless. CapnRedChops
Thanks for your replies. I have tried the airport thing, but there is a better spot nearby where a good sniper can own the ENTIRE airport... Until he is sniped by another, of course. By the way, I have sniped some poor tard in a chopper the other day from the 'near the choppers' sniper rifle building. He was just beyond the far end of the chopper landing strip, out past the control tower, and I couldn't see him or the chopper, just his coloured dot. And he had a mike. TJB, I have been told I am a reasonable shot with the rifle, but the skills involved with speed short range sniping elude me. Also the combat rifle is best for speed, and it has double the clip. The other rifle? useful for headshots from a well hidden position. It's not useless, but it's not the rifle of choice Edited August 10, 2008 by CapnRedChops

CapnRedChops
I think most of the aiming is done coarse ( without the scope out ) then scope in for a rapid fine tune and... BOOM!!! HEADSHOT!

People using sniper for close range are just idiots, its much easier just switching to another weapon, plus if you are the one approaching a sniper if he stays with the sniper you will just freak him out by getting closer and closer to a range your gun can kill him

Just quickly firing at them and one bullet from the sniper does ALOT of damage. Headshot = kill im pretty sure and consider that the person attacking you could already be low on life so a torso shot could stop him in his tracks. I've been killed by a close range sniper quite a few times aswell. Rasta Jacob
Its annoying when you've got your sniper out while you're in cover, and you cant look down the scope. But surely if your in cover that would give you time to do the obvious and equipt an assault weapon of some kind?
Celtic_Assasinz
If I'm in cover with the sniper rifle, I'll usually try to arm myself with the MP10 or combat shotgun just incase someone comes up from behind or gets too close for comfort. In the recent DTWs (Dangerous Turf Wars), when equiped with the sniper rifle and I'm moving in on a turf for the attack. I'll use the scope to to pan the area surrounding the turf, just to look out for any enemy turf defenders. I love sitting back in TDM's and backing my team up with either a sniper rifle or RPG, but I do become abit of a RPG whore at times.

michaelekylon
Either you're good at sniping or not. You gotta practice in a deathmatch and not come on here for tips from people who probably have no idea how to get a sniper headshot. If you're good you can snipe chopper pilots, snipe another sniper aiming at you and not stand on top of buildings for the best shot. I would suggest that you just crouch in a place where other players can see you but not easily. This gives you time to aim and fire while they are looking around. Also try to get the semi-auto sniper rifle is you are basically sh*t at it.
SephirothX
Sniping a guy in a moving vehicle seems next to impossible. You can't line up a shot, you have to move the scope with the motion of the vehicle and hope you line it up right.
Lazlo_Panaflex
I am really good with the sniper rifle. I can shoot ten shots and get them to group nicely nowhere near my target's head. I get the panic-fail when it comes to the sniper rifle.

Today i was having some fun at the airport sniping poor noobs, there were like 13-15 players and i just gave them a proper nightmare,i was killing them from everywhere and the poor guys were just defenseless I killed like 5 of them while they were driving a car/bikes at full speed along those landing strips, plus some nice chopper kills...Its just about alot of practice and very very good timing, when shooting at a moving target just predict its next move and move the cross hair over there and then its all about the right timing... @ The two posts above me,you made me laugh (lol at first i thought you were the same person ) And who fuccked up the page
