Ugh. All this sh*t for nonsense. Tskhinvali is f*cking obliterated, and not too mention about thousands of civilans died from airstrikes from both sides.

Ukraine better not do anything stupid. sarcasm.gif

They interfere, this "war bubble" is gonna grow so big until it pops into a worldwide war.

This backlash against Russia is quite predictable given Putin's antagonistic attitude to other nations. The man has a bad attitude so it's no wonder other nations will take any opportunity to stick in the knife.

Meeting adjourned.

The Russian basically made the statement they want to make Georgia just like Chechnya. A republic of the Russian federation.

US rep called up Russian ambassador for his statements. Just said that Russia told Rice that "Shakvilli must go." He is asking the Russians "what are your intentions?" "Is your intention regime change?" "This is unacceptable."

Russian rep refuses to answer.

US begins flying Georgian troops home from Iraq

By KIM GAMEL – 36 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (AP) — The U.S. military began flying 2,000 Georgian troops home from Iraq on Sunday, military officials said, after the Georgians recalled the soldiers following the outbreak of fighting with Russia in the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

The decision was a timely payback for the former Soviet republic that has been a staunch U.S. supporter and agreed to send troops to Iraq as part of the U.S.-led coalition.

Georgia was the third-largest contributor of coalition forces after the U.S. and Britain, and most of its troops were stationed near the Iranian border in southeastern Iraq.

The U.S. military has played down concerns about the redeployment, saying it may have "some impact" in the near term but no significant long-term effect on Iraq's security.

"We want to thank them for the great support they've given the coalition and we wish them well," military spokesman Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll said earlier Sunday at a news conference.

Georgia, which borders the Black Sea between Turkey and Russia, had asked the U.S. military on Friday to provide transportation.

"We are supporting the Georgian military units that are in Iraq in their redeployment to Georgia so that they can support requirements there during the current security situation," said Col. Jerry O'Hara, another military spokesman in Baghdad. "Flights have in fact begun today and Georgian forces are redeploying."

He declined to disclose flight details. But another senior U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information, said the military would fly the troops back "to the republic of Georgia.

The officials also said American units had been shuffled in their area of responsibility to compensate for the departure of the Georgians.

O'Hara said that even though the loss of forces was unexpected, "we can and are accommodating the changes."

Most Georgian troops moved last year from the relatively safe Green Zone in Baghdad to an area southeast of the capital to help interdict supplies allegedly being smuggled to Shiite extremists from Iran. More than 100 remained in Baghdad to help secure the Green Zone.

At least five Georgians soldiers have died in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Some Iraqis welcomed the Georgian withdrawal, saying they're tired of the presence of U.S-led foreign troops.

"God willing, not only the Georgian forces will withdraw but all other troops will leave our country and security and stability will come back to our land," Baghdad resident Ghada Adnan told Associated Press Television News.

Georgia, whose troops have been trained by American soldiers, began an offensive to regain control over South Ossetia overnight Friday, launching heavy rocket and artillery fire and air strikes.

In response, Russia, which has granted passports to most South Ossetians, began overwhelming bombing and shelling attacks against Georgia and Georgian troops.

So Russia has went from trying to defend a rebel province to wanting all of Georgia under their control?

Well, reportedly Russia is shelling Georgia from South Ossetia, and have just bombed Tbilisi's civilian airport. It kinda looks that way.

Russia's arguments were pretty terrible.

The West is arming Georgia. Yeah ok, even though Russia throws weapons at whoever has the cash.

Or this gem.

Russian ambassador said Americans invented regime change and Russia has NEVER supported regime change.

Ok, lets ignore Afghanistan, Poland, Hungry, Romania, Czechoslovakia, East Germany....

Never gave a straight answer, or avoided the questions.

Americans said that they couldn't help Georgia because they would risk ruining relationship with Russia.

I tell you what - the only trouble we can get there is from Russia and US won't help us - it's not healthy to be US ally over there...

Anyway, from what I'm reading, Russians are still bombing.. :|

Russia has continued air raids deep inside Georgia, after it rejected Tbilisi's announcement that it had called a ceasefire and wanted talks.

Russian jets bombed targets near Georgia's capital Tbilisi, including the airport, reports said.

Earlier Georgia said its troops had pulled out of the breakaway region of South Ossetia and Russia was in control of its capital, Tskhinvali.

Thousands of civilians have fled - it is not clear how many have been killed.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told the BBC his forces had observed a ceasefire since 0500 on Sunday morning, but had still been bombed by Russian planes. He said his government had been trying "all day" to contact Russia to discuss a ceasefire.

Peace mission

Russian jets were still carrying out bombing raids late on Sunday. Witnesses said jets had hit Tbilisi International Airport, as well as a military airfield close to the Georgian capital.

A Georgian official said Russian planes had also bombed the western town of Zugdidi and Georgian-controlled territory inside Abkhazia. The claims could not be independently verified.

The attack which reportedly hit the airport came only a few hours before the scheduled arrival of French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, on a peace mission.

Q&A: Violence in South Ossetia

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council began meeting for a fourth day on Sunday to discuss the conflict. It has so far failed to agree on the wording of a statement calling for a ceasefire.

Clashes in South Ossetia itself were reported to be less intense on Sunday, as Russian forces took control and Georgian troops drew back.

Local residents fleeing the area on Sunday morning told the BBC that Tskhinvali was relatively quiet.

Later, however, the BBC's Richard Galpin described a real sense of panic on Sunday night in the Georgian town of Gori, near the South Ossetia, amid fears that Russian troops were about to march on the town.

He had been warned by the interior ministry to leave Gori, only to find that the road to Tbilisi was crammed with cars full of fleeing civilians.

'Disproportionate force'

Georgia's announcement of its ceasefire came in a statement from the foreign ministry, stating that Georgia "today stopped firing in the South Ossetian conflict zone and is ready to begin talks with Russia on a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities".

It said a note had been passed to the Russian embassy in Georgia to that effect.

Mikhail Saakashvili claims Russia has not respected the ceasefire

But a Russian foreign ministry official was quoted by Interfax saying "our information does not confirm the Georgian statement".

"There are indications that exchanges of fire are continuing and the Georgian forces have not been fully withdrawn from the conflict zone," he said.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) called on the parties to the conflict to grant safe passage for thousands of civilians trying to escape the war zone.

The UNHCR estimates that between 10,000 and 20,000 people have been displaced within Georgia, including South Ossetia, while Russia has said that a further 30,000 people have fled north into the Russian province of North Ossetia.

"The conflict has caused civilian casualties and more are at risk," UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said.

"It is essential that humanitarian agencies be able to reach the affected and the displaced."

Meanwhile tensions were rising in Georgia's other breakaway region, Abkhazia.

The leader of the separatist government there, Sergei Bagapsh, said he had ordered a military operation to clear Georgian forces out of Abkhazia's Kodori Gorge, and gave them a deadline to leave.

Georgia has accused Russia of landing 4,000 more troops in Abkhazia via the Black Sea. The separatists said Georgia had deployed a similar number of soldiers south of the Abkhaz border.

The US has described Russia's actions as "dangerous and disproportionate".

US Deputy National Security Adviser James Jeffrey said that if the Russian escalation continued, it would have a "significant" long-term impact on relations between the Moscow and Washington.

Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Russia had violated Georgia's territorial integrity in South Ossetia and condemned the "disproportionate use of force".

The Russian radio station Echo Moscow reported that two journalists, including a photographer for the Russian news agency Itar-Tass, were shot dead by separatists after entering South Ossetia.

RUSSIANS ARE STILL ATTACKING! sad.gif

I been watching CNN and Fox reports on it bro - and despite being very short, they seem as equally propoganda as that RT channel. Medias from both countries seem to be biased in favour of their respective leaders' interestes - maybe to get some tax breaks or some sh*t.

Our media is describing the Russians as inhumane ingrates who got a hard-on for "bombing, burning and injuring civilians", while the Russian media shows the Georgians as women, children and unarmed civilian -murdering villians who reinforce with mercenaries.

As they say, the first casualty of war is the truth, and this is no exception. For the sake of killing ignorance, and saving humanity from more wars, please all take everything you read or hear with a grain of salt. There are NO UNBIASED MEDIA!

Only because it's from your country, don't mean it's the unquestionable, uncensored and unbiased freedom-loving, god-endorsed truth.

Ukraine threatens to bar Russian warships

10 Aug 2008 09:25:09 GMT

Source: Reuters

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Ukraine said on Sunday it reserved the right to bar Russian warships dispatched to the Georgian coast from returning to their Ukrainian base of Sevastopol, Interfax news agency reported.

"Ukraine ... reserves the right to bar warships and vessels which could take part in the action (conflict with Georgia) from returning to Ukrainian territory until the conflict is solved," it said, quoting a Ukrainian Foreign Ministry statement.

Russia's Black Sea Fleet is based in the Ukrainian port of Sevastopol.

LOL of course ships are going to go back AFTER the conflict is solved. Don't see why they would leave the battlefieldsea before that.

He has his good points but he's exceptionally rude. When you run your mouth people are always quite happy to see you fail. And Putin has ran his mouth an awful lot.

Brown asked his to change the Constitution a while back... That is really not a very clever thing to do either. sigh.gif

I hear they bomber the military airport nearby, so that troops from Iraq can't go home and will fly for the rest of their lives turn.gif .

I'm sure no one would support what Georgia did either - I know I don't. Both are killing civilians with blatant disregard with bombings, and Russia is claiming that Georgia killed their peacekeepers first.

IMO both are as bad as each other, and I believe the world leaders are biased and have alternate motives if they all condemn one side and not the other.

Georgia apparantly pulled back it's forces, so it's up to Russia now. But then again, didn't Georgian President promise peace and more idependance to S. Ossetia just before bombing them?

We should send in some like inspectors or UN guys into Tskhinvali to see if Georgia really did pull back. It's ridiculous allowing this war to drag on with one side's words denying the other's.

And Ukraine should not do anything stupid, the last thing we need is something else reigniting the fighting. If they are so concerned, they should stay out of it, till things calm down, then start taking action about humanitaria aid in Georgia. Provoking Russia and starting more fighting will harm the civilians more than if they waited a bit till they start trying to get them humanitaria aid. Bombs will kill people much quicker than starvation.

Living during the Iraq war, the first thing I learnt was the longer a war continues, the more EVERYONE loses.

I have to laugh at the Daily Mail. They're using those fake pictures where they use the same people throughout. They covered up though, by only using one othe pictures.

Also, apparently the oil port of Poti has been destroyed by Russian bombing.

From what I heard from a Russian source, most of the troops have indeed left Ossetia, but there are many snipers and just lone persons left everywhere and there is a group of georgian soldier who were surrounded by Ossetians and they are hiding in the hills and do not want to surrender, maybe because they did not hear the Saakashvili's order, I doubt they have radios or anything.

Russia also claimed its forces sank a Georgian missile boat that was trying to attack Russian ships in the Black Sea, news agencies reported.

I will put in here my personal opinion with which nobody has to agree, obviously.

If nobody reacts to this, Russia will get away with it. They will proceed and take over Georgia. Who knows, they may start going and take over other countries. One thing I know is if we don't stop them now, we will have to stop them later. That's why I want to see a military reaction from other countries right now. I'm not saying it will be worse later - I'm saying it will happen later any way. There is no escape from that. So why not stop them now... we can save some lives possibly.. Of course a lot of people will die... but so they will anyway later. No difference.

I'm really tired of all B.S.

Russia has not bombed Tbilisi. They keep bombing airports and military bases in the region, but other than a single missile that missed its target in Gori, Russia is yet to bomb any civilian city. The only ones shelling civilian targets, to this moment, are Georgians, who have leveled Tskhinvali and destroyed many villages around it.

And I don't buy Georgians saying they withdrew from South Ossetia. If they have, then who the hell is still fighting there? Because reports of fighting in South Ossetia still keep coming in.

Finally, yeah, I'm sure Russian artillery keeps shelling objects beyond South Ossetia from South Ossetia. Ever thought that Georgians might have started that? Sure, it is a brilliant PR move. Get the artillery out of South Ossetia, but keep using it against the occupying forces. Then cry to UN that they withdrew but the big bad Russia keeps attacking.

The whole thing stinks, and the world seems to be happy with just plugging the nostrils and pretending like there is no stink at all, just because United States wants to be buddies with Georgia, and someone in UN has a sandy you-know-what over something that Putin said.

Where was all this world-wide support when United States bombed Yugoslavia? What about US invasion of Iraq? Why is it that when United States puts missiles in Turkey, everything is fine. But when Russia tries to fix the military airport in Cuba, it's the end of the world? When Russia tries to build a missile tracking radar inside its own territory, no, they aren't allowed. But US has plans to put one up in Poland, and everyone's happy about it.

Pick a position on what a country should and should not be able to do. Whatever is the consensus, I'm fine with it. But lets not have double standards, ok?

I doubt anyone considered it to be fine outside of the US, but nobody knew about that until recent years.

Fix a military airport? There were nukes there, not just fixing some airport. Russia also intended to use those when they were operational, not a deterrent.
