spyro_ie
Pwned - A corruption of [owned]. Originated in Warcraft, through a misspelling in the script. When the player lost in a particular mission, the game told the player ‘player is pwned’. Now in common usage as a term to describe defeat at the hands of another player or team. E.g. “They pwned us”.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Another stupid one that seems to be quite common these days is 'f*cktard' What the f*ck is that supposed to mean? I mean obviously it's a bastardization of retard, but that doesn't make it any less stupid
TheSpankerDom
I always thought it was "pawned" before.... Like pawns on a chess game? I thought "pwned" was missing a letter at the time and took it wrong. Back in the warcraft3 mod defense of the ancients when you killed another player you pawned their head, like in a pawnshop or something. A f*cktard is simply a retard that you f*ck. Mainland Marauder
Another stupid one that seems to be quite common these days is 'f*cktard' "These days?" I've been hearing that for years. It's kind of funny. When I first heard "noob," circa late '90s, I thought it was a reference to Noob Saibot from Mortal Kombat II. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be."

Sir Million Knives
Only retards use 'noob' and 'pwn' anymore in my opinion. I for myself use these: noob = f*cktard, retard, dumbass, pile of sh*t or any other snappy word or combination of words pwn = gg / gj / nice
KillerKabel
I find myself using retard pretty often. Even if it's insulting to the true retards who are much smarter than the people I tell it to. It has got a nice cling to it. But usually I just ignore people. Seems to make the really stupid people even more frustrated. Clown is what I use to the younger generation, the ones that I can't say stupid retard to.
Struff Bunstridge
I love that noob used to mean someone who didn't really know what they were doing, or didn't have much experience at something. Now, thanks to kids with huge e-dicks, it's just a standard insult. Incidentally, how do you pronounce "pwn"? Poon? Pwon? I asked this months ago, and no-one knew... HolyGrenadeFrenzy
I read somewhere "PWNED" came from "OWNED", and that in a WoW game (I don't remember which, and I hardly care) a level had a secret that said "owned" but it was mispelled, but whatever. It was probably bullsh*t. Close on the latter but it did come into common phrase online because of these issues.....I will be right back with an edit and some linkies. I went through this whole thread looking for what I already knew the truth was and you seem to be the only one who is actually close. It is entirely based in a WoW error....Quake was another but the dates are up for aurgument of synchronicity for origins so, who knows if it was the continuation of the joke..... if I understand correctly. Old internet joke that has grown into the subculture of internet. Urban Pwn Wiki Pwn I could really go on with the linkies on this topic....there are even a few here on the GTAForums but good luck finding them. HolyGrenadeFrenzy
You just got PAWNED sound much better, IMO. You just got POONED sounds like a nasty bathroom humor of freaking grade school....but then again it is the internet and we know the freaky kids that frequent it. Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
P-own sounds much better than pawn. You got pawned? So, I sold you for cash? Pwned. Although I never use that damn expression or noob for that matter, I prefer rookie or rook.

Rook is a term in chess, so he could say "I chessed you" in return of what you said to him

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Rook is a term in chess, so he could say "I chessed you" in return of what you said to him Ya, but I'm using it as a shortened version of Rookie, so it's all good. Don't know too many people who would reply with that, smartypants.
Danni
I believe it is actually short for "pistol owned," as a term from Goldeneye on the N64. I say 'poned,' which rhymes with 'boned.'
Slamman
Owned is referenced to slavory I think. Anywho, I have been online since 2000, and those terms are new in that time frame. I don't recall Pawned or owned being slung about like slang... However, Newb or Nuwbie is an old one that was likely around back then as well. People weren't impressing each other with 'babytalk' however, even the flamers were somewhat well-spoken
