Tony Mozzarelli 80
I'm guessing that Pwn was originally a typo, and spread from there

greebo-man
I think pwn comes from 'own', and somebody pressed 'p' instead of 'o' 'cause they're right next to each other.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Own, like somebody probably typed you got Pwned, and everybody took the piss out of him, and it just caught on
nutboy
a typo for what word? typo for own. EDIT:missed dang it
Kimd41
I guess "pwner" started from the word "pwned". My guess is that the word "pwned" started by people who wanted to type "owned" but accidentally pressed "P" as it's next to the "O", and so it became popular, later they created "pwner" with the same story. EDIT: Beaten to it, goddamnit!
greebo-man
Yep, 'pwn' is now officially a verb. 'One may pwn', 'I pwned', and 'you were pwning' are all correct grammar.
boothy
AH it all makes sense now, but what about uber?
Wanted Assailant
"Noob.." (Ugh..) derives from the word "newbie" who is someone new to something specific. Those gamers thought those newbies "sucked gobbled balls" because they couldn't play right. Because of the utter lack of proper grammar and spelling, it has evolved from, "newbie" "newb" "noob" ... and currently.. "N00b" because they're too lazy to look for "O" "Pwn" is just a typo a bunch of nitwits that thought it was superb to type it that way when it should be spelled "own". Illiterate freaks. greebo-man
1337... I think it comes from the fact that those digits vaguely resemble letters, and if you substitute them for their latin alphabet counterparts, you get LEET, which I think is the name for when people try and type whole words on their keyboard without using the letters. Only numbers or other characters like > or ).
