El_Venezolano Posted August 9, 2008 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Well, it's been a long time since Ive been here; I cant say I know for sure how many hours Ive spent playing GTA and participating in the community, but whats for sure is that I thought GTA had nothing more to offer me when no PC version of GTA 4 was announced. I remember being sure the anouncement would come around eventually 6 months after the initial release for PS3 and Xbox, but it didn't... I remember making a post in the big "GTA4 for PC?" thread a long time ago, for which I got an e-mail, the post is as follows: Well, my good friends, long time no see... It's been quite some time since I made a post in the forums. I come back for the same reason you're all here, a new GTA. You know, now that a PC port for the new GTA has been questioned, I look back and see the long way we've traversed since the GTA clasics... Just think, our hole comunity, players from all over the world, people of different cultures and backgrounds, gamers, all gathered together thanks to GTA. Rockstar's legecy up untill now has being strong within the gaming comunity. So, if you you ask me... for all the loyalty we've given them... after how we never stoped rooting for them in law suets... after how (insome cases) we defended them in front of our angry parents when all the contravercial news was going around... and all the legal copies we've bought instaed of shoosing piracy because it was a Rockstar Games product... they better dam well realese GTA IV for PC! they owe it to us! I remember making a comment at the main R* web site (Thursday, April 12, 2007 6:05 PM to be exact), stating my loyal fanship to GTA and how Ide hope there were a port to the PC, I almost forgot about that... I remember giving up on GTA all together, after being a loyal fan for so long, but I think I made the wrong choise... Today (Aug. 9), I opened my Inbox and discovered an E-Mail (arrived at Aug 6, 2008 10:08 PM) titled RE: GTA 4, the content was as follows: Hi Ramon, Thanks for taking the time to email and let us know your thoughts about Grand Theft Auto IV. We are proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto IV will be available for the PC on November 18th. Stay tuned to the official Grand Theft Auto IV website in the coming months for more details as they become available. Cheers, Rockstar Games Needless to say, I jumped out of my sit, I coverd my mouth with both hands, held my breath for a momment while going through everything in my head and then felt a smile on my face like a kid who just saw the chrismas presents under a tree. By now you might ask, why am I posting this? Well... I wanted to say to every single person in the community who were atleast once sure GTA 4 will come to PC, to every member of the community, to every one who sent an e-mail like I did, to R* games, to R* developers and to every one who some how participated in making the PC port possible... In all seriousness, I admit that even I too jumped on my seat when I saw a General PC Chat forum up there along with the rest of the GTA IV sub forums. I knew that the dream had finally taken shape. I'm too quite excited with this recent development as most of the other GTA fans around the world. There's no way I'd be doing anything other than playing GTA IV come November 18. However I have been going through all 600+ pages of it recently and it is hilarious reading some of the posts now. I will probably do a compilation of all those people that went "ha ha the PC will never get GTA 4" some time later in the week. Spaceman Spliff Posted August 9, 2008 Share Posted August 9, 2008 I find it so hilarious that many of you all had given up on GTA IV PC.... I've been playing GTA since the first one in 1997 or 1998? Every single major GTA title has been available for PC. And almost every single time, R* has had some silly contract with Sony or Micro$oft that forces the PC release to be delayed a minimum of 6 months after the console release.... I can understand peoples' concern if this was their first time being introduced to the GTA series. But for the rest of the GTA fans who have been with it for the past several years, you knew that GTA IV would come out for PC. Reading that 609 page PC thread was so, so funny--and I didn't bother posting even once.... R* knows that the PC is superior. But they also run a business which dictates their product cycle and release strategies. If you will notice, I did link back to rockstar's website like 5 times. why? page hits. It was like we had a silent agony thread. as long as rockstar saw no traffic from that thread, rockstar didn't know it existed. I know I check my site for heavy traffic, and who is pointing at me. In case there are bad issues that I might be able to resolve. one of the links I posted back to them was pointing out how they changed the platform tag a month ago. "gtaiv out now" to "gtaiv out for xbox360 and ps3" that has always been a clue that more platforms are coming. as apposed to " sony exclusive". but R* got really silent after that and it scared me. Scared me bad. Then mags came out poosting non-official statements and I was sure iy was the photoshop freaks who do things to flame or get traffic to their site. Then came the email from taketwo. I was asleep and did not read it till I got home and checked my email after work. But that was after coming here and seeing the gtaiv pc thread gone, I was beyond crushed. so I whent on with my life and checked my email. :-) then came back wishing I could tell everyone, and was about to post it in the main area, and I notice, a pc section. I think it is important we don't forget that. I even gave up and gave into getting a console and I have been a loyal PC gamer since the Pentium 1 days (still am a loyal PC gamer I can't stand my xbox). However when you look at the situation we had the worry of hot coffee, perceived low sales of GTA SA, rumours of piracy, the non-existence of any new Rockstar games on the PC, lack of conversions for LCS and VCS and just the general media atmosphere that the PC is dead as a dodo. It is no wonder a great deal of people had grave concerns about GTA 4 on the PC. I am obviously deliriously happy that the PC is now getting GTA 4 but I think we should all remember we are NOT out of the woods yet. We need to show Rockstar that the PC is just as viable as every other platform which means BUYING the game. If you want the next GTA on the PC it is of utmost urgency that you BUY this gta. Now that everyone has seen every mission on youtube is it any wonder R*s PC sales are only 2% of its business? Will it be as much fun knowing what its all about, or would it have better to be a fresh game for everyone? And without the DLC that is coming to consoles its still only half a game at full price. GTA4 made me sick of R*s pathetic ripoff ways, far from proud. Charging people double for a game that isnt even up to par with its previous release, SA. pfft... I always thought it would come about. Though we don't know what actual sales figures are it's still piles of free cash on the table at this point - way too tempting for R*/Take2. I echo your sentiments on actually buying the game. Doing the alternative does a great disservice to PC gaming. But, I want to feel some positive vibes/actions coming from R* too. R* simply announcing something that most expected does not make up for their shortcoming/misgivings. They can start with a quality port. Adding extra features would help to, bringing the episodic content, making modding easier, ceasing with the delayed PC releases, etc. would all help. Only R* has the power to win the hearts and minds of the PC gaming community by changing their actions. Truthfully, I think most rational-thinking people (including the gaming press) thought there would be a PC version. Why shouldn't there be? Could be one reason why the press was so quiet as well. PC gaming is far from dead. Gamers are always demanding more freedom and choices and PC gaming offers that like no console can. Consoles will always incorporate (or try to at least) certain PC-like features that trickle down, but they will always be behind. What I'm most excited about now is the not necessarily the game itself, but more about how good it will run and play. What will the differences be? Any exclusive features? It's a great disservice to PC gamers to make them wait, with the worst part being the spoiling of all the details by console fanboys. They need show some more backbone when they say they want to preserve the experience. That's only extended to console gamers I guess. I too left this forum long time back.. It was the hype that messed it all.. When people were waiting for the PS3 and XBOX releases, (cursing R* for delay), i was busy in the "Will it happen on PC" thread.. Then it got a final R date. I was excited when it released and yet i knew it was not for me, cuz i had none of them.. Then somewhere some jerk told me that the PC version for any GTA game will be released only after 1-2 yrs after the console release... I was u know.. HAD GIVEN UP.. I thought ill not be playing it on PC till i finish my graduation. And suddenly, on Aug 9th, some instinct told me that i should visit gta4.net.. And was dumbfounded to see an exact release date for PC.. I dinno what to do.. If i find someone from R*, lots of kisses to him I dunno how else i should express my feelings.. & gratitude.. I once had a list of the most console-fanboyish comments of the thread, but it was only from the first 200-or-so pages, so it would probably be much longer now. Your name cropped up in the thread and you said :- I have a AM2 athlon 64 x2 6000+, 2GB PC5800, and a Geforce 7900. I also do professional 3D work with blender 3D, CS3, and CS3 Nvidia plugins. The normal mapping, shaders, and physics alone would bottleneck my system like crazy. Also look at all the people ignoring the repeated "There will be no PC version" statement by the CEO and the Hosts. I even remember having heated debates with you in IRC with you stating a PC could not run GTA 4. I assume you have changed your opinion now . Still intending to do a name and shame section but not had much time so far. I am up to page 234 but it is tough going. I don't want to ramble on about Mafia 2, but 2K Czech (subsidiary of Take2) makes me proud. They have shown the backbone and class that is severely lacking inside Rockstar. I could only DREAM that R* were more like them. *NOTE my signature. It is out of respect for 2K Czech and their fine work! Just a few reasons why: 1) They are supportive of mods. 2) They didn't water-down the PC version for the sake of consoles. Consequently, the severely underpowered PS2 had a hard time running it. Not only that, but they kept a PC interface and controls. Suits me just fine. All the more reason to leave the serious gaming to PCs. Consoles lack noticeably when they pretend to be something they aren't. 3) Most importantly, SIMULTANEOUS releases. No delayed launch B.S. which not only forces gamers to wait, but also spoils the game with details for many people. 4) Too many other reasons to list. I know this forum is about GTA, but I think 2K Czech serves as an exemplary model of how things should be done when it comes to developing games for EVERYONE, not just for those who throw money at them like you would for a stripper. By the way, the console version should be much better this time around, which will be more than fair for them. To Rockstar... Come on, grow a pair already. You have the leverage with the GTA franchise alone to DICTATE the terms of how you want to develop/release your games. There surely is no reason to be beholden to Sony or Microsoft by now. Who's with me on this? it would be nice, but for some reason i can't see the rockstar boys changing. once immature - always immature. it's like when a bratty kid grows up and doesn't change along the way - they grow into a**hole adults. i wont knock gta4 though. there is more to rockstar then the H's. lots of developers and other people put a lot of work into the game dispite how evil their employer is to them. i am looking forward to it. proud because of rockstar? no. more saddened to think a few people could be that removed from reality. I have been saving money for the game & to upgrade my pc eversince i heard about gta IV.... But some crappy news that it wont be released for PC atleast for 2 yrs from now(or it wont be released at all), like almost depressed me... For me it was better to believe that it wont be released at all, than not knowing whether it ll be released after 1 or 2 yrs... What a mess... I even thought of gettin a console, of which i was aware of its defects.. but im a die-hard GTA lover.. NO other game has impressed me so much... Its really Gr8 to hear the R*s announcement for PC.. R* is for me, its for the people who loves them.. I KNOW.. P.S. : Guys does anyone have the video clipping of Sam Houser announcing the PC version..
