Georgia attacks South Ossetia

Recommended Posts

They were amassing their troops at Georgian border... Aren't their objectives obvious enough to begin with?

I believe the "beginning" means the current war, otherwise your statement doesn't make sence.

I was talking about Russia planning to attack Georgia for a long time, by amassing their troops at Georgian border.

Why is there so little breaking news about this war ... are there no reporters there?  does no one care?  is nobody working/reporting during the summer?

It all seems very slow and frustrating .... and I'm not the person being shot at!  They should be really really pissed - unless they have all the info, but i dout that very much.

Maybe people dont want to be where sh*t could kick off.

Its an old human thing, not wanting to die.

South Ossetia voted in 2006 to remain a 'de facto' independent state from both Russia and Georgia.

Not to mention those Russian citizens were given their citizenship, sounds like a handy dandy excuse to invade.

Face it, Russia set Georgia up.

It doesn't really matter how they were given the citizenship (lol i imaging drunk KGB officers making them take the citizenship by force is that what you mean) so they are still Russian citizens, no matter HOW they were given it.

The Russian 58th Army is stationed in the Cacusus.

It disproves brz59 point then.

Really, there is NO point in doing so. If Russia wanted to take out Georgia it would do so long time ago, or at least yestarday. From what we know it is not Russia's aim to invade Georgia.

That's true, it really annoys me and I think it is way more important than war in Iraq that was broadcasted all the time....

No point? Know about the gas pipeline in Georgia? Would be quite handy for Russia to have it under it's control.

What else? Georgia wants to join NATO and meetings between Georgia and NATO representatives were to take place somewhere in September... obviously Russia doesn't like that and tries to do everything possible to keep Georgia from joining NATO.

Please acknowledge, that everything what Russia does, isn't always right.

@˸øåíüêà: This is about money and land.

The more money and land you have=more power. Russia wants more power.

In time, this could involve a lot of the world, so yes.

Six Ossetians were reportedly killed and 21 injured as a result of one of an intensive shootout in the South Ossetian conflict zone, late on August 1 and overnight on August 2. Both sides have blamed each other for opening fire first.[42]

Sporadic fighting countinued every day and on August 6, there were further shootouts and Georgia acknowledged it had lost an Armoured personnel carrier (APC) during the clashes.[43] After a night of gunfire in which four people died, shelling resumed at daybreak on August 7. Residents were on the move, evacuating vulnerable areas of the South Ossetian capital.[44] Georgia was reportedly moving tanks, artillery and troops to the border with South Ossetia.[45]

Someone mentioned Georgia attacked Ossetia without any notices.. well that person was wrong.

Russia has many more pipelines aroun Georgia. And there weren't any problems so far involving the pipelines.

Many respected NATO members like UK, FRG, France said they don't want any more new members in NATo especially Georgia. USA's opinion doesn't change the situation.

Even though NATO's decision not to give Georgia a MAP at least for now made Russian officials feel better, the NATO communique promising country the eventual membership still angered Moscow.

This is the only pipeline, that doesn't go through Russia and goes from Georgia directly to Western nations.

Not quite, under normal circumstances, its spread all across the Region, in the past months, it sat right there on the Georgian border.

I will stress again, there weren't any problems before. At least not enough to start a war. Andthis picture proves you wrong anyway.

It is a Russian right to defend its citixen whenever they are. Imagine, if american people were attacked, say, in Iran. next day all you army would be there.

Nope.

It's happened before - Americans killed in Iran - and US did nothing. See: Iranian hostage crisis.

There's one sh*tty little pipeline in Russia that's near Georgia...

The big pipeline is what everyone is talking about aren't they??
