-slash
So some of you would be familiar with my S13s, thought I'd let you in on the current process of building mine into a bit of a drift weapon lol. The aim for this particular build is "drift on a budget." Basic lines, basic paint, effective modifications. The current specs: 1990 Nissan Silvia S13 CA18DET Manual 5 Speed T28 Turbo Charger FMIC 3" Stainless exhaust Bosch 040 High Volume fuel pump K&N Pod Filter HSD Fully Adjustable Coilovers Bleed Valve boost controller Dished Steering wheel Boost Guage This is currently what I have to work with. Ooooolllldd interior shot: My immediate plans: Parts to be installed: Square headlights. Cusco 2-Way Differential Blue LED dashlights lol. On the way from around the country/Japan I have coming... • Cusco Safety 21 7 Point Bolt-In Roll Cage • Exedy 5-Puk Heavy Duty Clutch • SR20DET Spec brake rotors and calipers. Once everything I have coming is in, I have a drift day in early September. Then my attention will turn to further engine enhancements. • GTR Injectors • Electronic Boost Controller • ECU Remap Will keep rocking the 1.8 until I blow it up, at which point an SR20DET will be waiting. So yeah, watch this space, hopefully it isn't too boring.

stretch.
Sweeeet, Is the diff lockable at all? or is it gonna be a case of welding the sucker?

Picolini
Very nice! Don't go smashing up the sides, it looks pretty clean right now You'll definitely need some better right kind of rubber, and probably some better rims. Maybe matching ones? lol. This does sound cool and I'll be checking it out as well
lurchseesu420
That interior has got to go. Back seat, carpet, headliner, all the plastic junk, etc. has to go. Need some better lighter race seats too. And when the cage goes in, don't forget the 5 points. Since it's not a DD anymore, I think you can do with out the radio and AC as well. -slash
Yeah those wheels won't last long, I'm not going to spend big dollars on them just yet, I'm buying a couple of pairs of 17s and running Federals on em. Interior will be stripped out mostly, all the sound deadening and etc removed. @stretch: It's a mechanically locked diff already. Stays locked on acceleration and deceleration. Makes transitions easier but isn't as hard on axles like a weldy is.
Kimd41
Sweet, I'll be watching this topic. I love this kind of stuff.
-slash
Kinda forgot I had this topic up! Anyway, no pics or anything interesting like that at the moment, however basically this is what has happened. Put new headlights in. Check. Put new locked diff in. Check. Has to come out again because an axle seal is stuffed though. Took the engine out to give it a clean up, (blew a turbo oil line) had to put a new clutch in too so I figured it would be easier to pull the engine and box out in one piece and do it outside the car. While the engine was out I decided I couldn't be f*cked just puting it back in, so I sold it. Picking up an SR20DET this weekend with a 7,000km old forged bottom end rebuild. Got some shiny new braided turbo lines to plug in. Started stripping out the interior, removed most of the sound deadening tar in the back half of the car with a hammer and chisel. Gotta do the rest of the car and then have my spray painting mate hit it with the gun. Cleaning up the engine bay, getting rid of the stuff I don't need, then dropping the engine in. Can't wait. All in all pretty exciting really. For me anyway. AZAZEL
Looks and sounds very nice, slash. Sexy 3-spokes.
-slash
Haha, definitely not a fan of tri-spokes, but cheap wheels + good rubber I find hard to resist. Ultimately going to get myself a nice set of wide Jap wheels with some good offset, maybe some TE-37s, VS-KFs or Meisters. Hand flared guards and stretched tyres ftw. lurchseesu420
Started stripping out the interior, removed most of the sound deadening tar in the back half of the car with a hammer and chisel. Pretty much did the same thing to the heat insulation on the bug's luggage tray in the back. I cut out everything in the rest of the car that I could with a switchblade though. Although it wasn't the best looking interior and I didn't plan on trying to save anything to sell it later. Oh and stretched tires? Picolini
What the heck is a stretched tire? Anyways, nice update there. Sounds like you've done quite a bit, and a bit left to do. Should make a fun car though, that's for sure.
lurchseesu420
What the heck is a stretched tire? An unsafe and overall bad idea. Basically putting a tire that's smaller than the rim that it's going on. You gotta stretch the sidewall of the tire onto the rim to make it hold the bead. Seems to be popular in the drift scene though. I don't know why they do it. Seems pointless to me. I always thought you were supposed to try and put the widest tire you rim could hold when it comes to performance? Better contact patch. Picolini
Ah, ok. Are they just smaller width wise, or diameter? Google image search makes it look like it's width wise. Looks ok when just the very outer most lip is exposed, but definitely doesn't look smart/safe.

-slash
I disagree that it's dangerous, if you're not using sh*tty sidewalled tyres there's no drama at all. Less sidewall flex too is ideal for drifting. Mostly aesthetics though, stretched tyres on wide rims just squeezing under flared guards is tough. stretch.
Better than seeing 165 on a 10 inch rim. Anyways, providing the rim is beaded and you use decent ply'd sidewalls it should be fine, Fill em with nitrogen rather than air too.

Why not just go down a profile size instead on an appropriately sized rim?
-slash
Some pics of my cushion button clutch, SR20 bellhousing the the swapover process. -slash
Hehe thanks lurch, and will be sure to provide something for you Pico. Got the clutch on and the box attached to the engine today, just gotta drop it in then put my new front mount kit on and wire up the bits which don't quite match! (CA to SR Silvia wiring is a bit different in places!)
-slash
Made some good progress today after finally receiving all the parts I need on Friday. Got my turbo and manifold and lines all on, ripped out my air conditioning (never worked) and the gearbox is now on the engine. Especially happy with that because I did it without the assistance of anyone else, and as those of you who've ever put a gearbox in would know, it's not pleasurable. Anyway the usual pics: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa124/jasek7/P1000161.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa124/jasek7/P1000162.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa124/jasek7/P1000163.jpg Tomorrow I'll get myself a crane and engine should be in by dinner I reckon. lurchseesu420
Good luck, because getting all that swapped into the car is going to be the biggest bitch in the world. sh*t never goes in as well as it comes out. Get ready for a few days of non-stop cursing and wrench-throwing. Edited October 18, 2008 by lurchseesu420
-slash
Yeah I know. Mechanically, everything bolts up. Uses same mounts, gearbox cross member, etc. The biggest issue is the wiring, in particular the engine loom and dash harness plugs are different. There will be a lot of swearing. kevin2006rhs
Wiring diagrams are a beautiful thing to have. But who needs that when you can have youtube walk you through everything Either way...if your car goes missing, its me. Sorry bro. BTW...did you get in yet? WTF? All the talk around the private areas about you have me wondering how far along you are to getting in.

So is it just a matter of splicing the SR20DET wiring harness with the CA18DET wiring harness? I honestly haven't a clue about much in wiring or electronics, especially swapping an efi engine with a different efi engine.

More or less yeah, I made the mistake of selling all my CA18DET stuff so I can't take bits from that loom, ah well. @Kevin: No idea mate! Hopefully soon. Also, here's my update for now. Pretty excited. Managed to f*ck up my pic of the engine in the car and blur it up. Didn't realise at the time. Ah well, you guys get the point.
