faktion_207
This is mainly a question for people who know about serbian or to people who are from Serbia How good is Michael Hollick's fake serbian? Has he done excellent work, or can you slightly hear his American accent whenever he speaks in serbian to Roman, Florian, Darko, etc.?
BlOoDStReAm101
Eh...Darko is the only one who speaks good Serbian. Niko, Florian and Roman all speak it horribly slow like a defused robot. So no, he didn't do such a good job.
faktion_207
That's funny, because it seems the actor who does Darkos voiceover is just as american as the others are thanks though
GTA3Freak-2001
My Croatian friend mentioned that Niko's Serbian was alright but not great, granted he only heard it a few times when he played the first few missions.

Darko didnt sound serbian at all. Yes he did. Do you even speak Serbian? It sounded more better than Niko's, Roman's and Florian's Serbian put together. Florian's was worse. "Ruuuuuuzniiiiiiiii Russsssii"
Tony Mozzarelli 80
I think Niko sounds more Russian than he does Serbian
Stefan.
Michael Hollick was just putting on an accent; he wasn't bad, but it's obvious to tell. Our accents are not that retarded. I still haven't heard Florian speak. How does he speak?
Mr Coffee Cup
Michael was a good pick for the game.
mkey82
I think Niko sounds more Russian than he does Serbian OK, I'm from Croatia and Serbia is pretty near. Niko doesn't use typically Serbian sentences, those expressions are Croatian. Nikos accent is Russian. So, Niko is a Serb who speaks Croatian with a Russian accent. = LAME This is not a Hollick issue, it's a R* issue. They are lazy and haven't prepared at all. They probably don't know where Serbia actually is geographically located. I'm not saying Croatia or Serbia are big countries everyone should know all about, BUT if you intend to put a Serbian character in your game for god sake do some research. macorules94
well im yugoslavian and all i can tell you is that they all speak it horribly. I could not stop laughing wen i was doing that mission where you have to drive a boat with Florian to hove beach....and when he was looking through the binoculars...he said "Ruzhni Ruski" which means ugly russians....BUT... the way he pronounced the 'R' is like the english way....the european way is wayy different

Tony Mozzarelli 80
I doubt thought people were going to think so hard into this. Yes but if you were a fan from the Balkan region, you wouldn't have to think hard about it, it would be a glaring thing. Don't you think you would notice it if they had a dodgy English accent or a dodgy American accent?
Fnorg
No, it wasn't all that good. After spending ten days in Monte Negro I can say it's not (They speak Serbian, even if they don't call it that. I speak Bosnian, it's a bit slower... I think) . I had to ask people to repeat what they said three times until it was clear to me. Yeah, I'm pretty dim-witted, but three times? Am I that stooped? Mute Giant
Of all people who have played GTA IV, how many do you think are familiar with the serbian language? Not very many. They could of corse have spent more time and money to make Holleck pronounce the words better, but I doubt it would be worth it. The point of introducing the serbian language to the game was to make it more realistic and create that "immigrant feel". It might sound extremely stupid to the serbs, but for the rest of us it wouldn't matter if Holleck talked serbian perfectly or like a hippie on opium. It would have sounded ok for all of us
