Girish
Could you run GPU-Z and post the screendump here? I'm curious to know what this Xpress 200 chip is. I tried all the available mirrors and some other sites too, but the download just freezes at 92%. Now, I have been having some download problems, but why would it freeze at the exact same point over and over again? Anyways, can you direct me to an online version of something like GPU-Z, if it exists?

Slamman
Anyone, Noone? My PS3 remains offline and with the GTA4 firmware update only, sadly. My GeForces are all old, and my Radeons are typically old too, you guys know I'm old tech that's new to me. (My one PCI Express card I just looked up, ATI RV370 -X300/X550 series- model GPU) I think it would be worthy saying a few old computer clusters, or "clouds" could also do these tasks rather then being discarded, so keep that in mind, kids. Girish
Rapidshare, will that work? Nopes, still the same thing. I think the problem's at my end. I'll call up my ISP and inform them about it. As soon as it gets sorted out, I'll post it over here. Edit: Ok, I managed to get hold of an older version. Datalord
You have an Xpress card which I always thought was an integrated graphics card and therefore no good for folding. Only your CPU can fold. I'll wait for jallars expert opinion on graphics cards. Help medical research with your PC and PS3 | Support GTAF [email protected] |
jelly
Well that's not supposed to be able to fold on the GPU2 client. GPU2 requires a GPU with a unified shader architecture, as you can see it has separate pixel and vertex pipelines. It doesn't support ATI CAL (or whatever it is they use for the current client) as far as I know. Take a look in the log and see what it actually says. Mine is a 300 PCI-Express, so it's higher power but at the obvious low end of Radeons for the new, faster slot, Yours is internal, I believe, so it's really lacking in memory, but GPU clock is in the 300Mhz range,

As far as I know, DX10 (Unified Shader Architecture) cards also display separate Pixel and Vertex shader counts (same number though) in GPUz, or at least the version he is running. Also, All ATI cards from the x1900/x1600 series of cards have always been able to use the GPU client, That is based off them, so it can run it. I think the 780G might be able to run it, but at that point the CPU accompanying it might be faster. All info I can find on the Xpress 200 indicates that it's a separate pipeline DX9 graphics chip. As a general rule, to run [email protected] GPU2 today you need a DX10 capable graphics chip.
Slamman
I use DirectX 9C and it is supported on the Radeon in question, I was assuming I read the 200 series was onboard in this case. The card is an entry model at $20 to $30 nowadays, though under $100 when new.
Girish
Wait a minute. [email protected] GPU2 client shouldn't run on my PC? What the hell am I running then? Or is it just my CPU that's making the client work?
Slamman
^ You did say it was integrated video, didn't you? I know some laptops do, as mentioned, but in the Dell series, these unplug and are only piggybacked. I saw a 9600 Radeon (IIRC) that also mates to the D800 I bought, and both card options are 128MB. Not too bad, in reality...considering it dates to mid 04.

I have uploaded it here. @Slamman: Yeah, it's an integrated one. And the maximum memory that it supports is 128MB. So, finally, should I have it running or not? It hasn't been a problem so far, but I just want to be on the safer side. Currently, it's on 500/2500 frames completed.
jelly
That is some really strange stuff, I mean, evidently it's working. But searching for Xpress 200 only gives me those specs. I'm going to shoot them for naming different chips identically, I swear. Not even a code name to help people along. Such a shame the newest GPU-Z doesn't work. Maybe just ask in the folding forum what exactly is going on?

kingvercetti
So I've come across a problem. I completed and sent off two 25000 thingy units perfectly fine, now I have two completed but stuck in the queue and won't send and the thing is hanging on "Attempting to get a work packet", the log file saying "Failed to contact work server (Error 503)" or something along those lines. Edit: [19:40:07] - Couldn't send HTTP request to server [19:40:07] (Got status 503) [19:40:07] + Could not connect to Work Server [19:40:07] - Attempt #6 to get work failed, and no other work to do. Datalord
I get that all the time, don't worry it'll eventually go through. I've just upped my Athlon 3500+ (2.2) to a 3800+ (2.4) by modifying my CPU multiplier to 11*220Mhz or something as opposed to 11*200Mhz. I have no idea what I did, I just read a forum where someone did it, it seems to be stable and runs at 48 Deg C, 1 degree increase on stock fan, though I don't expect it'll help me that much. Looking at FahMon I might have shaved an hour and nine mins off this WU. Anyone care to explain in dummies terms what I just did Help medical research with your PC and PS3 | Support GTAF [email protected] |

Waiting before retry. I think Stanford is having some problems with their servers today, becasue I just looked at the log file for the GPU client and it's been having trouble sending WUs back all day. They eventually go through, but it's slowing my gpu's production down. @Data - You didn't change the multiplier but you did increase the front side bus (FSB). If you overclock the FSB enough, then you will have to adjust the ratio of your memory:FSB in the BIOS depending on what speed your memory is. Provided you have an unlocked cpu multiplier, then you could just move the multiplier up to 12 and get to 2.4 that way as well.

Datalord
The mulitpliers are apparently locked on either my CPU or Mobo. Help medical research with your PC and PS3 | Support GTAF [email protected] |
jelly
The mulitpliers are apparently locked on either my CPU or Mobo. Nearly all CPUs have locked multipliers. All you can do is to change the reference clock like you've already done (yours is an Athlon 64, right, it doesn't have an FSB if it is).

I guess the memory divider might not come into play with that, but I have no experience with Athlon overclocking.
jelly
You need to consider the memory controller's frequency but seeing as it's on the die and has nothing to do with the system bus it's different. It's not really a 'divider' but the concept is similar. This chart uses deprecated terminology (FSB, divider) but it's still informative.
Datalord
Yep I have an Athlon 64 3500+ Venice. I don't even think that I can take the multiplier down. I don't see how taking it down would help, would that just make it slower? I'm not even sure I've seen all that much difference with this current overclock, I think I may, although not sure, have taken 5 mins of processing a TV show to DVD. I'm also not even goign to pretend to understand the chart jallar posted, I need to make sure I know what all the terms mean.
