Could be. But I doubt it. Planes in GTA IV isn't necessary because the city isn't that huge than in San Andreas. In San Andreas there was a huge amount of wasted space which was a good thing considering that you can actually land the thing on the ground. If there was planes in IV, there'd be practically no place to land your airplane but the runway. And of course an asshat like Jack Thompson would say that IV was created so that gamers can do suicidal attempts by crashing into a building with a plane (referencing the 9/11 attack).

I honestly can't believe this is actually still in debate. You need to give it a rest. It never had anything to do with 9/11. But you people are so stuck on this "tragedy" that you have to associate it with everything that happens in the world. Never mind the fact that we as a country were not by any means innocent. I do still hope they would of made Alderney bigger, since it's not apart of Liberty City it's meant to be New Jersey (Mainly the shoreline and Jersey City area) if they made Alderney more bigger they could of included another Airport, smaller than the one in Dukes, but still a quick way to get across the entire map.

In the United States the government doesn't control what's in games. The only thing politicians remember about San Andreas is Hot Coffee. The reason anything is not in GTA IV is because the things that are in the game took all the time Rockstar had and anything else that might have been added was cut if it wasn't going to get finished or good enough. It's silly to think planes are a special issue when there are so many other past GTA vehicles missing from IV. Bicycles and Police motorcycles are things that would make more sense to have than planes, when the game is a sprawling city with one airport.

nah, gta has always been like that. the black helicopter (cant spell name) moves really fast. most of the time you can always see the important stuff. any way when your traveling that fast you cant really see detail.

OMG i hate those trees in country in gta sa. I flew into them so many time! they never loaded fast on the ps2. just fine on pc.

Setting a game in New York (or a city based on New York as Liberty City is...) is always going to raise these types of questions given what happened on 9/11...it's only natural that people think RockStar excluded planes because of this.

 

Anyone who posted a video of CJ flying a plane into a building in Los Santos or San Fierro (or did it in the 'comfort' of their own home for their own amusement) while playing San Andreas ought to be beaten in their sleep because that's just plain sick...but these instances are not the reason why planes wern't included in GTA IV.

 

It's simply down to the fact that there is only one city in the game (two if you include Alderney), or at least there's only one Airport and this means that controllable planes basically have nowhere to fly to. RockStar went for realism in this game and I can see no real reason why planes would ne needed in this game so that in my opinion is why planes wern't included, nothing really to do with 9/11.

My first reaction to the exclusion of airplanes/jets as well, but I released that there were no parachutes, so a jump-landing isn't possible, and since the city is alive in every spot (pretty much), planes aren't needed.

 

I do think that police on motorcycles, bicycles (please, at least just the BMX, make the park useful), or even a skateboard could have been interesting. Meh, we'll see what the DLC brings.

IMO there are two real reasons

1) the town is just not large enough. You can fly from one end to the other in a heli in less then one minute. So where would you go in a plane?

2) The game engine just can not handle it. It has enough issues as is, forget about flying in a plane.

 

And this reason about not being able to land anywhere - this may be true, there are only a few places you could possibly land, BUT who wants to land anyway? I landed maybe 20% of planes I flown in SA. You have a parachute - use it (that is, if planes were in game,I assume parachutes would also be there) and let the plane go it's merry way.

 

Besides, there is a lot of water. They could have included the Dodo like in VC.

The planes were nerfed in SA too, to try and prevent pop-up, they have a 168mph speed limit. You ned trainers or hacks to remove this limit. Flying low around SA at over 1000mph is not recommended.

You can only imagine how bad the pop-up trees and building are.

They would probably do the same for IV if it had any planes, they would be nerfed. In fact you will notice the Jumbo probably allready is, you can catch up with them in the helis.

There are handling lines for some aircraft in the files including one for the Dodo and another for one called Fighter, sadly there are not in the game.
