GTAaddictforever
What happened over at Rockstar? Where is the magic touch from previous GTA's that we knew and loved? Where has the 'fun' gone? Why does GTA 4 feel the GTA : The Sims? Did they hire new employees over at Rockstar because the old ones quit? Was it because of the DLC? Anybody know what the hell happened? anybody else SUSPICIOUS it's the DLContent? Edited July 19, 2008 by GTAaddictforever
Capricornus
What happened over at Rockstar for them to release the failure known as GTA 4? Where is the magic touch from previous GTA's that we knew and loved? Where has the 'fun' gone? Did they hire new employees over at Rockstar because the old ones quit? Was it because of the DLC? Anybody know what the hell happened? Hmmmm. Well at this point, whether the game failed or not, I doubt they care. They got over half a billion dollars in sales from it. Hell, I wouldn't care either. GTA IV was a good game for me though. Don't play it as much now (Thanks to the awsome MGS 4), but it was a good game. I'll admit that it could have used some things, but it was good. merlinsteele
I'm not really sure what happened, but it almost seems like graphics were given over for content, I don't know. I do still enjoy the game, but part of me does feel like it could have been better in a lot of ways. I'm still searching for new things and new places, and I do enjoy the graphics and the cars. But yeah, I think when you say DLC, there must be something to that.
GTAaddictforever
The only reason that got all that money from GTA 4 sales is because everyone bought it due to San Andreas kicking so much ass. GTA 4 is going to kill the GTA franchise. the next GTA will not be bought by the casual gamers who loved the other GTA's and went out and bought GTA 4. they won't care. rockstar lost them. they lost hardcore gamers too, in people like me, who can't f82jsdking believe how sh*tty this game turned out to be. Saints Row 2 is going to come out as the next-gen GTA with multiplayer and a lot of fun things to do, and it's going to kill GTA. sigh

I mean, GTA, the name alone is widely popular and impactful to some that the name alone persuades people to go out and by the product. People antcipate things and can't wait to get their hands on it, so they will get it. Not to mention that GTA has a huge fanbase. The fact of the matter is this: It's a GTA game, so it's gonna sell, regardless. GTAaddictforever, I am damn sure not going to bash you at all because I respect one's opinion and peolpe are indeed entitled to it. So you don't have to worry about that. As for SR 2, well I honeslty cannot judge it right now. Yeah I have seen vids of it, but that's not enough. Hell, anything's possible. This game could be a lot better than GTA IV, then again it may not be. Who knows?
Mr. Someguy
GTA:SA was more like GTA: The Sims than anything else. My only problem with GTA4 is AI problems and some broken features (cannot use police computer to call for backup while on a mission). Oh, and the lack of a Police Uniform that we could use to help cops without getting in trouble. Edited July 19, 2008 by Mr. Someguy
angryjessman
i wish they made it more addictive, some of th best old games can still be played for hours, without flashy graphics cos they were smartly made TETRIS LEMMINGS WORMS (I REMEMBER MAKING FORTS WITH GIRDERS AND TUNNELING WITH THE BLOWTORCH, AWESOME) PACMAN CHESS ETC
poast
I don't think they failed. I thought San Andreas was more of a fail than IV, personally, at least when I DID hate San Andreas. When I hated San Andreas, that was a terribly long time ago. I've never hated IV really.
mr_bungle
GTAaddictforever, do you actually do ANYTHING other than bag out GTA 4? If you don't like it, go play some Squids Row.
FrozenFire
Dear lord he's here again. Welcome back. Tell me GTAaddictforever....what do you do. I mean, what do you have to do in your spare time? You have friends, I'm sure. Don't you want to go outside, hang out with friends, and do productive things instead of wasting your time here on a forum, to try and convince people that they hate a game, just because you do? Now I'm not saying you don't have every right to do that, I'm just questioning your motives. What do you gain from this? Do you just want everyone to agree with you? To think like you? Can you accept that people actually enjoy GTA IV for their own reasons? I'm sure you can. But the amount of time you've spent bashing this game in the past is really phenomenal. Totally understandable that you could be disappointed with this game, but...that should be the end of it. Return it, buy something else, play it, and go on with your life. But you insist upon wasting yours and our time trying to convince us that this game is sh*t? Maybe you just have more free time than me...but If I dislike a game, I don't stalk fan forums, and try to recruit haters to join my legion of flaming. There are much more fun things I could be doing. Which brings me to this...If GTA IV is so boring to you, how is browsing this forum looking for an opening to bash it any more fun? I'm sorry for this long-winded post, I'm just really in awe at your negative attachment to GTA IV. But in direct response to your original question. Why did Rockstar fail? I don't know, because I don't think they failed. Surely it's a fact that GTA IV was a success, considering the amount of money they gained from it. That's really all business is about. I look forward to reading your response to this, if you do. I really am interested to know. Edited July 19, 2008 by FrozenFire

FrozenFire
Why did Rockstar fail with GTA 4? Why do you fail with life? Now now, let's try not to be instantly aggressive. He didn't insult any of us here, so let's keep this clean for as long as possible. He's got an opinion on this game, and so do you. He's stating his, you can state yours. EDIT: Hey man, you've been watching your thread for some time I see, but not responding, what gives? Waiting for something? I look forward to reading your response to this, if you do. I really am interested to know. look at the amazing world Liberty City is in GTA 4. now look at the features. bowling, DARTS LOLWTF?!, pool, in-game television LOLWTF?, cabaret comedy shows LOLWTF?, friends feature going on dates with guys to get them to like you LOLWTF?.....fake internet.......... fake internet was not bad, but it's an 'extra' feature, a side dish. it's not supposed to be part of the main course. the missions are all repetitive. they suck. think of what GTA COULD have had........with the amazing liberty city..... bank robberies....... store robberies....... muggings........ extorting business owners...... really fun features like parachutes and stuff...... flamethrowers and monster trucks......... working IN the mafia until you become a 'made' man, you have to go out into Liberty City and earn 300,000 on your own however you want to before a time limit runs out to pay the mob boss and go up the ranks.......etc..... random assassins trying to put a 'hit' on you while you play the game and travel around Liberty city....... you walk out of a building and bam, a sniper bullet whizzes by your head......etc.....this could be completely random and rare and can never end..... you can then either KILL HIM or catch him and intimidate him by beating him up to tell you where his boss is, then you get his boss location by going to police computer on your own, and bam, you go to his house and kill him to get the HIT CONTRACT off your head. this could happen randomly whenever you kill a pedestrian that belongs to a gang or something....... fun 'I am Legend' zombie type mode and riot/zombie pedestrian cheats...... instead....... we get darts. doesnt that make you sad? I love gta. i am still mourning. a great, great game is an amazing and fun experience that I always remember. playing Ocarina of Time, Star Wars Knights of the Old republic, the first GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, etc......... GTA 4, with all the lack of cool fun features taken out, and lame boring LOLWTF? features included, I was hoping AT LEAST THE storyline missions would be epic. but even that failed hardcore. if you are a GTA fan like me, you would feel very disappointed and bummed out you could have had an amazing game like previous GTA's WITH MULTIPLAYER! to keep you entertained for years. those things are irreplaceable in life. and rockstar failed us big time. remember, it's just a damn video game. we want to have fun. gta 4 was boring as hell. FrozenFire
In response to GTAAddictforever: I've been a longtime GTA fan, but I guess I just liked it for different reasons than you. I've always just loved exploring the map, racing around in the vehicles, and taking in the atmosphere. I've never been one for the little minigames, so I guess that's why I'm not disappointed with IV. I didn't find the missions any more repetitive than any past GTA, personally. Now I'm sure you can come back at me with a huge list of things you found repetitive, and that's cool. They're just things I didn't notice. So yeah, I'm sorry this iteration has steered away from the things you enjoyed about it. I know how it feels, I've experienced it with other things. But at least you can look forward to the future, and at least have faint hope that it will once again have things you enjoy. If not, well you've always got Saints Row 2, which I admit looks promising.
GTAaddictforever
SO rather than rebutting his argument, you make his point more solid. You state that in order to consider yourself a true fan, it is necessary to hate GTAIV. Then you conclude by saying that it's just a video game and it's no big deal, if so then stop coming here and bringing everybody down because it's pointless and annoying. i said "if you are a gta fan LIKE ME" obviously you are not like me. you like the game for different reasons. im a different gta fan than you are, and you know why? because rockstar added tons of stuff for EVERYONE to have fun on GTA. 'Sand box' remember? now they alienated a lot of players with gta4. Edited July 19, 2008 by GTAaddictforever

FrozenFire
well, I would still like to know if ANYBODY knows what happened? did rockstar run out of time? new employees? what happened? rockstar NEVER did this sort of this before, so it is odd and I am wondering what happened The only FACTS that happened are this: -New console -New engine That's all we really know, and just those two factors alone are big speedbumps in the making of a game. It's their first time making a major project using these things, so of course their first try might be a little iffy. It's like an artist using MS Paint for a decade, and then one day they're asked to make a work of art using Photoshop. You need to try a few things before you start really understanding things fully. Which is why I say you should have more hope in the next one. THEN, you'll see Rockstar start to shine. Edited July 19, 2008 by FrozenFire
GTAaddictforever
i see. well rockstar never let us down with previous gta's, so i am inclined to believe the next GTA will be kickass again. i hope. however, i do suspect that the DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT is going to maybe be a solution? i mean why would the helo pilot at the helitours talk about base jumping from skyscrapers ? why not include a parachute for PLAYERS to do it?!?! VERY SUSPICIOUS dont you think? there has got to be a reason.
FrozenFire
I'm personally not putting too much thought into DLC. It will be what it will be. It might be some awesome things like that, or it may just be more of the little missions that they've already talked about, with a few extra things. Nobody but Rockstar knows. And I think this thread really explains what GTA IV is to the series. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=362333 They built it from the ground up, just as they did with III. It takes time to achieve greatness. Edited July 19, 2008 by FrozenFire
