Slamman
Heck, before there was VHS or BETA, before you were, perhaps, even born, there was LaserDisc, at the time, MCA was calling it something else; DiscoVision then Laservision as Pioneer took over production of players as well as software, for many a year, in the 1970s, DiscoVision struggled out of a new, never before seen tech, to become a worthy opponent to videotape, why?? You can't record on it. You spend more to get it. You have to flip the discs, or change them if too long for one disc...well, It came down to how you wanted your movie preserved and if never rewinding or cueing tapes meant something to you, and first and foremost, if you wanted the best out of your home watching experience. Of course Betamax was the first true home taping unit, largely used for movie software as well, and as it happens, the best taped experience one could get, forsaking length for quality, taping faster meant more inches of tape for more information storage, which equated to less time per content on a tape. LDs held 30 minute to 60 minutes a side, due to two speeds employed; CLV and CAV. Digital Stereo sound was first found on optical 12 inch discs, so you had the best analog video in town and stereo audio sound tracks.. Digital PCM Redbook audio, the same 16 bit audio used for CDs, became the standard on all LDs. I had a list of films to start this but the thread locked up and cleared, so I had to start over, I will get to a listing of movies worth checking out that came to Laserdisc first, while waiting for a DVD to come became a bit of a gamble for us movie collectors!! papanesta
What!? Do me a favour, ponder before you make a topic/post; will members on the forum care about my topic/post? Because I can guarantee you, nobody cares about this. Try living in the present for once, Oldmman. Locked.
