Slamman
I happened to be testing my latest DVD equipped widescreen Dell with the making of Star Wars on used DVD I picked up only weeks back, I never had seen this before! I haven't even seen the remade version of Episode 4, but I recall our family going to the original about 4 times or so. The Making Of still feel very stimulating and interesting and even though I am not a big Sci-Fi fan, this movie did bridge the gaps that haunted it during production, the believability that Lucas imparted. Is there really anything that ever captured the magic of the original Star Wars.... I enjoyed the sequels I did see, but that movie in it's theme and comedy, imagination, cast, sounds, stands alone still. -B

Slamman
One of the things you are made aware of is the trouble on an untested vision being made that Star Wars was, getting it produced on budget and time, then going into the sequel with a new director, can it live up to the needed premise? I think even the Phantom Menace has enjoyable elements and I paid $100+ for the import LaserDisc, which I still possess!
tuff_luv_capo
I read the first post about 4 times and I still don't understand the question. IMO 6>5>3>4>2>1 EDIT- If you're asking if there is another sci-fi movie that is as epic a story and solid in its foundation and universe as the Star Wars saga, the answer is a laughable "no." Slamman
Dude, I think you basically ENDED that as I suggest, however, it is not in the form of a question, for the most part. I can only relate how I feel about it. I know some don't care for Star Trek or Star Wars, and typically, I don't favor Sci Fi for my entertainment but this movie, and the characters, even more so, really were worth the personal Hell GL went through to see his project made. No where in the DVD documentary did they mention he made Star Wars because he wanted to influence the genre to become what it could be, to inspire others to make movies in the same way, the kind he wanted to see and felt weren't out there to enjoy. He pulled it off with aplumb, needless to say! But I say it anyway!

Slamman
Yeah, what of it! Calling me out, beeaaattcchhh?!?! haha Let's not drag this fine thread down.... I'm off to bed. All I am stating is the original Star Wars is simply amazing when you watch how it came together. I bought only the bonus disc from the 4 disc DVD collection, as it was sold, but it documents all the films in production, not just the first. It felt like a marathon watching it all but still makes me clamor for the films now. I had SWs on LD but sold it a few years back to get cash... I had wanted the big LaserDisc box for some time, but you'd likely ask "Which One?!?" It's true there were several to choose from!!

Thanks to the crappy prequels and God awful "restoration" Lucas has done. Boba Fett with a sh*tty Australian accent and horrendous delivery... exactly what that character needed! Why can't he just release the original 3 movies, clean them up a bit and be done with it?

Andyzoot
Why can't he just release the original 3 movies, clean them up a bit and be done with it? Exactly. That's all that is needed, it's a shame that Lucas has to bring out more and more stuff from the Star Wars archive to line his pockets. I mean I see that they've released action figures of concept art characters from the first movie. Star Wars doesn't need all the changes done to it in 1997 and 2004, just a bit of cleaning up and that is all there is to it then he can leave it forever...although I did like that they changed Palpatine's appearance in Episode 5 to Ian McDiarmid. 4>5>6>3>1>

Creed Bratton
Is this about remaking the original trilogy or something?
master ED
The only good thing about the Star Wars special edition is that they added Ian McDiarmid to the scene in Empire Srikes Back (somebody already mentioned that...). That makes sense...adding Hayden Christensen to the final scene of Return of the Jedi (Anakin's ghost) is the worst thing that Lucas ever did!!! Yes, I know that Lucas was the producer of "Howard the Duck", but this is worse...Howard the Duck is a potential Academy Award Winner in comparison to Hayden "worst villain in the history of Hollywood" Christensen. Anyway, I don't like to talk about the new movies too much, it's obvious that I do not like em (Revenge of the Sith was watchable as long as that damn Hayden didn't appear on-screen)! The old trilogy is a masterpiece in every aspect. The outcome has had tremendous effects. Lucas basically started his own Hollywood - ILM, THX, Skywalker Sounds, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Lucas Arts! He invented merchandising and earned his share on any single object that had the STAR WARS logo on it...he's a terrible director, but he's one hell of a business man. My guess is that Star Wars happened by accident...it's obvious that he was not happy with the result (the special editions are the proof). The magic was a result of that accident. It is the "unfinished" version of the original that the fans adore the most, it is that imperfection that grabbed our attention! And we still could not figure out how they filmed the scenes in space...that is cinema! Now they bomb us with CG in every damn movie or tv ad that we watch...Effing CG, it started with Dinosaurs, now we generate human beings, wait until they relive Humphrey Bogart starring alongside Charlize Theron. This is too much! That's where the magic went...it disappeared in a cloud of CG-dust somewhere between 1994 and 1999 and hasn't been seen since then! Creed Bratton
I kinda agree. The original trilogy was really a masterpiece. I think you will all agree that the death of Darth Vader was one of the greatest movie scenes ever. I dont like the new prequel trilogy at all. The first one was kinda cool, but Hayden just ruined everything. that kid cant act or sh*t. I also dont understand why they need to remake old version. It would be like adding color to black and white movies. It is pointless and stupid. It ruins the experience. And I always liked the game stories more then those in the movies. I dont know why. And the characters were a lot more cool and badass

tuff_luv_capo
My guess is that Star Wars happened by accident... If it was an accident, he was pretty lucky that he placed international merchandising rights for the movie ahead of time. Anyways, I don't know what every has against the new movies. Sure, the little kid in the first one was annoying as f*ck, the gungans were retarded, and the whole movie was essentially a pod race that no one cared about littered with horrible comic relief, but if anything the Maul/Obi Wan/ Qui-Gon duel was pretty epic. Then there's the second one, focusing more on Anakin. Hayden and Ewan both shared some bouts of bad acting, but you have to remember, they're standing on absolutely nothing but a blue screen. No environment, sounds, feeling at all. There's nothing really memorable about Attack of the Clones, just a lot of action sequences, but no real strong scene. The yoda fight was cool, but that whole ordeal was over in less than 2 minutes. Now the third one, is my favorite of the prequels. The reveal of Palpatine, the beginning of Darth Vader, the epic Obi-Anakin fight. The whole feeling, when the order 66 was called out and Yoda realized how things were.
