Graphics in GTAIV

no one seems to have brought this up. I said before in other posts that gta has always had a slight framerate problem but this new one is just significantly worse, to the extent that it has a major effect on gameplay. isn't there anyone who notices this but me?

opinions.

I watched some live feeds, yeah I noticed bad framerates, which is another reason to bring it to the PC.

sure having it on the pc would be great but there are other games that operate at a much higher framerate than iv on next gen consoles. is there a reason why rockstar chose to have it operate at a low framerate.. I mean can't it go higher?

Actually you'll find that this has been brought up numerous times. But to be honest with you.

It's never bothered me, i've never noticed it to the extent that it's had any adverse effect on

my gameplay. I think the graphics are really top notch when you consider all the stuff on

screen at any one time. All the little things like framerate and the odd pop-up issue i can just

overlook

Moan, moan, moan...

I'm amazed that anyone frequents these forums since it appears that almost every other thread is a 'List your complaints/What did Rockstar leave out/Why do I still live at home when I should get a job?' themed topic.

P!ss off somewhere else angry.gif

So that's your opinion on the graphics in GTAIV is it?

It doesn't really matter what I think of the graphics (or anything else relating to the game really), I'm saying that from what I've seen of these boards most people seem to spend their time bitching about the game.

If it's so poor, there are plenty more games out there and other forums to visit.

That's it

But this being a forum to discuss GTAIV you will get people's opinions on the game.

Many of these will be ones that are contrary to your opinions, so that's the point of

discussion. You are given a forum through which to express your opinions. So if

somebody is saying something negative about the game, you are free to disagree

with them, but trying to silence any dissenting voices is just an exercise in futility.

Many people will disagree with you, and they are free to do so. Furthermore this is

the very place where it is appropriate for people to give their opinions on GTAIV. So

let people have their opinions, and either disagree with them or don't. That's the only

advice i can give you

f*cking hell, what makes you say GTA:IV has a worse frame rate then other GTA's? Look at San Andreas? If anything there is hardly a frame rate issue in GTA IV.

Nothing wrong with discussion.

What I find amazing (and this goes for a lot of other aspects of life today, not just gaming) is that GTA is a truly amazing thing, not perfect by any means but excellent in many respects. Kids (and I'm generalising but pretty much 'most' kids) are totally spoilt these days and really don't appreciate what they've got.

I posted a few days ago about a game that I played endlessly back in the 80's and by today's standards it was crap. I didn't worry that I couldn't wear fingerless gloves or that once I'd completed the missions I was a 'bit bored'.

Yeah, you're right, forums are for debate but for Christ's sake appreciate what you've got (and for what your parents no doubt paid for...) biggrin.gif

But the thing is things have moved on since the eighties, so it's only natural for people

to expect more. And the thing that bothers people, is that the IV contains less content

than the game which was out 4 years ago. so instead of progressing with the times, it

has taken a step back as far as gameplay goes. As far as graphics and physics and things.

yes it is a great leap forward. But as you said, we've never needed that to have fun in the

past. All you needed was gameplay.

I think that's the only problem. We were fine with pretending and using our imaginations more

back then because that's all we could do, given the technology at our disposal. But these days

we expect more from our games, at least more than the previous game in the series.

At least i did.

I appreciate what we have got, but i am disappointed because it could have/should have been

a lot more

I really like the more realistic, like real car physics, and when u shoot some one that is in his car, blood comes on the wind shield/glass...lots of new realistic stuff..

iin answere to your question, in my opinion i think the graphics are really really good. the detail that is in the game is really high. ONE thing though that i find a bit odd and a bit sega mega drive like. Is the fact that i have noticed that when driving a car, when turning either left or right in direction. the drivers hands move but NOT the steering wheel which i find a bit crappy for a PS3 game. this is better veiwed in a cab as a passenger. apart from that i can not really fault the game. smile.gif

I agree the water effects are really cool. I love when it rains the way it reflects of the road.

@LostScotsman haha a bit Sega Megadrive, classic

I understand people will say (like Tony) it doesn't bother them. I played a lot of games on my PC with unstable framerate, low LOD, no AA and such because I wanted to play them but I didn't have a system good enough.

What I DON?T understand is people (like Mathew here) who will deny the existence of the problem. This GTA is based on nice and shiny graphics and this issue proves it. They wanted to put in more then consoles could handle. On PC if your game freezes there is an obvious solution - upgrade. But what is one supposed to do if he wants smooth gameplay on his console? NOTHING.

To answer OT, I definitely noticed the problem (on PS3). It's enough to park somewhere and to rotate the camera around your vehicle and you can witness the framerate dropping (IMO) below 18. I'm saying this because I used to play one game on that FPS for a long time and I' a bit used to it. Not to mention if there is a larger car chase or some explosions going on.

IMO this is just not acceptable. When working with consoles developers have fixed hardware on their disposal. So, they should cut content out of the game until they achieve a stable 25 FPS. It doesn't matter fi it drops here and there, but it should be at 25 most of the time.

In this regard, PC gamers probably have an advantage, as their PC will be able to handle this "extra" content (along with other stuff) consoles can't.

Yep, fair point.

Maybe it comes down to the fact that if you've never had to use your imagination, things just seen dull...

...or maybe kids just p!ss me off!! biggrin.gif

Yeah, I noticed this nearly all day, not like having the frame rate skip every sometimes every 5 sseconds suicidal.gif

Thats why I want it on PC, So I can get excellent quality at 1680 x 1050 with 4 x AA, hopefully @ 60fps. sneaky2.gif

GTA:SA's 25 FPS vs. GTA IV's 30 FPS . Which might not seem like much of a difference, but it really is

Lol the steering wheels dont move, but Niko's hand move....Odd lol, never noticed that

it's been there for the whole series. Crap. Everyone who hasn't noticed is an ignorant.

it's one of the main reasons GTAs can't have 1st person incar camera.

Cars of IV compared to butnout paradise or TDU are total crap. not the design side of it,but the detail one.

Consoles are crap get used to it. realism of physics is totally f*cked up,while you call it great. LOLZ.

what's about everyone talking about piontless things, flaming, way offtopic and about non-GTA related stuff?

i wanna find some thing and many KBs of texst is sh*t ppl wasted time with. i wonder why i still come here.

who are you when you cant'condense things that make sense and post them? most of ppl can't bare that i always talk about myny thiongs in my posts,is the world mentally slow or what?

Not this again dozingoff.gif

Anyway the graphics are amazing for a GTA game! Compared to other games they are lacking but they are still pretty good. Like someone said there are frame rate issues but nothing that will hinder gameplay on a massive scale. It's noteworthy at best, annoying at worse...but nothing detrimental.

Of course it's not detrimental, but it shouldn't happen on consoles as one can not upgrade to better hardware.
