Exkabewbikadid
No GTA story has been that brilliant, to be honest. When you have a game that focuses around the life of a madman who goes around shooting up peds and crack dealers all day, it's pretty damn hard to make it good. But R* did the best they could, and seeing as the story is only a part of the game, I didn't care too much. That's a good point and one of the reasons I really didn't feel that any of it was remotely believable. Every time a moral decision came up, I'd look at my stats and see the thousands of people I had already run down or killed. The story would have been much better suited in a linear-driven game like The Getaway rather than a sandbox game like GTA. Not only that, I didn't like a lot of the characters. There were a few memorable one's like Faustin and his wife, Jimmy P., etc., but others seemed so fake and dare I say even childish such as Bernie/Florian, Dimitri after he turned on you, Roman, Patrick, and some others. Overall, the story just didn't pull me in like the old ones did. The story matched the theme of the whole game, which seemed to be anti-mayhem and basicallly just anti-fun. But hey, some people think it's great and that's fine. You just can't please all people all the time.
rozachi blue
How can people say SA had a bad storyline but in the same post say IV was great. SA: CJ comes home after searching for a better life in LC because his mother and brother were mudered due to gang warfare. IV: Niko leaves home because of demons in his past. He is also looking for someone. SA: CJ must earn respect and money to build up trust from his old crew in order to avenge his family members' deaths. IV: Niko must earn money because he is apparently broke but he is rarely forced to buy anything. While he is earning a small fortune, somehow in this huge city he stumbles onto people that can help him with his past. SA: CJ makes money, earns respect, gets pushed around by dirty cops and betrayed by dishonest people. IV: Niko earns yet more useless money, does erons for people trying to help him with his past and also gets betrayed by dishonest people. SA: While building up respect for his gang and himself, CJ's family members' murder investigation shows that a good friend and dirty cops are to blame. He then punishes those who are responsible. End of Story IV: Niko's demons start to catch up to him. He finds who is he looking for. He deals with them but finds out that he has to deal with a big problem from his past. The story has 2 endings both involve revenge but both also end without a solution to his big problem from the past. Not even a "to be continued" SA's story sounds better to me. Sure IV's story may have had better characters, and graphics but what's the point of getting all dressed up if you have no place to go.
Damo004
I didn't like the IV storyline. SA had an amazing storyline, it was easy to follow and everyone loved it. the storyline to SA was lossly based on the L.A.P.D in the 90's and the corrupt squad called.... well i forgot it lol, but yeah, was good to play the game then go on wiki and news websites to get information on the real life story... was good how they also included the coppas not-guilty verdict which errupted a riot, just like in LA
poast
I had the most fun with San Andreas's storyline. But IV has a very deep storyline - not as silly. A more chillout, calming, realistic storyline.
Death_Blade
I didn't like the IV storyline. SA had an amazing storyline, it was easy to follow and everyone loved it. Not really. SAs wasn't much better. Heck, SA just ripped off the movie "Boys in the hood" At least 4's storyline was original.
Jake
I still say Vice City was one of the best storylines.
xDumdumx
GTA IV has the best storyline mann! It's really like that you are playing a movie! It's freakin amazing mann! Niko, Roman, Jacob, love all the characters. Every moment in GTA IV was so intense, filled with action. Loved it mann! R* really made i game that is worth playing. And i think the ending was the best. I love when you can take decisions.
PhilipO43
SA's was way too far fetched and over the top, compared to the more realistic and hard hitting storyline of IV. I'm open minded and i enjoyed VC/SA for what they intended to do, but if you had to make one of these storylines into a movie..lol, the no brainer is IV. I played through SA a few times in full but the story felt like it was just thown in..like an afterthought, compared to IV where the storyline _is_ the game. I'm hoping Rockstar goes even furthur and makes the GTA series even more hard hitting/realistic, and more heavy on the storyline.

rozachi blue
I have never watched a movie that ended with me being able to choose two different endings(that both leave me with no real conclusion to the story).
mkey82
nobody has walked into a bank with automatic weapons and lived to tell about it in ten or more years. What are you talking about?! This happens all the time all over the world. You shouldn't judge the world by your own country. SA's story sounds better to me. Sure IV's story may have had better characters, and graphics but what's the point of getting all dressed up if you have no place to go. Very well put. A for you. One question, though, why do you thing IV had better characters. Technically IV is better (graphics and such) but how does that relay to character quality? GTAaddictforever
i cannot stress enough how much i hate niko bellic. tommy was my favorite. claude was awesome. cj was respectable. niko needs anti-depression pills, a bitch slap, and some testicles for ambition. I would say some of the characters have more believable personalities. The better graphics help convey these characters emotions. But I still think the other GTA's had some characters who were just as good.
Ash_735
IV had a great story, much better than San Andreas, see, this time around, it felt a lot more original, Vice was great but I've seen Scarface before I played the game, San Andreas was just a butt f*ck of all 90s ghetto gangsta films whilst III was a tad more original but still borrowed heavily from films. IV was more original, realistic, down to earth and had better characters then San Andreas that's for sure, The McCreary family is ace, Little Jacob is just cool and believeable unlike all those "I'M GANGSTA!!!!!!!!" characters from San Andreas. Rooneye
The only original bits in the story were about Niko. All the other stuff was copied from films, i.e Jimmy trying to get into cosa nostra and someone trying to be made man (cant remember now) but cant because of his Irish roots (where have I seen this before), how original

.FromSpace
Waaaaaay better than San Andreas, which, in fact, sucked. VC's was cool, III was... isolated. This story just made more sense than some black guy who WANTED to live in the ghetto and see his friend die.

You forgot the part where CJ is a bitch to everyone who asks, gets sodomized by his crazy one-week-or-less girlfriend, teams up with the Triads and, for a time, the Mafia to take over the entire state, and then tries to still act like a gangbanger and do drive-bys in the ghetto while he's a millionaire rap manager and owner of several properties across the state. Something equivilant would be Niko becoming the essential king of Liberty City, then going back to a sh*tty cab depot every morning in his silk suit and suede shoes to work as a taxi driver and take people to drug deals in seedy alleyways.
