Crosby
I've wondered to myself in the past why the wanted stars are sometimes faded. After a few seconds of "thinking" with out success, I shrugged a "meh" and moved on. After having my first (and epic) shootout at the museum, it hit me. The stars are white when the cops can see you, and faded gray when they can't. How could I have not figured that out before. Is this a new feature? I can't remember (if it was in previous GTA's and I didn't get in then either) but I like it now that I get it.
DudeWeresMyHog
The police system goes alot deeper than people know, for instance if you switch cars sometimes police will drive right past you because they are looking for the last vehicle you were seen in. xNamexTakenx
Really? I never knew why this was, either. That's cool! I wondered the same thing as you did. Now, you told me what it means. Thanks.
HawkEyesUK
Yeah, I'm sure it explains all this early in the game though.
TeriCol
Yeah, I'm sure it explains all this early in the game though. I don't remember anything explaining this but I may be wrong. I even missed the stun punch tutorial I was kinda like you Crosby, I was curious and then I just realised. It's a nice system although it's hardly ever worth changing cars because by the time you get out of their view and could change the car, you may as well just keep driving to safety

Crosby
No idea, dude needs a chill pill. Link failed for me too. I guess he has something against Serbians. His flag is Croatian? Don't really care because I'm a red blooded American. I just wanted to see the Serb flag (the flag I have) to see if it matches the flag on the army hat in the game. The only reason I did that was to prove what nationality Niko was, because a while back there was some confusion. I being lazy, never changed back. Oh well-That guys a royal douchebag. Yeah I noticed that, but if you get to close and they see you, they chase you again, but report you in the new car.

ste_t_
SA had a similar idea, when you went to the pay 'n' spray, upon exiting the stars flashed grey and white. or in a similar manner to when the police lose sight of you on IV

greebo-man
Instead of joining the 'lol @ funny pic' bandwagon, I'm going to stand up and admit I didn't know that either until about a week or two ago. I reckon I could have saved myself a lot of wasting if I'd known. Oh well.
Snake Without a Tongue
It took me awhile to figure it out, too. And no, it was never explained as far as I know. It's cool, but gay that you can stay hidden for hours and the cops will still run around saying 'where is he' but you can be in eyeshot outside the red circle and still get away. They should've had a hidden time limit. Thirty seconds hidden and the cops give up or something.
