I had more fun playing GTA 3 than GTA 4

When I was playing GTA 4, the missions were all the same from start to end. It was so boring......

I must totally agree with you there. I always been the type to pay f*cking close as hell attention to every cutscene, and the story - obsessively even. However, becausae GTA 4's missions were so unoriginal, I just gave up.

I mean FFS virtually all missions are either:

1) Go somewhere, kill a ridiculous amount of gangster enemies, sometimes get something and take it back somewhere, often it's just mission complete after everyone has been killed.

2) Go assasinate a one or two people - they'll always always get away, and you chase and gun them with the new shooting-out-of-car system.

Worst still is the bloody story to back them up! My f*cking God that was so lame. Virtually all missions have little if any relivance to your story. They are just favours you do for contacts in return of either money or info to help you with your story.

In GTA 3, Claude had little to no story - which was obvious from the beginning - to get Catalina. He never spoke or expressed any feeling, so that was driven to the very background, and the focus shifted on you contact's own personal stories to try and keep themselves or organisations on top. Cleverly though, R* intertwined that with your story - Catalina and the Cartel are also enemies of most your employers. I was actually interested in going back to Donald Love or Asuka to see what happens next in each of there sagas.

In GTA 4 however, it's more like a chore to see just how awsome and difficult that finali is going to be. I knew it's just going to involve another chore where I have to go "clean up" some more gangsters that my employer happens to dislike the existance of.

Don't get me wrong, there were awsome twists and lots of stories interconnect, but they were just a bit too bland for my liking. At no time can you "just sit back and watch the fireworks" you created, like they promised us, citing the Yakuza/Cartel gang war in GTA 3.

Would it really have been that difficult to make a gang-war place in GTA 4. Program two different gangs to attack one another outside of missions, and every now and then, program sh*tloads of police/NOOSE cars and an FIB car or ERT truck to come with them, arresting and shooting gangsters of both sides. How awsome would that have been with the RAGE engine, awsome graphics and physics? inlove.gif

But no... nothing like that ever happens. sad.gif

This post is in regard to GTA 3 and GTA 4. I did not write it (adamh1981 wrote it) but I thought it would be a good read for this topic.

===========

GTA3 did have more to do in it.....at least stuff that was worthwhile anyway.

Collecting all the hidden packages got weapons and body armour delivered to your safehouse.....the 200 pigeons on GTA4 gives you pretty much nothing.

Doing the vigilante missions in GTA3 resulted in those icons that reduce wanted stars appear at your safehouse. Vigilante missions in GTA4 are pointless with no reward.

Doing 100 taxi fares in GTA3 earned you a respawning super fast taxi. Taxi missions in GTA4 could only be done up to a certain point and there was no reward for doing them.

Doing Ambulance missions in GTA3 resulted in you getting a health power up, and adrenaline shots delivered to you safehouse AND reaching level 16 got you infinate run. Ambulane missions were removed in GTA4.

Fire truck missions earned you a flame thrower delivered to your safe house......fire truck missions were not in GTA4 and NEITHER was the flame thrower for that matter.

GTA3 had the Industrial Export garage where you had to deliver loads of vehicles to.....once you fully complete the whole side mission you can then walk into the garage and get any vehicle of your choosing at any time you want. GTA4 had missions where you had to deliver 30 cars to a garage and as a reward you get nothing.

GTA4 did have good gameplay.......but pretty much only as a story game. In terms of actual rewarding fun factor GTA4 was very thin on the ground compared to previous GTA games

GTA3 had much better rewards and doing side stuff to get cool new things in the game:

Yeah it sucks how there's hardly any worth while rewards. I guess you get them from friends/girlfriends, but that's beside the point.

I have no enticement to do the 200 pigeons, because of the weak reward. Not only that, but there's too many of them. I like in SA how you had the tags, horseshoes, photo spots etc.

The side missions in IV are fine, but there should've been more of them, and given you a reason to complete them. I don't even think you get money from doing Most Wanted missions, or Vigilante missions if I remember correctly. Apart from the money some thugs drop.

The "reward" you get for the 200 pigeons is a crap annhilator chopper that only appears after killing all the pigeons AND completing the story mode.....BUT for completing story mode the same chopper also appears on top of a police station anyway, regardless if you killed all the pigeons or not.

The annhilator has no rockets equiped and its almost impossible to even hit anything with the choppers guns since you will just end up crashing into the ground when you try to line up to your target.

Dead on. That copter is useless, at least you could hit stuff with the Hunter in the past GTAs.

Even the Sea Sparrow in Vice City was quite cool, you could actually hit things with the mimigun and it could float on water. That Annhilator is one of the worst choppers in a GTA game.
