uogaddict
I had been waiting for GTA for the PC. I couldn't wait anymore so I went out and bought an Xbox 360 at Walmart. I bought the "Pro" bundle for $349.99. Today I happened to be at the same Walmart and I noticed the price had dropped $100. I figured cool, I know Walmart is all about customer service and they will probably reimburse me the difference right? First they said no. They would only do it if it was within 7 days. So I said fine, I'll just return it and buy a new one at the lower price. They said that was fine. So I drove all the way home, packed up the Xbox all nice and neat and drove all the way back to Walmart. I get to the counter and the same person who I was talking to the first time said they couldn't accept the return because it was past 15 days (it's been exactly 16 days). They basicly told me I'm screwed and wouldn't give me anything for my trouble. I don't know why it just pissed me off so much. I know other places like Circuit City will reimburse you up to 30 days. Like Walmart doesn't make enough money to refund a few customers. Anyway, thanks for letting me rant.

Seddo
Just go back and say it got the RRoD, i doubt they would test it. Then they would have to give you a refund or exchange.
Mark
I'm not sure about US law, but UK law, unless specifically stated otherwise, the money back guarantee only has to be 7 days. As the Xbox360 is a hard drive product, in the UK they can actually refuse a refund the second you take it out the store. Where I work, where we sell PS3s, then second you walk out with it, that's it. Your receipt is a contract saying they're willing to supply you with a product at the price you paid. That's it. They have no legal obligation at all. Life's a bitch ain't it? Ah well.
Taste Of Chaos
I bought my PS3 from Woolworths, it broke. I lugged the whole thing back to them and they give me. "Sorry, the warranty is with Sony, not us." Wankers. Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell.
Digïtál £vîl
While you don't have a legal case you can still try stirring some sh*t by contacting the higher-ups to tell them about your displeasure with your experience at Wal-mart. Even though they may not have to return it for you, you may reach someone that would rather give up the $100 dollars in sales for the company to make a returning customer happy. But don't count on it. Here you can be linked to a couple contact lists: Contact Info

Wankers. How long had you had it? They have a point you know. The warranty is a manufacturers warranty. The store do have SOME obligation to replace your product depending on how old it is though. Generally we'd throw you down the same route. DE makes a good point. $100 to Wal-Marts not even noticeable. Hell, if they go through the right channels to give you that $100 back it won't even cost them that due to tax evasion etc.
Taste Of Chaos
I only bought it in september, so its still well in warranty. Do you know any services they offer to fix them? I phoned their helpline but they were about as helpful as jumping infront of a bus. Opportunity knocks once in a lifetime, temptation will lean on the doorbell. beavis
You should have done your homework. The rumor about a price drop for the 360 was said to be introduced at e3.

I phoned their helpline but they were about as helpful as jumping infront of a bus. 08705998877, tell em it's f*cked. Tell em you want it repaired. They'll give you a freepost address. Send it. Done. To be fair, Woolworths are well within their right. You've had it 10 months, no way are they taking something back after that period of time to sort out, it's Sony's issue. A store will only accept something back for replacement or refund as long as it's in the state it left the shop and it's still eligible according the the stores policy. After 10 months, even if it was looked after meticulously, there's no way they'd take it back, it's had 10 months use. If they replaced it, Sony would repair it (if it was economical to) and send it back out on sale as new. Someone would be buying a console that had been used for the last 10 months as brand new. If summin goes wrong again after a few months, and it got replaced again...I'd dread to think how old some units on the market sold as "new" would be. As a result, you've got a used unit, you'll get back a used unit. The only time is that any different is when it's known as IWX or "in warranty exchange" which covers headphones etc, cheap crap. It's not economical to repair it, so a replacement is offered.
Iminicus
New Zealand has a 12 month Consumers Guarantee, which states that anything brought can be replaced withing 12 months of sale as long as the receipt is kept. So, I can take back a broken PS3 after 11 months to Dick Smith Electronics and they are required by law to replace it. There is a loop hole for both the business and consumer. Business don't have to apply the 12 month Guarantee to Disk based media, cds, dvds, video games. For consumers, it means you can effectively keep trading up your DVD player ever 12 months, thanks to the Guarantee and that with the exchange a new receipt and Guarantee is issued. SHXC
Everything drops in price, there's no point crying about it. It's just bad luck that you bought it at the wrong time.
voteneg
That's what you get for shopping at f*cking wal-mart. It's a company of republican pricks dead set on preventing unions and shafting their workers whilst offloading healthcare costs onto the state/s... and evading taxes. Their stores are dirty, understaffed, and cluttered, and most unfortunately packed full of cheap chinese off brand sh*t. They usually hire a disabled person as a greeter to stand at the entrance just so they look friendly... but actually try to get them to do something like make up the difference on a price dropped product and you get the sh*tty end of the stick real quick. Oh another thing they have is that "money given back" sign that shows how much they've donated or whatever... it's bullsh*t, usually it's a few hundred dollars a month... much less than they would have payed if they gave workers fair salaries, payed fair taxes, and didn't receive essentially free money to come into a community and build a store. But you save right? Hardly... next time you think how great it is to save your two f*cking cents on your off brand soda... perhaps you should think about the workers without healthcare (which you make up for in taxes going to medicare, wic, medicaid and the like, the damage their trucks do to the roads, and how much money they getaway with not paying. f*cking f*ckers. Arkansas assholes should go crawl in a hole and die... I don't want their bullsh*t anywhere near me. As for me I do as much as I can to avoid greedy heartless monolithic corporations... and instead do what I can to buy from locally owned and operated businesses. I get better service too. I think it's well worth the twenty or so extra dollars I spend on goods per month... than if I shopped solely at wal-mart. Clearly I am vehemently anti-wal-mart. Struff Bunstridge
Don't all electrical goods carry a 12 month warranty by law anyway? The manufacturer should always replace the product if you have proof of purchase.
Rhoda
Don't all electrical goods carry a 12 month warranty by law anyway? The manufacturer should always replace the product if you have proof of purchase. It's a fickle business, with many shops here in the UK refusing exchange (as you may well know Struff). The worst candidates are supermarkets like Asda (Wal-Mart) and Tesco, as they should really stick to cheap food and not cheap TVs.

Seddo
I thought that the receipt is the proof of purchase which entitles you to the 12 month guarantee with the store, as long as the receipt has not been tampered with and it's still in warranty then the store has to take back the broken product and either exchange or refund the full amount. I just assumed with the image Walmart tries to put out of themselves they would be more willing to take care of the customer. I don't normally shop at Walmart. The day I purchased the xbox I just had the cash in my pocket and had spent the day watching GTA IV videos. On my way home I just got the urge and picked it up. The money isn't a big deal. It's just $100. It's the principal of the matter. voteneg hit the nail on the head.

uogaddict
Throughout the day I kept calling the store asking for a manager and each time I got a different one who gave me a different answer. Finally I got one who said they would give me the refund. I went down there and sure enough they came through. I guess persistence pays.
Mike Tequeli
Very true, to big stores you aren't worth it and besides for every different staff member they will have a different call about it. I'm actually surprised Wal-mart gave a sh*t in the first place, around here the Wal-Mart people don't care what you do because in the end it doesn't affect their profits. You could buy a game and knife the hell out of it and bring it back a year later and get a return.
