As I was just watching the E3 Nintendo Press Conference, it was announced that a Grand Theft Auto title for the DS will come out this holiday season, titled "GTA: Chinatown Wars". I'll update with articles later, but WOW, surprising news from nintendo!

edit: Thanks Capornicus: IGN

Edited by Zak.

...besides that I ain't sayin nuthin.

You know it's exiting when three identical topics come out all at once.

This sounds awesome though.

Waiting for more.

This is appearantly the big announcement for Nintendo's "core" market they've been hinting about. I must say I am a bit surprised. We don't know if it'll be classic 2d top down GTA action, but the lady did mention a customized engine. I'm sincerely hoping it's more than the top-down classic GTA formula with a new coat of paint.

Also, don't expect a San Andreas Stories.

I really hope it's topdown, the DS could do a great topdown GTA but I think they will make it fully 3D to appeal to the masses.

G MONEY $$$

I'm liking the logo.

It'll probably be a pretty mediocre game but...hey, it's GTA. colgate.gif

I hope this bombs like a motherf*cker. 17+ year old DS users HAHAAA. San Andreas Stories OR what's the point? A 2d topdown gta game set in liberty city. Don't we have enough of those for f*ck sake. Cheap profit-centered cop-out. I expected more from Rockstar.

This seems like a let down to me, more f*cking Liberty city? If the Sony press conference doesn't hold any San Andreas Stories or anything, that would be horrible.

I love my DS, but I don't see how this is going to work, unless they do a really awesome throwback to the topdown games. DS can handle some pretty gnarly graphics, but it does have a limit' it's not the PSP.

OMG You Serious!?!?!?

Even more glad i got a DS inlove.gif

Don't like the name though... Doesn't follow the city names ie: Vice City or San Andreas.

Sounds like it only takes place in China town. A linear non free roam GTA game set in Chinatown?! Hope not.

Hope it doesn't turn out like when Open-world Assassins Creed went to DS.

Hopefully it'll be 3D and also on the PSP. I'm not shelling out on a console for a game that could just be another 2D GTA.

I'd be concerned about the same thing. I think taking it "oldschool" might be the way to go.

Maybe it could be a 2D/3D hybrid that's top-down for the most part but could have some missions and other things take place in 3D interiors (buildings, hallways etc.) I don't know a whole lot about the DS because I've never owned or played one, but I'd think it could be a little easier to have it load a 3D interior rather than an open environment. I kind of think of the original Metal Gear Solid which was limited to indoor settings for the most part because of hardware limitations at the time.

Hey Zak, you can use this article when you update. Straight from IGN.

Well, I didn't expect to see a GTA on the DS, EVER. Pretty cool. I actually like Nintendo a hell of alot and own some of their products as well (Nintendo Wii, Blue DS), so no Nintendo hating/bashing from this guy. It may turn out to be a big hit, you never know. I won't be getting all bent out of shape just because it is on the DS.

I played a great homebrew game on the DS, called something like 'endless forest.' It was, literally, a forest that you could explore forever, generated randomly. It had no point beyond that, yet I was somehow enthralled. tounge.gif

I don't think the 'open world' is the problem, it's the level of detail the DS is capable of. However, CoD4 on DS was fantastic in this regard, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Or maybe, you know, it's just set in Chinatown?

It does sound like they might actually care about this one. Sam Houser actually talked about it. I say this because they sure as hell didn't give a damn with the Gameboy versions.

No! There are many things that suck about this

- Liberty City AGAIN

- It's on the DS, which'll mean bad graphics

- Less chances of SAS or GTA game for consoles.

Plus the first google image search result for "gta3". Ok so you guys figured me out! cryani.gif was fun while it lasted though eh, maybe next time I will spend more time making the screens look more parallel haha, you can only do so much with a 2min photoshop

edit: i did take the time to make the pants blue instead of green, you've gotta give me credit for that
