Fallout 3

When you have a mod, you just go into game's directory (Computer, HDD (C:), Program Files (x86), Bethesda Softworks, Fallout 3 (or wherever you installed it)) and copy the mod files where the readme included with it says to.

If she's using the NMM, all she has to do is click "download with mod manager" on the mod's download page, and it'll install it for her. I think it also automatically makes a back-up if files are being replaced (like, for example, texture mods) but I could be wrong.

I'll download NMM if that's the case with it doing it automatically.

@Dom - I'll take a screenshot of it later on tonight when I play. I'm sure its something to do with the settings, well I hope it is anyway.

I prefer to do things manually because when I've installed mods like that for Skyrim it's never worked, but that's probably just me f*cking up somehow (just like with Steam Workshop, the simpler way just doesn't work for me).

With FOMM it also created an 'auto-backup' so NMM should do the same. It doesn't have BOSS integrated like FOMM though so you never know.

Well, I've installed mods manually before for Sims but that seems like a sh*t ton easier than it is for FO3. I downloaded that NMM and I then proceeded to download a mod, it then took me through the NMM programme. Except whenever I clicked on the Mods tab, it was completely blank so I'm not quite sure if its installed everything?

Oh it asked me to pick the directory where I want to install these mods. It picked C:\Games\Fallout3\mods it also picked the same for the sound files. Then it has this in the final tab for the FO3 Directory C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3

Is that why the mod I installed hasn't actually shown up on the NMM mods tab?

Check both directories and see which one has the actual install there (with the Fallout3/FalloutLauncher.exe, Data folder etc.) and make sure that the options for NMM all state that directory. Here;

I've no idea where my actual game folder is..I'm either retarded, blind or both because I've looked in my C drive and there's nothing there. Scratch that, it was hiding the documents.

Just thought I would give a bit of a bump with a nice screeny I just took.

Are you using an edited fov? If so, is it a mod or just an edited file? Really like the screen though. I haven't played fallout 3 in a while and I only have 1 of the dlcs left to finish, I'm about half way through the mothership zeta (I think that's what it's called) dlc, though the pitt is by far my favourite.

Hey guys,

Sorry for bumping a one year old topic but I got the game recently and I am enjoying it so far. :) (Warning spoilers ahead)

The atmosphere is great, one of the best atmospheres I have ever experienced in video game in my opinion but I need help. In the 2nd part of Wasteland Survival guide quest for Moira, where the hell do I place the observer? On the top of the Anchorage Memorial there are some hitmen (whom Burke sent because I refused to blow up Megaton) and inside there are some Mirelurks. I have a pistol and an Energy pistol both are sh*t for the Lurks and the hitmen, so I need some help badly here.

I am playing the GOTY edition on PC by the way.

You have to place the observer in a spawning pod/egg in the War Memorial Facility Bay. You'll find them in some flooded room or area inside the place if I remember correctly. Those weapons are weak against the mirelurks though, but it's totally possible to sneak past all of them, and if you don't kill any of them, you'll pass the optional objective. You could also use the Stealth Boy to aid you.

(Had to whip out my strategy guide for this ;) )

I went in the room and I got killed the next second, lol.

In all seriousness though, I have like 300 caps and all the good weapons cost like 1000 Caps. I know there is a Rifle near megaton but I can't find it. :(

I was actually looking for this topic, so thanks for the bump AceKingston :^:

I love this game, I put over 2000 hours ever since I got this in '08, the Storyline is brilliant especially when you get the Broken Steel DLC, And things get really interesting then

By far my favourite Dlc is Broken Steel and Mothership Zeta, Point Lookout is brilliant as well,

Ace, If you go to SpringVale, kill some of those raiders outside the school, Some of them have good loot for a early level And don't forget to search the actual school for more loot

If you're low on caps, just look for some work around Megaton, you can get paid to fix some pipes if your repair is high enough.

Or just look around old buildings for expensive items to sell.

As for your pistol and laser pistol, yeah they're pretty bad. Have a look around raider camps, there's sometimes 10mm SMGs there and some explosives. You'd be better off using VATS and explosives to take out tougher enemies early on.

Enjoy being poor while it lasts lol, I think hanging around near Megaton is one of the most awesome parts of the game.

Also, don't bother buying weapons. Actually don't bother buying anything like weapons and armour in FO3 lol, save your money for safehouse upgrades, they're really useful.

If you ever get NV though, yeah buy stuff on that. In NV you'll be earning a lot more caps and there's lots of stuff to buy.

There's a school in SpringVale? I never knew that! I must check it out.

This is why I love Fallout 3, I find myself looking at the ruined buildings and taking in the atmopshere and exploring than doing the quests.

And VATS is amazing, I love it. Keep using it ever so often.

@Lazy: Yeah I did the pipes quest. I'm still quiet on low on caps, might have to do some of the others. Thanks for the advice. :^:

Oh, Almost forgot, In Megaton, Go to Lucas Simms house, in the kids room there is a hunting rifle on a shelf

Thanks Ciaran.

Oh and another thing I actually thought the pistol was great, until that is I got out of the vault. I'll just sell the two of the pistols I guess.

Oh and Moira is annoying. I heard you can kill her after a while, I won't though only because she can buy my stuff and give stuff for my safehouse. (But those are too dam expensive anyways)

On the hill above Vault 101 (where you started the game), there's a ruined farmhouse. Not far from Megaton. If you check both floors you'll find a hunting rifle with ammo, and a mini nuke which you won't be able to use yet since you don't have the Fat Man. There's also a scavenger if you wanna trade or repair stuff..

It's a shame you don't have Fawkes by your side yet lol

Well I went to Lucas Simm's house, found the rifle but no ammo (Probably a bug). Was kinda pissed off because I lost Karma for nothing so I reloaded my save and went outside of Megaton and the first thing I see is a Talon Merc lying dead. I search him and find the rifle again with ammo! Weird, eh? I also found some other useful stuff. Then I went to the hollowed Rock near Megaton and found a great load of goods, a nicely loaded Sniper rifle some other equipment and a Stealth Boy! Will check out the ruined farmhouse later Werebot.

Now I need to sell off the two pistols and the sh*tty BB Gun. My only problem now is caps but I'll try to find a way around that.

If you want caps, you're not gonna get that by being a good guy lol. Go to Tenpenny Tower, ask that Chief Gustavo dude for some work and he'll send you to wipe out some ghouls in an underground base. It'll give you bad karma but if I remember correctly, it pays well. I think I got like 700 caps for it.

Just give some homeless dude outside Megaton some clean water and all your sins shall be resolved. :^:

Fix and sell raider armour. Buy .32 ammo whenever you can (and .44, you'll need it later). The hunting rifle is boss, raise your small guns and it'll see you through at least half the game.

Yep, for the first half use your hunting rifle, it can take care of super mutants with a few headshots quite easily.

Then when you're a higher level, use the Plasma Rifle, they're very common, easy to repair and there's a sh*tload of ammo for it, you'll always have atleast a couple thousand MF cells on you.

Or, since you said you had the GOTY edition, head to the Outcast camp (forgot the name), head through the simulation and you'll get yourself some power armour and the Gauss Rifle, which is great for deathclaws.

But yeah, I wouldn't buy anything apart from safehouse upgrades if I were you.

Yeah the hunting rifle is absolute badass. That and VATS is a great combination.

Also sold quite a few stuff and now I have a nice little 522 caps which is not bad. But I am still having trouble in that Anchorage memorial mission.

Use a stealth boy and sneak. You don't need a high sneak stat or anything, just save regularly and the quest is piss easy.

Operation: Anchorage is usually one of the first things I try to complete when I start off a fresh save file on 3. It's the easiest way to get a set of Power Armor with the power armor training perk. And to top it all off the Winterized T-51b will never degrade.

If you want a AR with a few mags with it, go to grey ditch and search one the houses there, you'll probably go there anyway for a quest

Ace, what are you aiming for on the mirelurks? The best way to kill them (if you don't wanna sneak past them) is to aim for their small faces using VATS. You could also aim for their arms and legs if you fail to hit their face, but try not to waste your ammo by aiming for their torso. The torso is well protected and only takes half damage. So shoot them in the damn face!

If I'm not mistaken, there's a tougher mirelurk guarding the eggs, can't remember, so my advice would be to try and sneak past it using a stealth boy. So at the pools, just drop down, quickly hide the observer in an egg (try not to get spotted), then just retreat out of the place as fast as you can. Ignore all remaining mirelurks best you can because you can outrun them.

I don't think I've ever had a difficult time with this mission. Just go in, shoot any mirelurk that gets in your way in the face, find the eggs, hide the thing, and retreat. Easy :p

Just remember that if you don't kill any lurks inside the memorial, you get a special reward that will slightly increase your sneaking skill if you wear it. Sounds like you need it lol

I had just started a new save last week and the last time I played it was a few days ago. I think I had just finished the Blood ties quest.

BTW I know someone said you can't make much caps playing as a good guy, but can someone give me any tips on how to get decent cappage besides hoarding everything?

I still remember my favorite save from this game. I had reverse pick-pocketed everyone in Tenpenny tower and fitted them all with Enclave Armour. All the security guys had gotten Tesla armour and the civvies were given the normal kind. Too bad my Xbox had bricked on me. But it's okay because now I have the GOTY edit on PC. :colgate:
