Fallout 3

I played this on PS3 and couldn't get into it, I believe it was the control scheme and the terrible visuals so I am willing to give it a go again on PC this time. I understand it runs on the same engine as Oblivion, I could run that easily so does Fallout 3 perform about the same roughly?

I cant compare to Oblivion as I dont own it but it runs fine on my PC, and my PC aint all that great. I wont lie, there are some slow-downs and crashes bu their not relevant.

Why did they create such a low max-out level? I mean c'mon, 20? And everyone seems to be somewhat ticked at how easy it is to reach that and the lack of challenge afterwards. I know, you can kick up the difficulty, but still.

I agree. They should have at least made it much harder to level, so you'd have to visit at least 50% of the wasteland before you could possibly max out.

This weekend I'll be getting the game back off my friend (he was lucky enough for me to let him borrow it tounge.gif)

Can't wait to dig into it, and bask in its awesomeness.

I sure hope Bethesda release some sort of mod for the PS3 version that removes or raises the level cap. I'm getting the game for christmas and the thought of starting a whole new game to get different skills worries me. I don't really have the patience to play through games twice just to unlock different abilities.

Anyone ever heard of people releasing third party mods for PS3's or Xbox's?

With all of the bobbleheads, skill books, the comprehension perk and special apparel options, you can max out what's important to you early on and then augment everything else pretty well either on the way to or after reaching level 20. The only reason you might feel like you need to replay is if you rushed through the first time.

Sure you can get by just fine with all you just said, but Fallout is a game, like GTA, that I like to finish 100%. Explore every area, max out every option etc. Just knowing that I could reach those skill levels but can't is pretty annoying.

@TheSamurai Hobo: If you play on PC, check out http://www.fallout3nexus.com and look for a level cap remover.

Thanks, got the level 30/40 cap one

Damn, ending was very lack-luster. Don't know the next time Ill pick up and play this one. Back to GTA, I guess.

Was a great play though, recommend it to anyone looking for a good time waster.

You answered your own question. Well alright.

HOPEFULLY, I will be playing this game tomorrow. All I could do for the past week was stare at the cover and read the booklet. Now I wanna pop a cap in some raider punk's ass.

So, pretty sure I'm getting this for Christmas.

How good is it, really? What's it like? How's the replayability?

So, anyone? I'd like to know before I make sure I get it.

Read the topic. Jeez, do we have to do everything for you? Your username pretty much guarantees you will like it. tounge.gif

In brief, I'd consider it a good candidate for GOTY.

Well everytime I get onto XBL I see you and at least two other playing it, so I'll take it as a good candidate now that you told me that.

yup, this game rocks. If you have played Elder scrolls and had an enjoyable time, you'll love this game. It's epic. It's like Oblivion set in the year 2157.

Yeah, I own Morrowind and Oblivion and played the f*ck out of them both. Just wanted to make sure it's as good as them before I went and made sure it was purchased for me.

I kind of wondered that before I played it, but I can honestly say fallout 3 hasn't let me down in the least. I played Oblivion between 250-300 hours with three different characters, and i feel it's very similar, in a good way. I didn't have any idea fallout 3 would be this immersive, and I wasn't expecting fallout to be a succesor to Oblivion (game play, not story wise).

Twenty minutes out of the box and I was saying "So this is why the next elder scrolls hasn't been announced"

fallout 3 is not as replayable nor mission-filled as oblivion/morrowind.

I'm 50 hours in and have done pretty much everything now... (discovered all locations, done all sidequests, etc. collected each bobblehead)

it's a fun epic game, just not as long/replayable as one would expect. confused.gif

the ending and level cap made sure of that tounge2.gif

Gah, I've made 10 characters on Oblivion at least, each one with a different main specification, each done every side quest, all DLC done for it, etc.

So much fun. Hopefully i'll love Fallout 3 in the same way

Luke I think you would definatly enjoy Fallout. The one thing I would say is that you will probably find it a wee bit short since you are used to playing Oblivion. But what game is as long as Oblivion really? tounge.gif

Idunno, I've got over 100 hours in and I haven't found or done everything. I think it depends on how you play. I've scoured every location I've found for loot, tried every weapon I've found, and done all the major side quests but I'm still finding new stuff. I still have some weapons I've yet to make or find, two behemoths left to kill and some minor side quests and the last story quest to do.

Right now I'm on an Enclave soldier hunt to try to find the Tesla backpack. Those vertibirds are like an armor delivery service.

Yeah, that's true. tounge.gif

I'm gonna rent a game tonight, if they have Fallout I'll grab it to give it a test run as well.

If not I'm getting COD4/5 or L4D if anyone's for that, hinthint.

I can't find Big Town to save my life. I wanna get to it to activate the side quest. Does anyone know where it is? Better yet, does anyone have a map with the location of big town circled?

I don't know if anyone's seen this, or even if it's viable news - but it sounds awesome.

Finally, a construction set, two massive new maps, and a continuation of the story? They know how to treat us right.

Edit - confirmed

i pretty much quit playing other games once i got Fallout.

Same here. You know you've been playing too much when you consider ordering some Greasy Prospector pork and beans with a side of Cram to go with your Yum Yum deviled eggs while out to breakfast.

That DLC looks great. So nice we don't have to wait long for it.

I've played over 60 hours without even restarting, I think this will add another 60+ per DLC
