But the stereotype for Brits is that they are almost emotionless.

I've never heard that one. I've only heard the one about them all having bad teeth. lol

In my case, that has some elements of truth.

Your British?

No I'm not saying that but most Americans probably won't be able to understand most of the culutral references. This can be made up by better graphics and better emotions from characters.

It's not like we're going from America to China! Britain isn't that much different from America. Modern Britain is heavily influenced by American culture. I don't think it would make that much difference. I should know, I live there myself. wink.gif

Plus, why should the rest of the world have to put up with American culture all the time, when does the rest of the world get their go?

But the stereotype for Americans is that they are fat, stupid, warloving bastards.

STEREOTYPES SHOULD NOT INFLUENCE R*!

Stereotypes shouldn't influence R*? The whole GTA series is based on stereotypes. Everything from the storylines to the maps and down to the people.

They've done a great job of showing the American stereotypes, why not the British ones? Nobody is saying that everyone is like that, that's why it's a stereotype.

I meant they should not have a role in deciding locations.

Let me ask you a question...

Have you ever played a GTA in your entire life!? It's got TONS of stereotypes!!! It's a main source of humor for the game!!!

I meant they should not have a role in deciding locations.

Err...you can't have stereotypical humor with a well known stereotype...so yes it should be a main decider of a location. In fact it always has.

My ideas for locations:

Vice City-obviously it would fit a pattern...also Vice City would look great with R.A.G.E and the new consoles/PC.

London-Obviously the stereotypes; regular people being rich, up-tight a**holes, gangsters being completely bad*ss, and (this one goes for all of europe) being absolutly obsessed with football (soccer).

Tokyo-Yakuza mainly but Japan as a whole has a MASSIVE stereotype for being insanly high-tech. Also those insane Japanese styles...

Los Angeles (Los Santos)-It's been done in San Andreas so it probably won't happen but it's got probably the biggest reputation for organized crime and street games except for New York City (Liberty City).

San Fransisco (San Fierro)-Obviously the whole gay thing. Not much of a stereotype for organized crime, though. But I would love driving with the new physics on those hilly San Fransisco roads.

I didn't explain my post enough. I meant that the small stereotype that hardly even exists that Brits are emotionless should not influence Rockstar. That's what I meant. I am aware how much stereotypes influence the characters and locations, but that single stereotype that I rarely even hear in culture should not influence Rockstar.

If the next GTA is a fourth generation rendition of Vice City they would probably go with another immigrant story in my view; can you imagine coming into the country by night on a dingy or wooden boat with a whole band of illegal immigrants from a range of central american countries, making landfall on the beachfront with the backdrop of the bright-lights of Ocean Drive and Downtown, with nothing but $25 to you name like Niko and CJ.

These characters could play an important part in the narrative, some would become friends and allies, some enemies, some would be random characters and you get to see how their lives turn out.

Either that or they could go for a gritty far less glamorous option for the opening, possibly starting off pitch black to the sound of cry's, spanish dialogue and dock-noises, as you emerge from a shipping container from down by the docks.

Vice City. It's a tradition.

GTA1: LC, VC, SA

GTA III Era : LC, VC, SA, LC, VC

GTA IV Era : LC, LC, VC, SA

It makes sense.

Actually, it goes:

  • GTA 1: LC, VC, SA, London
  • GTA 2: Anywhere City
  • GTA III: LC, VC, Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, LC, VC
  • GTA IV: LC, LC, LC, LC
People seem to forget GTA London and GTA 2 ever existed. Proves their crackpot theories wrong though, that's probably why. wink.gif

Jacky: Your so right!

The thing is GTA and GTA2 were created under the wing of Dave Jones and the original DMA under pretty much a completely different team of developers, from whay i've read from interviews with Dan and Sam Sam; they and O'Donovan? owned the development company on behalf of take-two interactive after parting ways with Sony BMG but had little creative involvement beyond the Audio side before GTA III. London was also contracted out to an entirely different team from DMA also.

GTA III is basically the start of what we today think as GTA and R* North. There's the classic Dave Jones period, then there's modern reign of the Housers and The Benz. I think your misguided if you hold up London and GTA2 as canonical in the way that you do. Anymore than GTAAdvance, CTW which were also created by basically outside help, i.e. Gordon Hall's R* Leeds/Digital Eclipse.

Grand Theft Auto Advance is the only modern GTA game created by an third-party developer (Digital Eclipse). Rockstar Leeds (in-house game developer) created Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and Chinatown Wars with help from Rockstar North.

Grand Theft Auto London was developed by DMA Designs (now Rockstar North) and Tarantula Studios (now Rockstar Lincoln); the same people who developed the original Grand Theft Auto 1.

If I'm misguided for thinking that Grand Theft Auto 2 should be considered apart of the GTA franchise then you must be misguided for thinking Grand Theft Auto 1 is too - since they were made by the same people.

The fact of the matter is that people just choose to ignore GTA London and GTA 2 because they disprove their theories that 4th Generation (GTA IV onwards) is going to repeat the 3rd Generation (which people say mimic the 1st Generation, which it doesn't).

Just look at it like this:

1st Generation (2 Games)

Liberty City (New York) - San Andreas (San Fransisco) - Vice City - London

2nd Generation (1 Game)

Anywhere City

3rd Generation (6 Games)

Liberty City (East Coast) - Vice City - San Andreas (Los Angeles/San Fransisco/Las Vegas) - Liberty City (East Coast) - Liberty City (East Coast) - Vice City

4th Generation (2 Games, 2 DLC)

Liberty City (New York) - Liberty City (New York) - Liberty City (New York) - Liberty City (New York)

There's no correlation between the order in which cities have made an appearance, other than the fact that Liberty City has appeared as the opening city to three generation of games.

I think Rockstar simply recreated the cities from the original GTA for the 3rd Generation because they were making the jump from 2D to 3D. We had not seen these cities in 3D before. They didn't manage to create an authentic feeling New York City with GTA III so they decided to try again with GTA IV. Since Miami and California/Nevada was already recreated almost perfectly in GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas respectively; why should they do it again?

If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

GTA III was broke, so they made GTA IV and fixed it.

I talk about my reasons for Vice City not being the NeXt location: here.

I don't care how many times I see that picture - I still think Somalia would be a good setting. You could feature the northern region of Puntland and a large area of sea to the west (based on the Indian Ocean). Maybe even the southern tip of India/Sri Lanka?

The game could focus on gang warfare and piracy. I could imagine skimming across the Indian Ocean and hijacking cruise liners and holding them for ransom. Would be interesting, no?

Some people have already said this, but I would love to see the next GTA to be Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas all together. I love the idea of going to the airport and having the option to fly to each location. Along with that, I would like to see one new additional location that you could go to. smile.gif

As much as I'd love it to be London (being my home town) I think I'd prefer Vice City. For a couple of reasons, One is London would be too much like Liberty City. Two, Vice City would be a different way to look at GTA with the HD generation of gaming nowadays. Liberty City looks beutiful and an exotic version would look incredible.

I really hope Vice City is next (even if it is going to be a loooong way off). I don't see how the hell they would fit a San Andreas style GTA4 on an Xbox 360 DVD though. It could well use up some space on a Blu Ray disc, but a whole state with the visuals of Liberty City just wouldn't cut it onto a DVD.

No it doesn't. There are similarities, but we do have plenty of unique neighbourhoods and landmarks, and vice versa.

And another thing, the culture and underworld is completely different. (e.g less Mafia, more Yardies etc.)

It is not gonna be Vice City I'm 99% sure on that. Liberty City and San Andreas were huge. Vice City was two long stretches. Today's gamers would be greatly disappointed. I guess they could remake it like they remade Liberty City. I think they should make a new city or return to San Andreas. San Andreas would take forever to update with GTA 4 graphics.

That's the thing; they didn't remake Liberty City, the just made another city with the same name. Liberty City in GTA III is based off the east coast in general (as stated by Rockstar) while Liberty City in GTA IV is based solely on New York City. They're two different cities with the same name.

If we were to go back to San Andreas, I wouldn't want it to be an entire state again. Especially because the storyline has to try and twist and turn to fit the themes of each of the three cities. I'd much prefer three separate games with each one featuring on a different city (Los Santos, San Fierro/Andreas and Las Venturas). Though I want to see Las Venturas the most.

I'd even be up for a return to San Andreas as just a city in itself. If the gta3 series is not even the same universe as the gta4 series, then there is no need to stick to the rules made in 3's version of san andreas.

A few mentions have been made of San Andreas, in particular Las Venturas and Los Santos (I think there were a couple to San Fierro, but not 100% sure.)

if the next gta game, or all of them in the future are anything like gta 4 then im done with the series. 4 was nothing like the other 3d games, (3,vice,SA) IT doesnt even feel like a gta game when playing it sad.gif so unless they go back to the old game style, i could care less where it takes place cause i wont be buying it.
