22 pages of: ...You know what, I can't believe it. I just thought of the most innovate, progressive and above all the most down right original idea of all time AND I know for a fact that nobody else has ever suggested this before because I have checked. Vigorously. Get this... Vice City

or better yet, if i'm feeling adventurous and i'm really pushing the boat out... San Andreas zzzzzzzzzzzz dozingoff.gif.

Edit: I'm sorry, but if you're not going to add at least one damn thing to the discussion not even by contributing to somebody-elses "ideas", why even bother?

Yeah I know. I'm a hypocrite. Bite me. VC FTW!!!!!! confused.gif

I like the thought of San Andreas again, the Forth road+rail bridges from Scotland and various locations very close to them seemed to pop up, I work right next to these bridges so i'm biased towards this choice smile.gif

Here are the bridges I speak of, 20-30 minutes away from the R* office in Edinburgh/Scotland..

Without my biased opinion, I would like a Vice City style place again.

I was going through the choices on the poll and several of the locations listed would feel an awful lot like Liberty City, and I don't feel like that's the direction to take. However, Hawaii stood out the most among them all. Reasoning:

There's plenty of cities to use that would give those areas the traditional GTA feel, so it wouldn't be too much of a far cry from the GTA formula.

However, Hawaii being a tropical island gives the opportunity for a lot more things. The water can be used a lot more effectively if they improve the water physics and bit and add jet skis and whatnot.

And also, with the volcanos and forest type areas, there could be a lot of emphasis on dirtbikes, quads, and other off road vehicles. Helicopters could also be used a lot more prominently.

Now, combining these, there could be some good multi-tiered missions making use of all the different areas effectively. There's really a lot of potential for a Hawaii based location.

How about instead of Vice City, Liberty City, and San Andreas we try something new and orginial. How about the Great Lakes Region, and part of the Midwest. I propose cities such as Chicago,Detroit, Cleveland, and St. Louis, with a little bit of farm land, and small towns in between. With all the corrupt politicans, gangs, and mafia's Chicago has to offer, followed by the slums gangs, and run down buildings of Detroit, and Cleveland's problems, this could actually be a pretty good game. It also would probably sell better if you had some characters from the previous games included in this one.

8 Islands Huge

Chicango (Chicago) 250 Square Miles

4 Islands

North-brook (North Side, Suburbs)

Lawndale (West Side)

Circle (East Side and Downtown)

Southport (South Side)

Midwest Island (Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois) 50 Square Miles

(FArmland and Small Towns)

Motor City (Detroit) 150 Square Miles

2 Islands

Detropolis (South Side and Downtown)

Midland (North Side, Suburbs)

Cleverton (Cleveland) 100 Square Miles

1 Island

I think Chicago would be a perfect setting, Rich ignore the poor. Gangs running around on the south side, one of the most politically corrupt cities in the country, and it's mafia history. We could also throw in some more cities in to go with it, like they did in San Andreas. What would make this game perfect was if you could control your own empire trafficking, dealing, bribery, house buying, you could buy a car from a dealership, and even some suburbs. There's no telling what you could do.

New Abilities and Features biggrin.gif

Purchase Car (From dealership even take a test Drive)

Pick Locks (It can range from picking door locks, breaking into houses, cars, even safes)

Gyms (Just like in San Andreas)

Casinos (I plan to have a few Riverboat Casinos on Midwest Island Island were you play any gambling game)

Basketball (Just like San Andreas)

Drive Thru (Just order food without getting out of your car at anytime, amazing no one ever thought of this)

Smoke (From Ciggerates to any drug you could imagine)

Boat Tour (Just like the Chicago Boat Tour)

Convertible Top (You can decide weather you want your top up or down and press the down button to let it down or the up button to put it up in the weather)

Weather Differences (Snow showers and every 14 days the season will change, there will even be as much of a foot of snow on the ground at times)

Traffic (Depending on the time of day particualarlly between 0700 to 0900 and 1600 to 1800 there will be heavy traffic and during 2300 to 0500 the traffic will be at it's lightest)

Car Rental (You can rent a car if you don't want to spend money but don't want to get caught stealing a car)

Money Jobs (If you are low on cash and you are done with the missions you can do some criminal activity for money)

Mug People (Walk up behind them with a knife aim press R2 let them hand you money press O to kill them or Triangle to release them)

That would make the perfect GTA happy.gif

I get the feeling that in the present day, a Rockstar depiction of any mid-west city like St. Louis (I have lived there) would feel strangely like Alderney infused with bits of Bohan and borrowing modestly from midtown Algonquin in the case of Chi-town or Alderney City in the case of Detroit or Cleveland. Recycled themes with a bit of farmland or in the case of the great lakes, some scenery. Not really earth-shattering unless they do something radical like prohibition-era Chicago or 70's Motown-disco era Detroit.

Having said that Alderney didn't really look or feel like NJ to me all that much.

I'd rather go with Vice City again then go with somewhere too architecturally or culturally similar to Liberty City. The thing about LC, VC and SA is that they are all polar extremes - urban, tropical, desert, etc. Hawaii is perfect in this regard because it's quantifiably different. I have never been so it's hard to comment but the idea of combining elements of tropic-hedonistic VC with the sprawling urban inner city ghetto of LS set in the pacific ocean with lots of little islands. Perfect.

I voted for Vice City, because the GTA III canon has gone 'Liberty City - Vice City - San Andreas,' and so far the GTA IV canon has been 'Liberty City'.

See my logic?

that would make sense because they have remade liberty city so why not just remake vice city and san andreas again, and then if they want to in the next trilogy, they can make new cities? plus a remade vice city would make the best game ever. but i still want it to be in the 80s:)

I'm GUESSING Vice City. I can imagine... For the 360, PS3 and PC, with the GTA IV graphics obviously. All of the new clothes, houses, multiplayer -- awesome!

the best idea ive heard here is to combine liberty, vice, and san andreas all together and be able to fly from one city to another... but lets think about it for a second. would u guys be willing to sacrifice something? i mean if you want bigger, then something has to go right? would u be willing to sacrifice graphics or options for size? im not a programmer or anything but i do understand the general rule for making a game.... theres only so much thats gonna fit on one cd, and unless u wanna swap cds out in order to go to other cities, somethins gotta go. so what would u sacrifice? what i think rockstar needs to do is keep the graphics top-notch, like they did in 4, but have additional cities u could download and add on. what does everyone think? ps. does anyone know how much space gta 4 actually takes up on the blu-ray version? (and im talkin cd space, not the install) and how much space is actually available on a blu-ray disc?

oh yea, sorry if i put this in the wrong spot, but im talking mainly about how much city/country u could fit on the blu-ray without losing any detail.

Nah seriously, Vice City is my favourite GTA of all time but i think that people wanting to go back there is overrated and not the original game itself. I wouldnt mind it being set on London bring something new to GTA.

I'd go with Hawaii next decade. The 80's are coming back in style and New Wave is making a comeback and so is Rock'n'Roll. All I want is to drive a black Ferrari California around the coast as fast as possible!

If not, VC. It was and always will be my favourite game forever.

As long there's lots of 80s songs I'm up for it, won't mind having a VC gta4-like remake at all.

Do you guys want a Crime Simulator or a Reality Simulator? I mean, seriously, some features are just pointless... take the TV for instance... only 3 looping shows... whoopee. confused.gif

As great as the new Liberty City is, I can't help but feel a little bit of "been there, done that, but WOW it looks so much better" when I'm exploring, and I think that's all too common in games today. A huge, next-gen version of SA would be wicked, but imagine a GTA game set in a city like the one in The Fifth Element, or something like Curosant in the star wars movies? It might not be a traditional GTA game, but if they could pull it off, it would be revolutionary! And since GTA has always been a spoof on modern culture, a game set in the future would be a great way to forecast where our culture can lead us, and how bad things can get, George Orwell style, know what I mean?

If not that, then how about a game set in the pacific north-west? like Seattle or Vancouver B.C? If you've ever been to the area, you'll know just how varied and diverse the terrain is, and also how beautiful. In Vancouver, for example it can vary from beach county to skii country in a matter of a few hours drive, with all things in between.

All I'm saying is I'm getting tired of re-visiting past experiences with a new coat of paint, I'd like to see something totally new!

Thank you, finally someone understands that Vancouver is the PERFECT location for the next GTA game! Who says there isn't crime in Canada? Surrey (District in Vancouver) has the second highest crime-rate and car theft rate in North America next to, guess where = Miami.

I vote for London too.

GTA isnt influenced by USA culture. It is influenced by gangsters and there are plenty of those in London!

I think it should be set in the 80's with all the punks around, you can play a struggling gangster trying to keep up the streets of yesteryear (from the 60's gangster high life).

London is a very dense city and would make for some excellent back alley car chases!

Id have to vote redoing vice city like they did liberty for 4. Its true, san andreas would be just a little ""to big ". I think it should be kept in the 80s time frame though because it provided for the perfect radio and atmosphere. And if you did have a modern vice city it would be a vice city map with people that look like they belong in san andreas lol smile.gif

haha.. I lived in Van for 6 years and worked on the road as a furniture installer, so I'm well aware of the terrain and the sh*t-hole that is surrey, no offense to people who live there, but come on. I'd love to get into a virtual shootout with the cops in a place like Stanley Park, or plow through some tourists in Gas Town.

The 80's has been done to death. We already have Vice City and VCS and Scarface and it's sequel. We've all seen Miami.. it's flat and sunny, and by my count there's atleast 5 games set there, if you include Driver on PS1, can we move on? Atleast in Vancouver, women are allowed to go topless (not that they ever do) and there's a legal nude beach near downtown. Oh, and there's a legal vapor lounge on Hastings, so as well as getting drunk with your dates and stuff, you can get stoned too!

Remember how cool it was to drive to the top of the mountain in SA, find the parachute an float through the trees back down to the town below? There's TONS of places like that in BC! You'll see.. in 2010 when the Olympics go there, the world will see just how awesome Vancouver is. Any environment or culture from around the world can be found there, trust me.

But noone really took it to the next level. Sure its been done so many times but it has a sh*tLOAD of potential. Vancouver sounds like a decent place but really? Grand Theft Auto Vancouver? Lol. Liberty city had been done to death to but look at the potential that was relized with gta 4.

Hey.. if you've ever been there, you would instantly understand why's it's perfect! And sure, Miami hasn't been taken to "the next level", but if the whole point of the next level is to re-visit the previous one, then you're all a bunch of suckers for buying the same thing over again. R* played it safe by putting GTA4 in Liberty.. again, and considering the millions of dollars that went into it, I can understand why, they wanted to be sure it would do as well as possible and didn't want to take the risk. But now that they're WAY richer now than they were a year ago, I hope they are more willing to take a risk on a whole new style of city that no one has even thought of.

We'll probably learn what they have in mind in 2009, and as much as I'd love to see GTA Vancouver, I wouldn't put money on it. If they do something new, they'll probably do Tokyo with a Yakuza story, not that we haven't seen enough of THAT city too.. sigh

So, loads of people seem to be hoping for Vice City. But what's the best time for it? Present day, or back near the 1980's? I'd just feel more satisfied if it was present day.

GTA: Boston would be awesome, like off The Departed. Maybe be Packie. I don't know why but i want GTA to stay in America, don't know why but i think it would be the best thing to do. Maybe Gta could do Libreity City, Sand Andreas and the new city together, that would be awesome

Vancouver. . . damn, wish I thought of it first. It's got enough crime to support a GTA game (particularly that Surrey place, if what people are saying about it is true), it's got the Triads, biker gangs, and Indian gangs, it's got a beautiful countryside filled with pine forests and snow-capped mountains, it's got the potential for over-the-top Canadian stereotypes, it sits on the US-Canada border (two words: weed smuggling), and it's about to get a whole lot of exposure courtesy of the 2010 Winter Olympics. And to top it all off, it's the center of Canada's entertainment industry, and a lot of American movies and TV shows are shot there, which means that there's a lot of potential for pop culture satire. All of these traits, particularly the first two, make it a great choice for a GTA setting. I'm adding it to my list.
