Rhoda
People always ask me about Dave, and why not? Next door neighbours didn't stretch it, we were the best of friends. He'd always borrow my hose or my wheelbarrow, knowing I wouldn't really mind. I didn't really. Even if his garden was nicer as a result of pilfering all my tools and equipment, we both knew he was the one who knew how to use them. He was a practical joker for sure. Like that one time he dyed my hair blue in my sleep, or that anecdote involving a crossbow and some porcelain gnomes. What a kidder. I loved him to bits though, even more so when he decided to take photos of me and my wife during sex and distribute them through the Sunday supplementary magazine. God only knows if he originally took those for pleasure, and I suppose it sort of gets me back from perching on a ladder inches away from his window, trying ever so hard not to steam it up as their bedroom grew intimate. We'd always have a good laugh about it, leaning on the fence and trying to outdo each other with saucy tales of misdemeanor. I don't quite remember what happened to him, now that I think. I mean, people always assume I'd know. Sure, we tell each other everything, but not this. He didn't seem to say anything, or even try to when I held his Christmas outdoor light extension cord around that smug neck of his. Sure, he punched the air a bit but doesn't everyone at times of jubilation? I know I did. He'd always admired the feeling of my premium industrial thickness black bags, so how lucky he was to feel it on his bare skin all the time. Oddly enough, the fighting seemed to stop as soon as his body hit the plastic. I suppose it was his way of showing quiet admiration for my work. I'd never fancied myself as a gardener like I said, but Dave happily sat there in his black cocoon and watch his hole grow. I remember Dave. And so does his wife. Lucky I'm there for a shoulder of comfort, because let's face it, she's growing cold and his TV won't watch itself. I remember Dave.

Rhoda
Glad you like it. I've decided to write more shorter pieces until I get back into my "Ghost Groove", it seems I'm not satisfied with any path at the moment. Still, enjoy these shorter morsels. Ronmar The Only
I wonder if 'your' wife remembers Dave, and of course Dave's wife. Maybe you can all have a slumber party. Visit Writers' Discussion Compilation of Works: From a Storyteller
