I was going to reply to this last night, but I ended up falling asleep on my bed while baked before I could. I even had the browser open and ready to type. Oh well.

 

Anyways, my move has gone rather smooth. Apart from the fact that I am pretty much broke right now. Moving takes a lot out of your pocket. I had to buy a bed, a desk, and some other furniture. Plus, I'm getting cable and internet installed this Sunday (free HD DVR WOOT!) so that is going to cost me some. Thank god for credit cards, I swear. At least I will be able to pay it all off by the beginning of October once I get paid. The only down side is, not having money means not having weed.

 

Luckily, not only does my new roommate smoke, but he smokes a lot. And has been smoking me out pretty much since I moved in. This works well too since I'm more comfortable smoking in his room then mine since my window is right by a walkway, but once I get some more money, I am going to pick up a vaporizer and already have plans drawn out for a carbon scrubber that will be hooked up to a CPR/Oxygen mask.

 

Simplified, what will happen is you put the mask to your mouth, inhale the vapor from the vaporizer through a tube feeding to the mask, then exhale back into the mask which would then be pulled through to a small chamber which contains the carbon filter/scrubber. Tada... high as f*ck with no residual smell at all.

 

For anyone wondering the technicalities of it or thinking it might not work as I planned, if I ever get around to bringing the plans with me to work, I will scan it and post them on here. From all my calculations and previous experience with dealing with air movement, it should work fine and I did leave out a fair chunk of information on the technicalities of how it would work in my explanation.

 

But yeah, I think I'm getting sick, which pisses me off. I hate end of summer colds.

other news: ended up picking up yesterday after school cuz my friend started slanging again, albeit only to friends (since he got jumped a while back). we rolled a j and smoked beside a nice looking creek. pretty potent stuff. basically just got Slurpee's and went down to this park, went on that spinny carousel-esque sh*t, was the bomb.

 

bongs n blunts on friday, yusssss....smoking in the morning before school, at lunch, after school, and probably well into the night. big blazing days like that are always welcome.

Right on man, good to hear that aspect worked out for ya. Would have really sucked something fierce if he didn't blaze. And that vape idea sounds killer. Don't know if anyone's ever seen the "First-Aid Kit" that has a glass bottle with a bowl in it, attached to a plastic hose connecting to an oxygen mask. sh*t is hella nice to smoke out of, but I'd much rather use the mask for the vape. So today marks another day without weed. Heh, in the passed 4 years I've smoked, I've only gone 2 full days without getting high. Surprised the sh*t out of me. I've noticed if I don't have weed at all, then I'm hardy urged to smoke. However, if I've got a bag, I find it a lot harder to keep myself from smoking. Anyways, I'm off to catch some night eye. ps waterfall bongs are a great way to lower your tolerance without sacrificing getting baked 24/7. you only need one bowl to get ripped! not to mention theyre fun as.

Pollen hash is just taking kief ( trichomes ) and pressing them, isn't it? Should be nothing wrong with that. Dom's friend was probably just not use to a trip that intense.

 

 

Also, Digi, are you going to be using one-way valves or what? There's a lot of different styles of oxygen bags, so I'm just wondering which one you're talking about. At first I thought you meant ones with the big bulbs on the end, but I'm not sure that would work.

 

Anyway, I think it's interesting, because I was thinking about how to make a valve system like that the other day... I came up with an idea which I'll try to describe and make a sh*tty drawing of.

 

All right, the valves themselves are very simple. I saw them on some painter's masks at first, so I figure buying two and ripping them off wouldn't be hard. The way it works is it's basically just a flap of plastic that goes over a hole in the mask. When the user inhales, the inward pressure equalization causes the flap to stay closed over the hole ( as to filter the air through the mask ), and when they exhale, the outward pressure equalization obviously causes the flap to open, and the air to escape through the valve.

 

So the solution as to how to get something you can inhale into and then exhale into is relatively simple. You simply have one of these valves that opens inwards, and one that opens outward. That way when the pressure needs to equalize into the chamber, the inward valve will be pushed open, and when the user exhales, the outward valve opens while the inward valve will stay closed. Now it's time for a simple drawing.

Obviously some kind of medical device would work better. Spit guards, full face masks, etc. I just thought it was interesting we were thinking along the same lines. Only thing is I don't have a vaporizer, so I haven't even started to figure out what I'd make it out of, I just saw those valves and thought, "Hmm, those could be useful.

 

In the end I was probably going to rip off some of those valves from the painters mask, put them on a two liter, and then figure out a way to hook up some tubing from the valves ( about 1 square inch in size ) to whatever device I was using. I kind of got held up on what I would use for a carbon scrubber though, because I wanted the whole thing to be somewhat self-contained, and not a big bunch of hoses.

I planned to use a similar intake/outtake valve like that.To further make it work for me, the exhalation tubing would connect to two powered computer fans (one at the beginning of the filter and one at the end to help push air out - this may just change to a single fan at the end). This lead to the issue of preventing vapor from traveling straight from the vaporizer and into the exhaustion so originally I was toying with the idea of using an electric servo that would open and close a valve on the unit whenever the exhaust fans turned on.

 

This is where my plans are getting murky however as it takes more electrical work then I might be suited for. My current plan is even changing and isn't final though as just last night I had some ideas I would like to incorporate into.

 

 

The end result of what I am looking for though is to have my vaporizer sitting on one part of my shelf, the tube feeding to the oxygen mask, then the tube feeding out into the filter which would be self-contained in a glass tube (I'd want to see it working of course, plus it adds a cool effect) on the self next to the vaporizer. (If people want to think about this in a visual way, watch Harold and Kumar 2 and pay attention to the "smokeless bong", would be similar to that, except it would actually work. lol.) Of course, for filtration, I am still considering ionic or carbon based.

 

An automated switch would be used that could turn the exhaust fans on after a short delay when the vaporizer is turned off.

 

At first, I hadn't considered using a bag in connection to the oxygen mask, but that very well could be a working possibility and I considered that last night.

 

I expect to go through these design changes at least 10 to 20 times over the coming week or two while I try to perfect it all on paper. From my previous projects which involved filtering air and general airflow, I learned quickly that building off of only initial plans was a mistake. For some of my stuff, I went through up to 50 small revisions until I had a final product I liked.

also, apparently i'm doing shrooms next weekend. i know this aint the hallucinogens topic...but if anyone has any tips or anything, lemme know...PM'ing me is good.

 

though i'm not too worried...my friends and i are huge believers of doing sh*t like this right and without hazard...we've taken the neccessary precautions, done the research, and it should be a blast.

Very nice. About a year ago I went halfers with a buddy of mine on a super blunt. We unrolled it from a cone so that it was just a normal wrap, ended up taking an ounce and a half of schwag to fill the entire thing. I can't ever remember being that high before, or after.

 

sh*tty to, I've decided to quit smoking cigs, unfortunately around the time that I've no buds either. Been one hell of a task, and I seriously never believed anyone when they said you get tons of energy after ditching nicotine. It's only been a day, but wow, I feel great!

Yeah, I think a carbon scrubbing solution would be the best idea, because it's pretty cheap from fish stores. An interesting way I think you could handle filtering it in such a way that it passes through the carbon, is to actually build the scrubber into the exhaust, instead of putting the exhaust in the scrubber. The problem with big scrubbers with exhaust hoses sticking in them, is that the air just passes all around certain parts of the carbon. If you stuck some kind of wad of carbon into an exhaust tube, it would work much better. I think they make certain irrigation filters for sprinklers that would work fairly well in this application. Your glass tube idea seems like it should work fine too, but if you just want to make you know, a cheap prototype to establish principle of design, most of the sh*t you need can be found at a fish store. Like, a pet store, not one where you buy fish to eat.

 

The fans and automatic switches sound pretty complex. I think trying to build shorter distances, or perhaps passive airflow from say the vaporizer to the chamber, would work better than a fan, because with a fan it's going to be very difficult to control the pressure differences with the exhaust valve, and its fan will inevitably start spinning if not isolated somewhere.

 

However, if you do something like reduce the air pressure in the chamber, and include a simple valve on the hose, you can wait for the vapor to be ready, and hit the valve, and have the cambers difference in air pressure do all the work. It wouldn't be hard to do that on the other end of things at the end of it, because the same way you can reduce the pressure in the chamber by just inhaling or exhaling yourself, it should be possible to just blow the rest out through the carbon scrubber. Of course having some kind of pump design to do it for you is equally possible, and at the same store as you can get the carbon filter, just get little fish air pumps. That way you're using the pneumatics of those, instead of the really unpredictable nature of the fans.

 

It's just something to think about. I think overall working with the pneumatics of the pumps would be easier and be a nicer finished product in the end. Fans are noisy for one thing, and the electronics of them are annoying. You could probably build some kind of hand priming pump and avoid electronics all-together, or like I said, just use the power of breathing.

 

 

And while it might not seem like it addresses the issues of servos, I think it would, because if the valves are passively relying on the pressure to open and close, then any rise and fall in pressure should do that automatically. You may be thinking, "Well, the valves on the way from the intake and the outtake need to operate automatically," but that shouldn't be too hard to address either. You can get pressure-sensitive valves, that open at a certain level of pressure upon them, and then snap back into place. I don't really recall what they're called, but they're meant to be put onto the pump hoses in fish tanks to prevent back flow. That might be difficult to find any that go at the right pressure though, so putting those servos on a timer might still be the best thing there, but servos are expensive.

 

 

Anyway, it sounds like a pretty fun project.
