The Cardinals simply clicked at the right time, which is weird since they had been playing together for so long. Their OFFENSE is what makes them good, and other than last season's playoffs, their defense is terrible. They have names on that side of the ball, solid names, but they just couldn't hold anybody under 30 points. I think if they played a team like the Giants, a HEALTHY New York Giants, they wouldn't have made it to the Super Bowl. The Cardinals are not even in the top 5 in the NFC. For god's sake, the top 4 teams could very well be the entire NFC East, then have the Panthers round out the top 5.

I understand what you're saying. You're saying that as a fan you have an obligation to put your team in the Super Bowl each season. You don't. I said it before, don't let your "fan hood" cloud your judgment and make you come across as an ignorant, naive, prick. If you can't do that, then I don't know what to do.

I'm a fan of my team, the Miami Dolphins, but I don't even predict the team winning the AFC East this season. I think that last year wasn't so much of a fluke, but I think they only won games because they were the surprise team. I'm being realistic, and you should too. The Texans have a solid group of players, but they lack a solid, consistent quarterback, trustworthy offensive line, and they have sub-par defensive backs. Like I just said, it's all about being realistic.

Yeah man, the Cards kicked ass right when they needed to, I was really pulling for them in the SB.

It is about being realistic, I know, but they really did a lot of things to help them out in the Defense area.

I was really just trying to go, "woot yeah, Houston will do good", but then I decided to add SB at the end, mehh.

Then you ganged up on me, so I felt obligated to show the reasons why they might do good, and then after that, I just got F*cking stupid.

Also, Gta3rockstar, I said Wildcard OR Afc South, either one, take your pick, more likely the Wildcard.

Even though Tony Dungy retired and the other dudes, from Indy, they are still gonna win a lot because those other dudes are still like consultants or some crap, and, of course, Manning.

Also, Houston would have been, with the same record 8-8, the NFC east champs.

So who knows, maybe THEY would have been the Cardinals of last year.

Historically the texans have done good late in the season, so if we can AT LEAST get to the playoffs, then we will have a chance.

Also Gta3R*, by rushing I meant offense, Cards were 32nd in rushing with 1,178, one guy on our team had more rushing than that.

I am still sorry, I am psyched for my team, and I really do believe we have a chance this year, so long as Haynesworths loss effects the Titans worse than they thought. colgate.gif

Hmm, whatever, I ruined my rep on sports................ugh. I am normally a lvl headed person, but oh well, you guys will never believe it.

the raiders are a f*cking joke.

granted, their backfield will likely be the sh*t to play with on madden, but they're never going to put it all together in real life. and in a paper thin West, as well. that's some severe insult to injury.

I have them at 5-11, maybe they beat Jacksonville twice not just once and maybe Buffalo, so IMO your still under 500.

Aight, believe what you want, like I said earlier, my Texans are the people who can change your thoughts.

I don't know why you say Buffalo will do better than us, they have a below average offense, and and average defense.

I know what you are going to say, "They have T.O", dude T.O. is old, and guess what, he will probably destroy the team by the middle of the year. Andre Johnson is ten times better than T.O., the only reason T.O. has good stats is because he has always had good QB's throwing to him(maybe not Romo).

This year we will have a top 10 Offense, and an average defense, at least way better than what we had last year.

Right now I am just trying to tell you we won't do 5-11 or 4-12, because our defense has only gotten better, and you think they will do worse?

It just doesn't make sense, if a team has gotten better, how can they do worse?

I think you are all VERY delusional, and know NOTHING about this team, about the many playmakers we have on this team.

We had as many Pro-Bowlers on are team as the Arizona Cardinals(we shoulda had 4), and one of them was on defense, if that doesn't show how excellent we are, than you have absolutely no idea what this team is, and will be.

So, they won't go 13-3 or some crazy number, but the won't get worse.

Says the person who thought they played Oakland twice.

And I look at every team, so I do know about the team. And they're not nearly as good as you think. icon13.gif

Look its still June months away from Game 1. So how do you know that all your key players will be fit, some may be injured etc. Before you jump the gun even moreso than you have done already wait at least till a couple of weeks before and see how your team is then. Look nobody here is saying your wrong we just dont agree with you, because in all honesty im sick of coming in here and seeing what you think the Texans will do. Wait a while before you start bigging up the Texans so much like you already have.

Oh and to answer your question how can a team get better etc... if all the teams around you get better than you, then you become worse, just ask the Lions.

high five, man. the bears are going to quit underachieving and really open some eyes this season. if they beat oregon on the road, handle their capable non-cons, and overtake the "weakest" usc team in recent memory, they might even get some BCS love in the national title rankings.

every single one of them. ever since cal imploded after losing at oregon state, started that five game skid a few years ago, and finished the season unranked, the national media has written them off a always an almost ran against usc, and usually behind oregon (but never oregon state, which is weird, because the beavers ALWAYS represent, season in, season out).

this is the year. if they can average even 150-200 yards a game passing with a score or two in the air, nothing spectacular, then theyre going to be a top 8 team. believe it. they just need enough so that defenses don't completly crowd the box and make defenses give best a little bit of room to run. if that happens, and they can handle UO and USC, the pac-10 crown is finally coming back to berkeley.

They need to do the playoff table like the NBA.

Are you kidding me? The NBA's playoff format is horrible, we've gone over this before in this forum. Every year you get a couple of below .500 teams in the playoffs with the eight team format they have, and it's just ridiculous. If the NFL wants to fix it they should go back to the three division/three wildcard format they used to have, that way it'd be pretty much impossible for 8-8 teams to get in.

What's wrong with the best 6 teams going?

It would be completely better. San Diego wouldn't have been in the playoffs and New England would be. Then Philly would've been a higher seed than the Cardinals. Totally soudns better to me. icon14.gif

My bad, thought you were talking about switching to an eight team format like the NBA. To be honest I don't mind the current system, eight and eight teams making the playoffs only happens ever five or ten years, so it's not that big of an issue I think.

ive been a die hard cal fan since i learned how to play ball, even through those lean 1-11 years during the late nineties.

and i support the niners, which makes it my geographical perogative to f*ck with raider fans.

but, yeah, i think that this will be the year that cal puts it together and finally nab that BCS game. unfortunately, the pac-10 commish has recently swatted down the idea of dropping the round robin (and letting the teams schedule another non-con, which would usually mean another win).

it's bullsh*t. just because the pac-10 has to play each other, it makes it impossible for all of the conference teams to make it to more bowl games. the SEC and Big 12 get to play their patsies, and pad an extra win to get to better bowls, whereas teams like arizona and stanford, perennial also-rans, usually have to settle on 5 wins instead of that guaranteed 6th victory.

it's lame. it basically boils down to making it impossible for two pac-10 teams to go to bcs bowl games (because the other sec-like schools get to use that extra slam dunk win to solidify their cases).

You're delusional. After USC, the Pac 10 is a wasteland. Beating Oregon won't matter because in the big picture, Oregon is a nobody. With only one out of conference game (Marlyand), Cal's only shot at really making a name for themselves this season is by beating USC, which I doubt will happen.

I still say the SEC is the only conference that matters.

I still say the SEC is the only conference that matters.

oh, you SEC heads, it's so fun shattering your little preconceptions how the world of college football works.

let me preface this post by agreeing with you, to an extent. the SEC is the best conference in college football. they have the heaviest hitters (florida, georgia, lsu, and usually auburn) in the ncaas. i've got no disrespect to the caliber of teams that field the SEC.

HOWEVER

i DO have beef with the type of teams that the SEC plays. for starters, SEC homers love to talk sh*t about west coast ball, yet they never have the stones to routinely travel past west of the mississippi to put up or shut up.

oh wait....they do sometimes play one and ones...

-like the time that cal throttled a UT team in berkeley, or the time that the same UT team got handled at ucla.

sure, sure, that's just one team, and perhaps its not completely representational of your conference at large (and i give the vols plenty of credit for actually making the trip to the pacific time zone to play a game), but why aren't other SEC teams playing pac 10 teams? isn't the SEC supposed to be soooooo dominant?

hold on, i'll field your talking points for you.

"b-b-b-b-ut our conference is so hard as it is! we can't play other teams which we may lose!"

you're right. the SEC conference slate is brutal. it would be foolish to schedule any other noncon games that aren't slam dunks. i mean, an SEC can finish with a paltry 3 conference wins, kick the sh*t out of 3 cupcake a&ms (usually at home, mind you), and hit that magic mark to become bowl eligible, which usually is the barometer for a conference's strength at the end of the season.

so, yeah, i don't fault SEC teams for not playing teams that aren't named akron, ball state, or charleston southern, but i can still call them pussies.

yet, i'm digressing from the point at hand...

i'm not surprised that you didn't do your homework and realize that cal plays THREE non-cons, and all from BCS conferences. i'm not trying to lie, the cal opponents are likely middle tier teams (purdue, minnesota, maybe maryland), but they are from big time conferences, unlike the schools from the "Pantywaist-Best" that SEC teams like to schedule and slaughter.

"b-b-b-but oregon! they're garbage! i don't even know where eugene is on a map! they can't be any good!"

just so you know, that "nobody" oregon team finished 10th in the polls last season and will likely start off the year as a top 20 teams. AND they start off the season actually playing somebody (boise state AT boise state, purdue, and Utah). hey, remember when the Utes beat the sh*t out of your conference's mighty alabama crimson tide last season in their bowl game? for that matter, look at oregon state. they get no national love EVERY SINGLE SEASON, yet routinely finish as a top 15, top 20 team, EVERY SINGLE SEASON.

speaking of bowl games...the pac-10 went 5-0 in theirs. how'd your conference do?

"6-2! that's f*cking awesome! we're the sh*t!"

yes. 6-2 is quite a feather to stick in your cap. congrats. and if the pac-10 didn't have to do a round robin (thus making it impossible for us to field eight 6-win teams) then maybe the pac-10 could've gone 8-0 in their bowl games.

oh, yeah, i almost forgot. cal looks like they're for real this season. i'm sure that you've written berkeley off since they got schooled in knox valley 3 seasons ago (there you go with that non-travelling-anywhere bit again!), but try to keep up with the times, sport. cal returns 10 starters on defense, with a disruptive defensive line, several young talented linebackers ready to make their bones, and one of the best and deepest secondaries in the nation.

oh, yeah, and we've got a little dude named jahvid best. don't worry. he's garbage. you'll never hear about him this season. ever. *

in summary, i'm not surprised that you think that USC is the only team that matters in the pac-10. i mean, if i never ventured outside of my backyard to see any other team than the ones in alabama, georgia, and louisianna, maybe my point of view would be pretty narrow as well. don't worry, you don't need to come to the west coast to prove yourself. you're the SEC! best college football in the land! sit on your asses and keep patting yourselves on the back!

edit: yeah, i saw you, dude. nothing more contribute? thought as much.

So I take it you are from the Bay?

You ever go to any Games? Cal games.

from the bay, but i'm out of the area for the time being.

however, i have been to a couple of cal games.

- i saw them play nebraska in 97(?), back when the cornhuskers were a very big deal, and cal was a 2-3 win team. it was a good game, though. cal's defense was one of the best in the nation, despite not being able to 10 points if you spotted them three FGs. they kept it close, and it was within 7 in the 4th before nebraska pulled away.

- i've seen them beat asu sometime in the late nineties, and watched them net a double overtime victory when ucla came to town.

- i was in the house when they beat USC in 03. that sh*t was RAUCOUS.

-and, i watched them piss away their rose bowl hopes in 06 when they lost to arizona in tucson. the fans were hilarious.

---Quarters 1-3---

zona fan: pfffft. goddamn, arizona is f*cking terrible. they should really pull tuitama. he's garbage. i think i want to go. you want to go? let's go and get a sandwich somewhere else.

---4th Quarter---

zona fan: WOOOOOOO!!!!!!! ZONA FOR LIFE! WILLIE FOR PRESIDENT! SUCK ON THAT BERKELEY!!!!!

needless to say, it was a long walk back to the car.

but i haven't made it to any games since. i really want to go, though. as sh*tty as memorial stadium is, i always have a blast at cal games.

Pac 10 babble

I'm not an SEC homer for one, hell if I had to pick one team to say I avidly cheer for, then it'd be Maryland. Being from VA, I'm more an ACC guy, but, like you said, there's no doubt that the SEC is the best conference in the country, by far.

UT team is certainly not the cream of the crop in the SEC. Put Cal/UCLA up against Georgia, Bama, Florida, or even Auburn, and you'd have a totally different story.

As for the scheduling thing, you made the argument for me. There's no reason for an SEC team to schedule a tough non conference game when they play in the toughest conference in the country. It's not like your Cal bears are loading themselves up with tough non conference games either. Looking at their schedule, the only non-cons they have are Maryland, Eastern Washington, and at Minnesota. Why don't they ever come across this side of the Mississippi and play some SEC teams? Pussies. See what I did there?

Even with the very tough conference schedule, most SEC teams don't reserve non-con games for schools from the MAC. Looking at Georgia's schedule, their non-cons are Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Tennessee Tech and Georgia Tech. The only one of those game that you could call a farce would be the Tennessee Tech. You want to brag about the conferences Cal is playing? Well, Georgia is playing your precious Pac 10, Big 12, and ACC. I guess the Pac 10 will get to demonstrate their superiority when ASU marches into Athens and gets a foot parked firmly in their collective asses. Furthermore, LSU has a game against Washington. Suddenly the whole "SEC is afraid to play Pac 10 teams" thing isn't holding water.

Oregon is garbage. I don't care where they were in the rankings, they got their asses stomped (44-10) by the only team in the Pac 10 that matters, USC. They spent last year beating up on middle of the pack teams in their conference. The Pac 10 is like the Big 12 of the west coast, a bunch of sorry teams playing each other and crying about not getting recognition for it.

Boat about your bowl game record all you want, the SEC had more wins in bowl games last season than you guys had teams. Round robin, blah blah blah.

I haven't written Cal off because they "got schooled in knox valley 3 seasons ago." I've written them off because they're in the Pac 10. Talk to me again when you guys beat USC.

I'll leave you with this, the all-time record in games between Pac 10 and Sec teams is 59-37-5 in favor of the SEC.

SEC ignorance

-well, i guess we'll never see because those schools refuse to play anybody other than other conference's weak sisters. should lsu get an award for playing washington? that's like cal saying "oh, well, we're playing vandy (pre-2008) here and there." whoopty-sh*t. what does that prove? in fact, it seems that SEC schools, by large, are scared of playing real pac-10 powers because it will deflate their argument. actually, ever since usc beat the sh*t out of arkansas, the sec hasn't tried to come on over, save for the times when ucla/cal beat up on UT. i give credit to georgia, because ASU looked legit two seasons ago, though.

also, oregon state would've beaten LSU in baton rouge a few years ago, if not for a missed pat at the end of the game. still, since their a pac-10 school, they're f*cking trash, right?

oh, and good for georgia. yet, one school does not a conference make. check those other "powerhouse" schools that the SEC schedules:

florida: charleston southern, troy, FIU (all home games)

auburn: la tech, ball state, west virginia (all home game)

alabama: FIU, north texas, ball state (all home games)

lsu: tulane, louisianna-layfayette, louisianna tech (all home games) and @ washington (who just set a 2008 for not winning a single game).

so, bulldogs aside, way to get out there and show the world that you'll play anybody, anywhere, SEC.

you're missing my point about the noncons. those are three guaranteed victories, because they're at home. even if those teams stumble in the SEC, they'll still go bowling. i'm not totally faulting the SEC for this, per se. this is the way that the rest of the major conferences work. they schedule patsies, they get their wins, they pad their records and they go to better bowl games because of it. if anything, i'm lamenting the pac-10 for "taking the high ground" and putting themselves at a disadvantage.

but a fact is a fact. other than the 1 and 1's with UT, washington, and Georgia, can you name an SEC in the last 10 years that ventured west of the mississsippi to play an away non-con game? take your time.

furthermore, i'm not even an oregon fan, but i give credit where credit is due. just because one school gets smashed by another doesn't make them "garbage" in fact, even though it will likely never happen, unless in a BCS game, i'd warrant that last year's USC team would embarrassed the top tiers SEC schools, even Florida. unfortunately, we didn't get to see that dream matchup between USC/Georgia last season.

clearly, your "blah blahing" about the round robin and how the SEC fielded 8 bowl teams indicates that you have no f*cking idea how to count. look at the "marginal" SEC teams:

south carolina: 4-4 (7-5)

vandy: 4-4 (6-6)

kentucky:2-6 (6-6)

and even:

lsu: 3-5 (7-5)

that's a lotta in conferences losses, you know it? wouldn't it be nice to be able to schedule easy wins, pad records, and go bowling in december. if the SEC had to play everyone else (which, i know, is impossible), you wouldn't see 8 teams bowling. I'd say 4 or 5.

oh, and let me leave you with this little tidbit:

Since we're talking current affairs, since 2000, the Pac-10 is 10-8 over the SEC. and if we remove the two powerhouses of the conferences (USC and LSU), the pac 10 is 6-3.

let that sink in.

not counting LSU/USC, the pac-10 is 6-3 vs. the SEC

lsu sure can represent. how bout the rest of the schools?

AND, just to further poke holes in your little factoid, i'd like to know how many of those all-time games were played home/away. i'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the SEC hosted the lion's share of those games.

Well, in the NFC its more common, more-so 9-7 teams.

EDIT - IM SETTING UP THE LEAGUE NOW!

I swore this was an NFL Discussion topic... sarcasm.gif

@Rocky: I might not play in the Fantasy Football league this year. Yahoo pisses me off now, I can't stand having to pay for live updates while other sites like ESPN and NFL.com give automatic updates for free.

Yea I would go there but more so, people have a yahoo account already. Plus they usually have a bonus before the year starts to get the stattracker free. icon14.gif

It's aight with me, it is one year for 620,000, he is more likely going to be a TC body, or some kind of 3rd string QB.

I mean he may suckish, but this time he actually has some good weapons to throw to, instead of the great receiving corps of DA BEARS. biggrin.gif
