gta_player5 172
Brett Favre seeks release from Packers. Now with video! Yeah, I know Rocky posted a link from Fox Sports, but NFL Network usually has video with their articles, major topics at least. I didn't expect this to tell you the truth. I expected him to still be playing with the Packers if he returned. Now there's speculation that he could go to any number of teams if he's released or traded. There's speculation that the Redskins might want to go after him, the Bears or the Vikings as well. However, I doubt he'll go to Chicago or Minnesota if he is traded because they're in the same division as Green Bay. I, along with many people in the media, am getting tired of speaking about Brett Favre. It's like this every offseason for the past five years, expect this season it's worse because when he actually retired, he didn't mean it and he wants to come back! Ugh, I just want training camp to start so I can see how everything is going with my Miami Dolphins.
8ballsoffire 0
i really didn't expect this from Favre and his timing has really complicated things. i don't see the packers taking him back as the starter, i think they're set on Rogers and will have already started tuning the offence around him. If he does return and it's not for the packers i can't see him going to chicago or minnesota, not in a million years. i think the strongest possibility is the ravens, their quarterback situation is far from stable and i think having a guy like Favre playing for a season would help out the young QBs they have. Personally i would love it if my jets made a move for him, I don't see Pennington or Clemens as superbowl material right now and with Faneca on the O-line it would give Favre great opportunities to be set loose. to be honest though i don't see him having a good year this year. no matter how good a player he is it still takes time to get used to your team mates and get into a decent rhythm, by the time he gets a deal sorted he'll have missed OTAs and mini-camp, maybe even missing the start of training camp, he'll need to learn the system and the players very quickly. Hodgey. 2,034
Well well Favre. What are you doing, this all comes back to him making his decision to soon after the season. Yey hes a great player and probably the best QB ever, but why do this to a team that have served you well for the past 16 seasons. He must of known that as soon as hes said that he was retiring that the Packers were gonna move on with Rodgers as there starter. And now he wants to move teams, which is the best decision hes made so the Packs can definetly move on. I think Miami would be a good fit position wise, Favre against Beck no contest, plus Parcells likes to work with veteran QB's. Edited July 12, 2008 by Hodgey1989
Bartleby 1,824
It's not very likely Favre's, to say the least, fickle nature will tarnish his legacy, but goddamnit, I am so sick of this. Of course, the media always have a frenzy over it and they analyze the facts ad nauseum. Make a decision and stay with it, Bret, jesus. Quit f*cking over the Packers. Though I was surprised he actually "retired" after this season, considering this time they actually got to the Playoffs, and even the NFC Championship. I just really wish he would quit creating so much drama.
GTA3Rockstar 3,017
He made drama last year and then he made it to the NFC Playoffs so he probably thinks if he does it again he can make it further. They should make a contract to where it kind of tickle's his belly or something to get him back for the troubles he gave them.

gta_player5 172
I think Miami would be a good fit position wise, Favre against Beck no contest, pluys Parells likes to work with veteran QB's. No. Yes, Parcells likes veteran quarterbacks, like Testaverde and Bledsoe, but this team is rebuilding for the future. The team isn't retooling to win for now. That's why they drafted Chad Henne and that's why they got all of these solid, consistent players and not those blockbuster players who were on the free agent market. Brett Favre would probably do well but I wouldn't want him on the Dolphins, why? Because of what I just said about rebuilding, and another thing that affects rebuilding is salary, his remaining contract is 3 years - $39 million, no team is going to want to trade for that unless they really need a quarterback, or can afford to pay him that kind of money. With that said, I don't see him going to Minnesota or Chicago or the New York Jets. The Jets are also trying to rebuild. The Jets rebuilt that entire offensive line, save right tackle, and probably want to see how Pennington and Clemens will do behind it. I think that there will be a lot less pressure on them this season though if the running game can actually get going for them. Baltimore, I thought the same thing but I don't know. They have a lot of young quarterbacks on that team and speculation is that Troy Smith is the current favorite to win that job. The Ravens have never had a good quarterback to be honest. Trent Dilfer was just a role player, Steve McNair was old, Kyle Boller was is just bad, though he didn't have much to work with. So we'll have to see what they do, but I think they're going to stick with the young players and find out who is their quarterback for the future. The Redskins are getting all of the speculation on whether or not they will pick up Favre. Daniel Snyder apparently has never shied away from paying the big free agents money so we'll have to see what happens. I think it could be a good fit there, but I'm just not sure. Jason Campbell has done pretty well for what he's had, an injured Clinton Portis, and an under performing Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El. I have no idea what's going to happen, all speculation. 8ballsoffire 0
I wouldn't like to see him going to the redskins, Jason Campbell didn't have a terrible season last year and with the additions they made on offence in the draft i think he could do better this year. I don't know about Portis' injury so i can't say how good he'll play next year but even with an injury I'd put him in the top 15 rushers in the league. the only positive role i can see Favre playing in Washington is as a veteran mentor to some of the younger players, and i don't think that's quite what he's looking for. Apparently the Packers are willing to keep Favre in an "undefined role", i.e. they don't know what the f*ck they're going to do.

gta_player5 172
I really think that the registration for Pick 'Em leagues should start when the registration for Fantasy Football starts because by that time the schedules have been released for months. There's really no sense to wait longer to register for the league when everybody (NFL teams) knows who they're going to be playing during the regular season.

gta_player5 172
BREAKING NEWS: Giants to Trade Shockey The Giants and Saints have agreed to a trade in principle that will send tight end Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans for second- and fifth-round picks in 2009, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. AND Dolphins Trade 99 Dolphins Trade Defensive End, Jason Taylor, to Redskins for 2nd & 6th round picks. Most of you probably don't care about the Taylor trade, but I'm a huge Miami Dolphin fan so I care about that trade, obviously. This article by Andy Cohen sums up my feelings about that trade. I really don't have much to say. I wanted to see Taylor playing for Miami this season and I thought it would happen since no teams were calling with trade offers. Then the Redskins lose a defensive end and offer the Dolphins what they wanted for Taylor during the draft day rumors. It was what the front office wanted and it was what Taylor wanted, to go to a playoff team, so both sides can be happy. Fan can be happy as well because they got fair value but it's just going to be weird not seeing number 99 wreaking havoc on the opposing offensive line.

8ballsoffire 0
i take my eye off the nfl news page for a day and we get two trades, urlacher signing a deal and the packers putting Favre in the shop window (although i could do with a break from hearing Favre bitch about how bad he's been treated for just one day). if there's still places in the fantasy league i wouldn't mind taking one. Mainland Marauder 87
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/sto...50&sportCat=nfl The Packers have charged the Vikings with tampering over their supposedly talking to Brett Favre. Any other Pack fans out there? What do you think of all this? I think it's best for the franchise in the long run to move on, but the team has a better shot of contending this year with Favre. Without, I'm happy to see 8-8 in '08.

gta_player5 172
Denver Broncos leading receiver retires It could have been seen, definitely. Rod Smith was undrafted and he put up numbers for years. He's been solid and consistent almost every season of his career becoming the leading receiver in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns in Broncos history. Though he is one of the best, if not the best, in Broncos history I don't know if he's a Hall of Fame receiver. Good career, but not a great career. Either way he's been a very good player and I wish him the best. More news out of Broncos camp. Thirty year old linebacker, Ian Gold, decides to retire as well. Stating that he would like to go into business while he still has his health and his youth. He also stated that unlike Brett Favre, he will not decide to come back to the game. Gold was also a very solid linebacker, always posting good numbers and he was a definite mainstay in the Bronco defense.
Mainland Marauder 87
Congratulations to Rod Smith for an excellent career. He's an inspiration for those small-college guys and undrafted players who shouldn't give up prematurely.

Mainland Marauder 87
Rod Smith: Hall of Fame? It does bring up that the Broncos tend to not get a lot of love in the Hall - if Rod Smith made it, he'd be only the second lifetime Bronco after John Elway in Canton.
