PATT3N
Very good point, I guess you develop Niko the way you envision him if you want him to be a hard ass you ignore the woman but I guess relationships add the human element to Niko's persona. To be fair I complain about the woman in GTA but it was me that spent an hour on LoveMeet.net applying to every ad! I'm about to start my second playthrough after achieving 100% and I cannot wait to step off the boat as a fresh face and experience Liberty City through Niko's eyes again. 28RedEyedCrows
PATT3N: That's funny what you said about LoveMee.net! I did that too. There were a couple of gals on their that looked like real 'hotties' but you couldn't date them. I started a second playthrough as well, though I don't know if I will ever sit and do the entire thing again. It was kind of cool though, because in the beginning, there is always dialog that you missed, or understand more than the first time. I will also suggest that if you replay it, turn the subtitles on if you haven't, because Niko and Roman (among others) say a lot in their native language that is translated by the subtitles. It's a cool feature. Add: Tony: Seeing as to what you, PATT3N and some others would like, as well what I like, I think they should give you the option to just hang out or to do missions/jobs together, but make sure that both heighten your friendship levels. It makes sense as you might be saving one of their lives in some cases.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Remember Vice city where you bought that property at the north end of the second island, and the helicopter spawned on the roof? I think all the safehouses you buy should give you something unique, such as vehicles, weapons, facilities etc, something to give buying properties a purpose. I also think they should cost a realistic amount of money

But yes you should be rewarded for the work you do. 200 pigeons and nothing? that really ticked me off. 100% and nothing? that ticked me off even more. But you remember the old stadium missions where you did the obstacle courses and destruction derbies. when you had completed these you got the unique vehicles, and could still partake afterwards. i miss getting rewards. It makes you wanna play, drives you and gives you an incentive.
28RedEyedCrows
Right. Same as when we were talking about having each of your recruits/friends offer something unique, similar to what they did here in IV with Jacob's gun trunk to Roman's driver, except that it would be something they could offer you more when doing a job for you, running a business or taking them on a mission. Add: Rockstar has been lacking in rewards in 'Manhunt 2' and now 'GTA IV'. Hope it's not a trend and only a hiccup.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
Yeah it is one of the old standards of video games that must be maintained. I didn't go hunting 200 pigeons for the pleasure of doing it.. believe me i didn't find it fun, i expect something back. You should maybe be able to unlock new abilities too, you know like the ability to dis-arm people in IV except something useful, like a new grab move here and there or longer sprint endurance. SantiagoDomingo
I want to be able to upgrade everything I do too. I like the idea of your character actually progressing and becoming more efficient at what he does. Like sprinting endurance, weapon skills, fighting skills, driving skills, etc . . . I agree with things like endurance, and possibly strength and fighting, but as far as driving and shooting goes, i like the way it works naturally. It would be somewhat irksome to have a perfect headshot lined up, only to miss because your player doesn't match your own skills
28RedEyedCrows
Of course this is just another one of those things that basically WAS in GTA and has been removed; Probably partly for realism. Realism is great, but let's make sure the world feels truly 'real' and alive before we start limiting things like extended sprint endurance or other similar things like you guys mentioned. Fighting skills and such should be there. It really would make sense, but I am sure they were trying to also give Niko a certain feel throughout the whole game, making sure he didn't look like superman by the end (which is true, that wouldn't have been cool story wise). For Niko in particular, I think giving him more fighting options to start with would have been good (he IS ex-military) but let's not be too hard on them in this case as all of the fighting, shooting, etc. is brand new again, and generally looks good. It should be other features/missions/things to do we worry more about, you know? There can always be other things to unlock, such as different clothes, weapons, vehicles, games, etc. etc. I am sure there are lots more things they can do now with IV as far as that goes. I mean, you could maybe earn a new phone that allows you to play music while your walking (earbuds included), or maybe after drinking so much 'Sprunk' or eating too much 'Bleeder Burgers' could earn you a Burger Shot or Sprunk T-shirt. You could even make it part of the game like, on the radio... Announcer: "Swallow our Sprunk and earn Sprunk points! Get cool items such as a Sprunk T-shirt, Sprunk baseball cap or even bright green, glow-in-the-dark Sprunk high-tops to scare the living hell out of your neighbors when you run through their backyard at night! Look on the side of our vending machines for more details!" or Announcer: "Do you like taking lots of meat? Well, show everyone how much you love our meat by putting on a Burger Shot hoodie! You can purchase one at any of our local restaurants after getting 10 bloody bleeder burger tickets! Receive one with every bloody bleeder burger you cram in your mouth! We even have other hot items like, watches, ring tones that moo, and even an exclusive single by O.G. Loc! You heard us! Now get in their and let our servers feed it to you!" Hey, I had to take a shot at GTA comedy.

It has to be better than that. Kill 50 hobos by pushing them into a barrel of fire, thus burning them to death. Then another could be start a flaming hobo chain reaction, 1 flaming hobo careens into another who careens into another, if you can get a chain of 10 hobos than you can pick any color you want for the gloves. Tony Mozzarelli 80
Haha @ SD. I would also like a little more fluidity with the climbing mechanics. You should be able to run up small walls like in Assassin's Creed. Not suggesting you should be able to scale buildings but just a little more fluidity thn we have currently. 28RedEyedCrows
I think being able to grab the small ledges of windows and things like that, anything that you might be able to scale in real life. Sometimes I find myself wanting to just climb up the side of small buildings to check out the roof and can't, because a particular item wasn't made to be climbable. Right, shouldn't be a ninja, and a guy similar to Niko shouldn't be able to run up one, but scaling somehow should be possible. Hanging and crawling along ropes and beams should also be possible. R4ZM4TH3R
I like that idea, maybe also you could be able to jump on top of them french windows to that arch out or are they called bay windows? Either way I like that idea
Tony Mozzarelli 80
I wasn't saying he should be a Ninja. It's perfectly reasonable to be able to run up a small wall. Niko can climb them anyway, i'm just suggesting he be able to do so much quicker
subtalvik
Something that really got me disapointed was that, in the vigilante missions, shooting at the gang members/criminals actually got you a wanted level! That's stupid! The cops are completely unaware of whether what you're doing is good or bad. If you see a cop getting attacked by/chasing a criminal, and you try helping by punching the guy down or shooting his leg then you get a wanted star and the cop tries to arrest you! The cops are also unaware of who started a fight, you don't get wanted for pushing someone on the ground, but the person you pushed down will start punching you, a cop will run up and arrest him or the guy will suddenly turn into a criminal and start shooting cops, or the cop will shoot him. Yeah i see what you mean, but the police do not appreciate that much vigilance. If you pulled out a gun in real life and started joining in with a police shootout you would be in a world of trouble. 28RedEyedCrows
About the police: Joining the police has been a common theme/desire on this thread for exactly the reason you're talking about, subtalvik. The times that what Tony mentioned, about the cops not liking you being a vigilante, looks really stupid is when you are in those gang shootouts and the cops pull up trying to compete with the bad guys' firepower. It's so sad. The cops just get mowed down, and if you try and help them, they don't want any of it. They need to fix this someway, like, when something violent is happening to the cops and you're shooting at the people shooting at them, maybe the cops would work with you, but then try to arrest you with a one star level after the shootout. That way they don't kill the guy who just saved their a$$, and bring you in as standard procedure. I also believe that the police shouldn't be firing at you on a 2 star wanted level unless you're either waving your gun around or attacking them. It always seems silly when you break away from them and they start shooting, even if you're unarmed. It'd be much cooler for them to keep up with you (which they do well) and then try and tackle you to the ground. One more thing that is just a tip for you: you CAN help the police with those random chases you see by just pushing into the guy with your body (running into him) as opposed to using the strike button. Don't hit any buttons, just ram into him and knock him over and the cop chasing him may even thank you. I discovered this by accident when I was just standing there and the criminal smashed right into me and fell down. I think you can do it with your car as well, but that's really tricky as hitting him too hard will piss off the cops. I also think you can do the same thing to the officer, push him over, and the criminal will be happy and continue to run off.
Tony Mozzarelli 80
I agree they should tackle you to the floor and instigate a bit of a punch up. This was one thing i loved about The Warriors, the feeling of tension while being chased

Thanks for continuing to chime in on this topic as well. I am glad you guys just said you want to keep this board maxed, cause I have a question for you. I just sat here this whole time I wasn't posting and wrote out this huge set of ideas for police, but yeah, it's really long, so instead of smashing everyone with it, I was just going to ask whether or not you want me to just lay the whole thing down or seperate it? (I made it nice, it's all numbered) I think you guys are used to me and my huge posts, but still. Even though this topic has done so well, I'm still not a veteran of forums by any means, so, what you guys think is important.
