Rhoda
Today, it was revealed that the title of Slipknot's fourth album will be "All Hope Is Gone", and is due for release on August 26 2008. A track from the album also titled "All Hope Is Gone" is expected to be available for download from Roadrunner Records' website on the 20th June, and is quoted as to being "a heavier track from the album". I personally cannot wait for this effort, I've been waiting for new Slipknot material for 4 years and this sounds like just what the doctor ordered. From what I've read in interviews with the band and on sites like Blabbermouth, this album is going to be one heavy motherf*cker. Anyone else looking forward to it, or simply a Slipknot fan? Moonshield
Heavy as in some sh*tty suffocation rip-off, yeah. I got a listen of one of the new songs. Yuck. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/357886-slipknot/#findComment-1058265963 Share on other sites

Scarface187
Heavy as in some sh*tty suffocation rip-off, yeah. I got a listen of one of the new songs. Yuck. Don't tell me they're going to start going down the Job for a Cowboy route too. Way to make a sh*tty band worse. Digital Murders
You shouldn't have even made this thread. Nothing good is going to come from this. Anyway, I'm buying it. Do Nothing/Bitchslap ftw. Vanillainy
I don't like Slipknot much, only a few songs I ever really listen to. (Duality wins) I'll end up getting it, not expecting much though. Moonshield
You shouldn't have even made this thread. Nothing good is going to come from this. Anyway, I'm buying it. Do Nothing/Bitchslap ftw. Well to be fair, I did listen to one of the new songs before I wrote it off, but I really did nothing for me. The drums drowned out the guitars (not that that's a bad thing), the guitars themselves were down tuned 2 steps, but that didn't really make them sound any bassier or fuller - it seemed like they were too muted or muffled, for lack of a better word, even for playing atonal riffs. It's heavy, sure, but it just sounds like "Slipknot tries to do NYDM", and it doesn't sound pretty. If you want a listen here you go. Rhoda
I've got hold of All Hope Is Gone (the song) and I've given it a few listens. I have to say I'm pleased with it, though nothing really stands out like Subliminal did from Iowa, not at the moment anyway, it just sounds heavier. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic song but I want something new and I'd hate for AHIG to fall down Iowa's trap. Flesh-n-Bone
Slipknot are great. They are wearing masks, that makes them cool. Rhoda
Going to give this a bump because the album's out next Monday (25th August) and I wondered if anyone was actually looking forward to it other than those that have already voiced their opinion on the band. Sixdust
I got a leaked copy, listening to it now before I judge. Here's the first single Psychosocial Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/357886-slipknot/#findComment-1058472933 Share on other sites
Slamman
Everyone USED to know, you don't play METAL with a Fender Telecaster! Can you say TWANG?? My good friend Earl Root coined a phrase long ago (RIP) "Iowelder", and I have to say, I like the sound of it. Gabriel Constantin
They're bearable. Just. My girlfriend likes them, but I certainly wouldn't call myself a "fan." Though the newest single is pretty catchy. There's one thing to take into consideration with Slipknot: Do you really think they'd be this big if it wasn't for the mask gimmick? Rhoda
I agree; they wouldn't be such a big deal without the masks, but I've found myself falling in love with them for music, not for masks. Their new album is not their best, I'll always consider their first effort the best but this album is fantastic. And Slamman, that had nothing to do with Slipknot or their album. Sorry dude. Apart from the guitar used in the video. Listen to the album and come back. GodfatherITB
I don't really care much for their first and second CDs. A couple songs from them I like, but I can never listen all the way through. Their third CD, though, I like. I'll be getting All Hope Is Gone, I just hope they stick to the way they did Vol. 3. Apart from the guitar used in the video. Listen to the album and come back. I'm referring to Earl Root's years as a guitarist, and his band Disturbed (the back story to that comment), he and his band toured the Tri-State area, if you will and in Iowa there was a rather wild night where that term came about. You do know they hail from the Midwest, USA, or not???? Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/357886-slipknot/#findComment-1058473630 Share on other sites
GodfatherITB
I just listened to the CD. I thought it was good, but I'll have to give it another listen because I was playing CoD4 and talking with friends at the same time, so I didn't get the most out of it. Starion
I got a leaked copy, listening to it now before I judge. Here's the first single Psychosocial Does anyone else think that the main riff sounds a bit similar to Metallica: Orion ? I'm not comparing them or anything, but I can hear the similarities in the riff. Hart
@Starion, haha yeah it does, although I prefer Metallicas obviously. Has a better sound to it and is slightly slower. Slightly more OT: I used to like Slipknot when I was a bit younger, some of their newer stuff is ok, but not as good as before. Lazzo
More of the same. No offense. They're very accessible. The positive side: they introduce kids into the genre. One must hope they don't stay in this "introductory" stage for very long. Hart
Actually Starion, it sounds like a heavier, quicker version of Orion. 0:58 it starts. Does sound similar when you put the two together, just faster: Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/357886-slipknot/#findComment-1058476101 Share on other sites
supernova_goes_pop
i'm getting it. i've already reserved a copy of the special edition. i've been listening to more "mellow" music the past few weeks, but slipknot is always welcome. except for the "mate.feed.kill.repeat." demo. no, it isn't an album. that anders guy was so bad. i'm glad corey joined cause theres no way i could tolerate anymore "pentex sucks, pentex sucks" bullsh*t. Digital Murders
I just listened to the single, and no matter what, making the small "wee/woo" noises in the song doesn't make you anymore metal. I'm sick of every band doing this. Except Gojira, they do it well. But, disregarding that, I think the song is good. I'll still be buying this. Rhoda
My special edition version came today despite me having a leak and listening to it religiously since last week and I love it. No, it's not their best, but it's very f*cking good regardless. It's hard to get into, not as easy to just pick up and listen like previous releases. Still, good job Slipknot, now make another. brz59
I've heard the tracks "Psychosocial" and "All hope is Gone" from that new album and I have to say, that the former one is too "Pop-influenced", though quite good, but the latter one is simply crap. I have all of their albums, incl. M.F.K.R. and I used to really like them, but eventually I got tired of their music. Though I think I'll give their new album a try, might like it. TheTank
Still, good job Slipknot, now make another. I thought this was their last album? Have I missed something I'm gonna go and buy this next week. I've actually heard all the songs, tho'... All Hope Is Gone and Psychosocial were actually the only songs I liked, this wasn't as heavy album as they promised it'll be. TheTank goes and searches for 'Iowa' and 'SlipKnoT' to patch the wounds and soften the agony this album left in him Edited August 26, 2008 by TheTank Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/357886-slipknot/#findComment-1058490628 Share on other sites
Rhoda
Gave it another listen today on the bus and realised it's better after a few listens. Good albums shouldn't work that way, they should hit you instantly, but this is one that grows on you for sure. Choice tracks for me are Vendetta, Gehenna and This Cold Black. brz59
Ok, I got the album, listened to all the songs and I have to say, that it's their best album to date. It feels/sounds more mature and doesn't have that nu-metal feel, that their previous albums have. I guess it's mainly because of the guitar solos. However, it did hit me instantly, when I listened it for a first time. Before I said, that the song "All Hope is Gone" is crap. I have to retract that statement, because it did fit very well into that album and if you listen to all these songs together (the whole album, that is), it sounds much better. Though it isn't their heaviest track on that album in my opinion, the heaviest one would go to "Gematria (The Killing Name)". Oh, yeah, "Gehenna" sounded too much like Korn, not that it's a bad thing, I like Korn (though, I have listened to Korn for so much, that I've got tired of it), but that creepy feel and distinctive singing at the beginning reminded me of Korn's early work.
